About Jim & Ann O'Connor

We are retired PA educators who grew up in York, PA. We are both graduates of York Catholic High School. Jim did his undergrad at Indiana State University and Ann did hers at York College. Together we have 53 years of teaching experience.

Ann was first introduced to Chincoteague by her father over thirty-five years ago. As many say, it was love at first sight. During our summer vacations there, we would dream about owning a place of our own.

After putting three sons through college, we made the leap and bought Sweet Retreat. We enjoyed every moment we could spend there. It was our happy place.

In the summer of 2016, we sold our permanent residence and became full time Islanders.

Jim & Ann O'Connor purchased this house in 2008

Sweet Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This delightful 3-bedroom, 2-bath home is located on the quiet end of Main Street, surrounded by canals, ponds, marsh grasses, and abundant wildlife. The house is well-appointed. Everything you need is already there, except for personal items (sheets, towels, and toiletries). Sip coffee on the front sun deck or the screened back porch. Build a fire in the fire pit and eat at the picnic table, or dine in the kitchen nook or the full dining room. The property has ample parking and is convenient to everything in town. The landlords are fully cooperative and totally nonintrusive. We couldn't have picked a better vacation home, and we couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more. Jim & Sue

Not allowing me to write beyond this line.

The home was perfect! Immaculate, cozy, a front and back sunroom, completely equipped and very quiet. Vacation couldn't be better. We will be back. So much to do - bike riding is a must. The bike rentals right before you hit the path are so reasonable and they were very helpful. Weather was wonderful - beach side one day, bay the next. A stop at NASA Visitor Center on the way down. I can't say enough good things about this mini vacation! Oh - don't miss Sandy Pony donuts.

There is nothing negative to say about our stay at Sweet retreat. I couldn't even make up something. House was clean, well supplied. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. We can't wait to go back.

Adorable cottage

  • 5 of 5

Spent 8 days at Sweet Retreat and it was perfect - close to town but a nice rural setting with marsh across the street and behind, with White herons for neighbors. Would highly recommend it!

A great stay!

  • 4 of 5

Sweet Retreat was about a mile from town, which was perfect. It was very quiet there with a nice view of the marshes and a pond occupied by critters that were fun to watch and photograph. I was there 5 nights and I never left the island, as everything was right there. The house was lovely, very clean and organized. The only thing was that the beds were not so comfortable, which was disappointing. Other than that I had a memorable stay.
