About the property

2BR 1BA (Sleeps 4-6) Home Like New, But With That 'Old West' Charm

This cozy and romantic cottage offers a great location on a quiet country road and is conveniently situated between two major entrances of the beautiful and majestic Yosemite National Park. The Merced River is only minutes away, and leads the way on the 35 mile scenic drive from this home to the Arch Rock Entrance. The alternate route to the park, approximately a 45 mile drive, will take you past the Mariposa Groves where you'll see the Giant Sequoias, the Badger Pass Ski Area, and other attractions. It's an easy day trip to make through one entrance, taking in scenes and points of interest through the park, out the other entrance, and back home with plenty of time to still enjoy a home cooked meal.

There is a full kitchen that boasts all of the modern conveniences of home. You'll find everything you need to prepare that perfect meal for the family reunion or the romantic getaway. The bedrooms have comfortable beds with luxury linens supplied. Each room offers the comfort of a ceiling fan. The home is equipped with forced heating and air and there's an electric fireplace for romantic ambiance. There is, of course, free WiFi and antenna TV and a huge soaking tub with a separate shower in the new bathroom.

The huge wraparound porch is awesome. It's a great place relax and enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast or a glass of wine while watching the deer meander by.

There is plenty to see and do in the area, and the quaint historic town of Mariposa serves as a perfect host to the traveling adventurist. There is a wonderful visitors' center that features information that is sure to fulfill all of the curious inquiries of the most adventurous travelers. Mariposa is rich in history and is home to the oldest courthouse still in operation west of the Mississippi. The California State Mining Museum is only a few miles away from this house and boasts some of the most impressive mining treasures ever found in the state of California. Take a short ride to the historic town of Mariposa, where you'll find museums, fine dining, antique shops, and other attractions. Mariposa features a wonderful grocery store that has fresh seafood, sushi, fine wines, fresh produce, and all the fixings to prepare a great meal.

Bring your kayak and go for a whitewater adventure in beautiful Yosemite. Or, take a guided tour with one of the many adventure guides such as Zephyr Whitewater Expeditions. Their launchsite is a scenic drive only 45 minutes up the road along the Merced River Valley Canyon, on Route 140. For more information, call 800-431-3636, and ask about the Merced River whitewater tours.

Yosemite Zipline Adventures is another fun thing to take advantage of, right in our town of Mariposa. They're located about 5 miles away in the other direction on HW 140. For more information, call 209-742-4844.

Rafts are available to rent in the Park during summer months. Bicycles are for rent at a great price. There are many great ways to experience Yosemite, and the town of Mariposa is a great place to start from! This home will serve as a great base for your vacation adventure.

We hope you'll agree that our location and the amenities that we offer will enable you to experience the beauty of Yosemite, the comforts of home, and the adventure of a lifetime that you and your family will enjoy and remember for a lifetime. Our affordable rates can make it happen.

About Sherry Nohava

My husband, Tom, and I have been married for 37 years. We have two grown sons and two granddaughters; one from each son. One of our sons lives in Arizona, where we live most of the time. The other son lives with his growing family in Newport Beach, CA. I am a retired communications technician with AT&T, and Tom is a retired general contractor.

Sherry Nohava purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Sherry Nohava chose California

We have always loved the Yosemite area and we fell in love with the setting of this property. When I was working in Pleasanton, CA, we found this property and immediately began putting a lot of TLC into it. We are proud to offer it as a vacation rental. We are hoping others will appreciate the country ambiance and peacefulness as much as we do.

What makes this cottage unique

It's a great house with a wrap around porch, two entrances into the front, and a doorway to the porch from each bedroom. Snowcapped mountains surround this home's little valley, creating a gorgeous landscape in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The layout is great for enjoying the outdoors and allowing the country air to circulate through. The central heating and air add an extra element of comfort to the comfortable furnishings. The covered porch is almost as big as the inside of the house. It's a great place to hang out and listen to the rain, read a book, or to watch the wildlife.

A lovely, peaceful place

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at your cabin. It is well equipped and very comfortable, but its main attraction is the wonderfully peaceful setting. I hadn't experienced such quiet for a long time. It was a fantastic experience. We watched a beautiful sunset a short walk from the cabin and enjoyed the stars and the moon every night.

Enjoyed our stay

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the quiet, peaceful setting. The cabin was very comfortable and clean, with modern amenities. We cooked our meals and the kitchen had everything we needed. Sherry was a very gracious hostess. We went over to Yosemite 3 days and the drive was about 35 minutes, but quite pretty.

Mariposa house near Yosemite .

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at your rental. Everything there was comfortable and well stocked. The quiet area and the wildlife were also enjoyable. Mariposa was a quaint small town with some restaurants and a mining museum in town. The ride to Yosemite took about an hour and was awesome. We also drove to Bass Lake which was about 45 minutes away. The whole vacation was breathtaking.

Charming and nice setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a one night stay in this old but well-maintained house. This house stands bright among all other properties in that area. The first look itself is awesome, but Sherry, the owner will not disappoint you. The feeling gets better when you get inside the house. They have done a great job in re-modeling and maintaing this property. Sherry is very friendly and accomodated all our requests. She was great to work with. The only regret is that wish we had a another night to enjoy the place.

Fantastic Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures of this cabin do not do it justice. I honestly didn't expect it to be as nice as it is given the dirt cheap rental price - boy was I wrong. It's a lot roomier than I expected with a large modern kitchen, upgraded bathroom and it slept 6 of us with plenty of room to spare. It was also very clean with plenty of very nice linens, dishes, silverware, pots/pans and storage containers. When we arrived in the late afternoon, there were dear and wild turkeys roaming around the very large yard. We were able to watch them from the back of the house on the wraparound porch. We visited Yosemite, which is about 45-60 minutes away but you hardly notice how long it takes while watching the beautiful scenery along the way. As soon as we booked the cabin, we received an email from the owner, Sherry, containing a lot of information on the property, where to shop for food and supplies, best way to get to Yosemite and who to contact in case we needed help with anything. Don't let the low price fool you - this is a fantastic rental property with friendly and attentive owners that go above and beyond to make you feel welcome.
