Great secluded villa close to town

  • 5 of 5

Our group had six adults that stayed for nine days and La Libelula met or exceeded the expectations of all of us. We have rented from VRBO since the early 2000's and this was the most accomadating of any we have stayed at. We were looking for a secluded place that wasn't too far of drive to town. It's difficult for pictures to demonstrate a setting but it is very private with a gated entrance that cannot be seen from the house. The house has three choices of dinning for a large group; inside overlooking the pool and ocean, outside under a covered porch with the same view, or in the cabana (we had all our meals here).

Darlene and Lecho are the care/grounds takers. They are overly friendly and do a wonderful job of balancing being available and not being intrusive. Darlene will cook dinner for your group for a very reasonable fee (we had her cook three dinners and we enjoyed having local food). Each night that we came back ofter sunset the outside lights would be on for us and the house was tidied up. Steve was our contact with the management company and he arranged our four bookings for sports fishing, atv, cano island snorkle and zip lining. All was wonderful and just as planned.

On the property we witnessed lots of wildlife such as toucans and whiteface monkeys. You could hear the howler monkeys every morning but we didn't see them. Needless to say we really enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to book La Libelula again.

La Libelula is truly paradise. We just completed a nine day stay with our family of seven and were incredibly sad to leave. Another family of four joined us for five days and the house accommodated the large group very comfortably. The house is very well designed, providing lots of inside and outside space to spread out. The outdoor space is designed in such a way that even torrential downpours didn't chase us inside. Kudos to the architect.

When selecting our vacation rental, I was very tuned into reviews with mention of monkey sightings. This was really important to me and I was not disappointed. We really lucked out and a troop of howler monkeys slept in the trees immediately adjoining our patio. We couldn't begin to count the number of monkeys we saw every morning and evening after about the fourth day. They could have been there all along but we didn't know how to spot them. They woke us every morning and put us to bed every night. Two days capuchin monkeys visited us. They are so cute and as interested in us as we were in them. And the birds, oh my. Hundreds of beautiful birds were in the trees all day long. Toucans, parrots, tanagers, just to name a few, were always in the tree that canopied the intimate little deck jutting into the forest. I could sit and watch them for hours.

The caretakers, Licho and Darlene, are wonderful. They are very helpful yet never intrusive. The house and property were cleaned everyday and Darlene even did some of our laundry! Our friend's car slid off the road right outside the gate to the house and Licho found someone to pull them out. It was reassuring to have them close by.

Steven, with YouGetHere, organized an ATV tour, zip lining and a fishing trip for our group. All were delightful and a great time was had by all.

I guess you can't visit the rainforest and not mention the bugs. Ants are everywhere. We brought boxes baggies and were glad we did. The kitchen, although very well equipped, did not have any plastic containers with lids. Next time I'll bring along a few packages. Other than the ants, we had almost no issue with bugs. I was worried about the mosquitos but neither me or my husband got a bite and we never had to use insect repellent.

I could go on and on about La Libelula. It is perfect and I can't wait to return. Even if it's just my husband and me traveling next time, I wouldn't consider staying anyplace else.

Amazing trip!

  • 5 of 5

We were in Costa Rica for 11 days and stayed at La Libelula for 1 week. It was WONDERFUL!! Exactly like the photos but better due to the smells( Ylang ylang tree in yard) and sounds of the monkeys and toucans. We did not see any monkeys but heard them in the distance, and did see a sloth ( we were glad we brought binoculars for a better view) and toucans came nearby every evening.

It was VERY hot while we were there( not sure but high 90s and maybe over 100 F one day) and the pool was even warm, but we were so thankful for the cold whirlpool. SO REFRESHING!

Licho and Darlene were very kind and were very patient with our basic Spanish speaking skills. Darlene cooked a delicious dinner ( she has a menu and we just gave her the money to buy the groceries plus cooking) for us one night. Licho would cut fresh coconuts for us to drink the coconut milk.

The property manager Neil was always prompt with his communication. We did not see him once he brought us to the house, but did not need him as we had enough information and set up most of our adventures through Stephen ( recommended by Neil)

We were a group of 9, ( 2 families with 5 adult children) and did adventures every other day. We flew into San Jose and stayed there for 3 nights then drove down to Uvita- an easy drive on good road, just not many signs. Four wheel drive is a must to get up the road to the house. We felt very safe. In San Jose we arranged a rafting trip down the Pacuare river which was awesome! We also went canyoning in Uvita, ( excellent) and took a catamaran tour out of Quepos and saw dolphins and snorkeled. We also had 2 massage therapists come into the home which was also great!

The beaches were uncrowded and fantastic esp Playa Hermosa. It is nice the house provides boogie boards. Pool is fantastic and even has pool floats and toys. Excellent lawn chairs and hammocks!

The only thing I suggested they consider is the plastic mattress protectors are hot and noisy, but I understand why they use them. They just may need to buy higher quality ones..

Everything about this trip was fantastic and we can't wait to go back!

Perfect in every way!!!

  • 5 of 5

We went to La Libelulia for a "family vacation"--so we were looking for a place safe enough for a 2 year old, exciting enough for our adult children and relaxing enough for us--- AND this villa hit a home run on all counts. It was exactly what we had expected and hoped for. The villa is gorgeous with lots of "out door" living space-- we had breakfast in one outdoor location, cocktails in another and dinner in the grass covered Tiki area!!! We swam, watched birds and monkey's, relaxed among the flowers and tropical plants..... what is not to love about that! The villa is a good 3 hour drive from the airport but well worth it even with a 2 year old-- not much tourist stuff going on here... just fabulous fresh fish and fruit, lovely people, beaches everywhere, and adventure if you want it. Our adult children loved scuba diving at Cano Island, jumping off waterfalls, kayaking thru caves and surf kayaking-- and i enjoyed kayaking in the mangroves, taking nature walks in the national parks and swimming and walking on the beautiful beaches. There is something for everyone there. Dinner was cooked for us on our night of arrival which was delicious and a treat-- after that we cooked ourselves as that is what we love to do together! I think the managers of this property have thought of everything-- and we hope to go back there in the future!!! It is a bit remote and the roads are a bit rugged (4WD definitely necessary)... and speaking some Spanish is definitely helpful-- but it was amazing-- really felt like we had our own little piece of paradise for a week!!!

Fantastic location for a group getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our group consisted of 4 couples, no children.

The design of the house was perfect for us as it basically has 4 master suites upstairs, with few differences, mostly in the bathroom layouts and one room having large bunk beds. We drew numbers out of a cup for room selection. All have AC and were very comfortable.

There were a few sporadic power outages, but you have to expect that in a place as rugged and remote as it is.

Beautiful and clean house, beautiful grounds, and fantastic views.

The staff is super helpful and friendly. One of our regrets is we never had an opportunity to use the dinner services with how our activity schedule ran.

You are close enough to town to where it isn't a chore to make a trip to the grocery store, liquor store, or bank, but you need a rental car for those conveniences. There are great beaches just a few minutes away by car, too.

The kitchen is spacious and great for group cooking, and we enjoyed that immensely at breakfast everyday.

We usually did an activity in the daytime, had an early dinner, then came back and relaxed in the pool (which is amazing!) with some homemade pina coladas. (Dos Pinos vanilla ice cream is insanely good)

Highlight activities for us were the ATV tour in Uvita (bring a bandana for the dust!), sailfishing out of Quepos (we ate grouper for several days), and ziplining in Puerto Cortes (Osa Canopy Tour).

We flew into San Jose and rented cars there for a drive down. We managed to get stuck in traffic from a nasty traffic accident and were very late in arriving. Even though it was technically after hours, they freely accommodated our late arrival. It was just bad luck on our part, but I think we'll be more open to taking commuter flights next adventure as the drive itself wasn't as scenic as we were hoping.

Everyone in our group agreed that they would come back to La Libelula in a heartbeat, so I can't think of higher praise than that.

The house was exactly what I had expected and hoped for. A paradise on a hill with great sunsets and comforts.

The manager made sure we knew where all of the local places were that we might want to visit. Groceries, pharmacy, restaurants and adventues.

I won't lie, cried a bit when it was time to leave.

A car is definitely needed. Either rental or there are taxis in the area.

September & October are the best months to see the huge humpback whales off the coast of Uvita. These whales migrate from thousands of miles away and come each year to the beautiful coastline of Costa Rica to mate and to give birth to their off spring. These huge gentle giants of the Ocean can be seen normally in groups or a mother with her off spring and they are apparently unconcerned being accompanied by the whale watchers boat. They can give spectacular shows of swimming agility by breaching, fin and tail slapping, lop tailing or simply blowing great plumes of air and water when then exhale up to 40 meter of height.
