About the property

Two-bedroom two-bath home with a great view of the Placencia Lagoon.

Across the Placencia Road from the Caribbean Sea, waiting for you on the shores of the Placencia Lagoon is this modern two-bedroom two-bath vacation home known as Casa Laguna Vista. It offers a splendid view of the Maya Mountains, the Placencia Lagoon and, across the road, the Caribbean.

Located on the Placencia Peninsula at Mile Marker 14 in the Plantation Subdivision, this home puts you in the middle of all the things you want to do when you vacation in Belize. Take a 15 minute trip to the Placencia Village and its famous sidewalk or dine at one of the many restaurants along the way. Several dive shops and tour operators in the village offer snorkling and diving trips to the Barrier Reef or Laughing Bird Caye.

Or you can arrange a jungle tour to the Jaguar Preserve (or drive yourself). The tour operators will pick you up at the house so you can enjoy the view of the lagoon and the Maya Mountains while you wait for your native guide. Other activities could include a drive up the very scenic Hummingbird Highway, which winds its way through the Maya Mountains, to Belmopan, the capitol of Belize, for lunch; or you could skip lunch and have a cup of Belizean Coffee and a cinnamon roll at Kropf's Mennonite Bakery, which is located somewhere near the midpoint of the drive up the mountains.

Other trips could include a trip to Red Bank and a two hour trek through the jungle to the nesting grounds of the Scarlet McCaws, an endangered species of very colorful parrots native to Belize and Guatemala. This is a difficult trip to organize and not all guides can take you there, but its a magnificent sight if you can get there.

Or, if all else fails, just sleep in and let the noisy ChaChaLaca birds wake you up in the mornings and just stay at the casa and enjoy the view. The Casa is air-conditioned and fully equipped with two televisions, cable TV channels, a washer and dryer, and a WiFi network for your laptop.

A great place to relax

My husband and I love to rent a place instead of stay in hotels. We booked this property after lots of research into the Country of Belize, as well as different locals and properties. The Casa Laguna home is situated on the beach facing the lagoon. The home is well equipped with anything you need to cook modest meal, the beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms are spacious. Our only problem was the wi-fi wasn't working and it took 3 days to figure out the problem and get someone in to fix it. (We purposely didn't use a Belize cell phone thinking we would be able to stay in contact using wi-fi calling or messaging.) This home is about 2 miles from the town of Maya Beach which has one of the best restaurants we've ever eaten at. It is an easy 10 miles into Placencia Village to get a dose of beach combing and beach bar/music. David was very helpful in explaining the driving conditions, driving directions, recommendations for restaraunts, when to gas up the vehicle, and sights to see along the road to Casa Laguna. He went the extra mile to help us make our trip worthwhile. Staying at a house versus the many resorts is not for everyone. If you don't mind planning and driving to your sightseeing excursion, and enjoy having the option to cook your own food once in awhile, then this is the place for you. We would recommend this house to anyone wishing to explore the southern part of Belize.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed it. My apologies about the WiFi system. Since you were there we've replaced some of the equipment and employed a new computer guru from Placencia Village.

Great House in a Quiet Location!

Casa Luna Vista was a wonderfully updated house is a in a great location. It had a well-equipped kitchen, very nice furnishings, comfortable beds, great AC throughout, a large deck off the lagoon side, and a peaceful pier to try one's hand at fishing or just relaxing. We preferred not being right in the middle of Placencia Village, as it gets over-crowed, so this location was perfect. Being just a short drive into the village, it allowed us opportunities to eat at some great spots. We would recommend eating at Maya Beach Bistro, as it was the best dinner we had during our 17 day stay in the country. We will miss it!!! Also, we loved the pizza at The Galley in Placencia Village. They have the best this crust pizza we have ever eaten anywhere, and we visited there multiple times during our stay at Casa Luna Vista. Also, John the Baker-man, located in a very primitive looking building just down the sidewalk across from Omar's Restaurant, has the best cinnamon bread! We actually visited there during the day and had the opportunity to step inside and see he and another gentleman preparing the bread and grating fresh nutmeg on top of the cinnamon; who does that anymore!!! We went back later to get our fresh hot bread, and we couldn't wait to get home, so we tore some off in the car, and it was amazing. What a special memory! Thank you, John the Baker-man. Overall, our stay at Casa Luna Vista was great, and you will enjoy the home.

A Marvelous Week!

  • 5 of 5

Our week-long stay at Casa Laguna Vista was marvelous as was our time in the wonderful little country of Belize. We totally enjoyed the lovely house with all of its amenities. Everything was as advertised. The home is "like new" and very well appointed. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the kitchen very much. The front and back porches were much used. We definitely plan to return to Belize and again make Casa Laguna Vista our base for sightseeing.

Wonderful 30 days!

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our month long stay at Casa Laguna! A very well built home with modern facilities. The washer/dryer was a must and we cooked most of our meals there. We rented a golf cart from Roberts Grove, as the location was 9 miles from the village of Placencia. We explored the entire peninsula and enjoyed an occasional meal at Maya Bistro, Singing Sands, Green Parrot and Mangos. Loved all of them! Ever, from Sandhills Ltd picked us up from the airport and was a great help during our stay! We especially enjoyed the deck facing the lagoon, with the beautiful view of the mountains! We borrowed two plastic chairs and used them on the dock and tried some fishing off of the private dock, but no nibbles. If a kayak would have been included, we would have been kayaking every day, but managed to rent one for a day from Singing Sands. Very enjoyable! We brought our iPad and the service was spotty at times. We tried it in the guest bedroom, but service seemed non existent later in the day and evening. The mornings were much better for service. We kept in touch with our children by using it at the Bistro and in Placencia, so it wasn't an issue. There is quite a bit of construction going on north and south of the property, so the trucks and busy traffic starts at 6 a.m. and runs all day. Everybody seems to watch out for the carts, bikes, walkers, so we always felt safe when we ventured out every day. The grocery store was very handy also. We never encountered problems with insects like was mentioned in an earlier post, nor was the bathtub stopper an issue! Of course, the good ole sand flies are always interesting. I would advise putting on Skin so Soft first thing in a.m. Every day. They don't seem to like oily skin! All in all, we so appreciated our home away from home for a month, especially since the article cold was wrecking havoc back home! You'd better "Belize" we will be back! Thank you to the Texas owners for your wonderful home!
