About Mr and Mrs Robson
Hi, I'm Sheila. This lovely cottage has been in our family for over four decades. Over the years we've restored it, keeping as much of its historic character as possible, but adding in more modern features for comfort and convenience. This was our family home for many years, our children grew up in it and loved it, then it became more of a weekend retreat. Now the children have grown up and moved away, and we can't spend as much time as we'd really like to in the cottage ourselves. But my younger daughter said - you can't sell it, we've too much emotional investment in the cottage! So for the last 13 years we've been letting it for holiday lets, so other people could enjoy it too. We have a local person to look after it for us. Many of our guests come back several times, and some want to stay for a long time.
Mr and Mrs Robson purchased this Cottage in 1977
Why Mr and Mrs Robson chose Chipping Norton
Well, we've said it all really. When we arrive after not being there for a while, a wonderful feeling of peace and calm comes over us, we can forget about the cares of the world. And reading through our visitors book, it's clear that many of our guests experience that too. It's a real 200+ year old cottage, with lots of charm, and roses and camellias around the door. You will be woken up not by the noise of traffic, but by the birds, or by the gentle lowing of cows in the nearby field. On summer Sundays, bell-ringers from other places often come to ring the church bells. But we've got broadband, the local towns are bustling, and there are so many attractions around that you'll never get bored.

Charming Cottage in the Cotswolds
We loved our visit at this property and can't wait for our next visit. What a great place to experience the beautiful English countryside.
We are so happy that you enjoyed it, and will be very happy to see you come back.
Excellent location, fully equipped cottage, lovely garden.
Thank you. We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay. You'd be welcome to return any time.
Fabulous place - we'll definitely book again. So peaceful. So well equipped.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful cottage. Lovely and cosy, comfortable, full of character, but with all the mod cons we expect nowadays. Beautifully maintained and well-equipped. We also had amazing weather for February! We sat in the garden for some of our meals – just unbelievable. Great walks over to Hook Norton (among other places) where we ate lunch and drank Hooky beer in the Sun Inn. A lovely week in a quiet relaxing part of the world – just what we needed for our short break – shame it wasn’t longer. We’ll be back!
Thank you! We're glad you enjoyed it so much, and we'll be happy to see you again at Blue Row.
Pleasant quiet cottage compromised by kerosene odour
With character charm, a verdant garden and situated in a quiet village, this property promises so much. Unfortunately, our experience of staying here for a week in September 2018 means for us we cannot recommend it.
The property’s main drawback was the kerosene fuelled hydronic heating system. The boiler is housed inside and emits kerosene vapours into the laundry cupboard where it is located. These vapours permeate the entire cottage with the rooms adjacent to the boiler most affected. When the boiler is operating, the cottage is unpleasant to occupy due to this kerosene odour.
The owners are aware of the issue. While they were responsive to our concerns, the odour devices they provided to assist with the smell did not resolve the underlying issue to our satisfaction.
Lows: Kerosene odour, washing machine not functioning properly, clutter, no clothes drying rack
Highs: Garden, charming cottage, space for a family: lounge, kitchen/dining plus three bedrooms and two bathrooms and separate laundry, great wifi
We are very disappointed that you chose to give us such a negative review, as we bent over backwards to try and help you with a problem you admitted might be partly due to your family having very sensitive noses. The guests before and after you have had no complaints at all about oil smells. At a personal visit from the owner we assumed any issue was resolved to your satisfaction through the use of electric heating as an alternative. The system is not a kerosene system. Following your visit engineers have been in and confirmed there is no problem.
The washing machine was working perfectly at the time of your arrival.
I can't speak for your view of clutter, most people like the charm of the little cottage artefacts around. The photos represent this.
There is a drying rack, in the cupboard that houses the boiler, shame you didn't find it, or ask about this.
I hope any future guests will read all the other reviews as well.
Beautiful cottage in a charming vllage
Four of us had planned to walk the first 50 miles of Shakespeare's Way (a 150-mile track followed by Shakespeare from Stratford-upon-Avon to The Globe Theatre in London), from Stratford to Woodstock.
Blue Row Cottage in Swerford was the ideal location at the half-way point of the 50-mile stretch, which we walked in four one-day segments.
This charming cottage is extremely well appointed and, with its two bathrooms, was just what we two couples needed to refresh ourselves after our day's exertions.
The weather was fine and we were able to eat some of our meals - and drink our coffees - in the beautiful sheltered garden.
There are wonderful views of the church and the remains of the ancient motte and bailey castle from the upstairs windows.
Stratford, Chipping Norton and Woodstock (for Blenheim Palace) are all within a short drive and there are many good places to eat nearby in the surrounding countryside.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay and may return some time to enjoy a little rest and relaxation at the cottage, rather than walking all day for four days.
Many thanks for an enjoyable experience.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay, and found the cottage a relaxing place to come 'home' to! You'll be welcome to come back.
A great historic cottage located in a tiny Cotswolds village only 6 miles from Chipping Norton. This cottage oozes character with tasteful period decor making it feel very welcoming and is fully equipped with everything you may need including WiFi. Peaceful and off the beaten track this is an ideal location from which to explore the Cotswolds towns as well as Oxford, Blenheim Palace, Warwick Castle, Stratford etc. The only negative was a very poor mobile phone signal. Highly recommended.
Thank you for your positive review. Yes, the phone signal does depend a bit on supplier, and where in the house or garden you use the phone, but a lot of guests can pick up via the WiFi. However it doesn't seem to have spoiled your holiday, and thank you for recommending us.
There is so much to see and do in this beautiful area: the charming scenery of the Cotswolds, changing at every turn in the road; Medieval castles, Saxon churches, Roman remains, mysterious Neolithic sites; picturesque market towns, many National Trust properties, too many stately homes with beautiful gardens to list individually, attractions for children, footpaths to walk, and wonderful pubs with real ale brewed locally. Blenheim Palace and Stratford upon Avon are within easy reach, together with other attractive Cotswold villages. If you stay a week, you'll wish it was two! Swerford is a quiet and unspoiled village around a church and village green, built out of picturesque Cotswold stone and Stonesfield slate, when the only disturbance is the occasional group of bell-ringers who come to ring the church bells in summer. There are village shops within a short drive in the next village. Our own web site (www.bluerow.com) has information about the numerous attractions & activities nearby.
Other Activities: Sightseeing, visiting stately homes
