4 Bedroom, 4 Bath, 4000sqft 50 ft from Bay with Beach access & Boat/fishing Dock

This years scallop season was put on the bench. Conditions look favorable for next year though. Hal the charter captain on site reports a good trout and redfish season. After our near brush with tropical storm Hermine everything has returned to normal for living in paradise. Beach restoration should be starting sometime this winter and hopefully be finished or near finished by spring. ( Before I get carried away if you want to book with me send me an email first as I don't keep the calendar updated online. ) Last year Ryan and his group won the crown of Scalloping King. He and his group gathered 170 gallons of scallops and were even selective throwing out scallops of insufficient size to harvest later. He donated a quart bag to the author and they taste like fried butter. Enough said. They were goooood!!!!! Another group came equipped with several small tools made from 3/4" electrical conduit. They proceeded to harvest any stingrays in site. This is where the tool comes in. It was used to punch out the meat from the back of the stingray. They fried the round stingray meat up with the skin on and after cooking the skin fell away from the meat. If I was eating stingray mixed in with some store bought scallops I would not have known the difference. This was plain good eating and much easier than collecting scallops. So if you like spears, gigs, harpoons and fishing arrows stingrays are a fun target to go for and they aren't regulated. These critters compete for the scallops anyhow. The next best kept secret to stingray is shark. Besides the stingray it is the cleanest fish to catch and clean. Personally I go out with a hack saw. I hold it by the tail belly up off the side of the boat and cut the body in half just behind the anus. This tail section is all meat with center cartilage. I continue cutting one - 1.5 inch steaks off the tail section and these go on ice. No messing with fillet knives, blood or guts. No need to remove the skin it falls off once cooked. Put these on the grill brushed with olive oil along with lemon and your favorite seasoning and in no time you will have a real delicacy. Even people who don't like fish would like this. Eats like a real tender pork chop. If you are taking Chondroitin for Arthritis, the shark cartilage in the shark steak is the very same thing ground up inside the Chondroitin pill that costs $25 a bottle. This year nobody came to fish off the dock but the year before 2 redfish and 10 trout were caught from the dock during a week in April and 2 sightings of eagles swooping down to pick up trout have been witnessed by guests sitting on the back porch. One report of a 6' tarpon swimming under dock occurred in May. (Note: I do not keep up with the calender so inquire about a period you are interested in.)

The home is 50 feet from the edge of the bay with a beach access park directly across the street 500 yards from the home. Inside are new furnishing including tournament quality billiard table, internet streaming for viewing netflix and other internet services on upstairs and downstairs TVs, patio furniture seating for 8 persons on the screened porch, new living area sofa, wicker recliner, and an elevated game table with four raised chairs ideal for cards and board games. Play pool, ping pong, bumper pool, basketball, bike ride, fish from the dock, play cards, board games, enjoy surround sound stereo using your Iphone connected to stereo, connect to wireless internet. The home has central heat and air and plenty of room to spread out. Most people comment on how cool the home is when they first enter. 500 yards from the home is the sugar white sands of Cape San Blas Beach. Enjoy the sunrise over the bay and watch the sunset on the beach. The stars are exceptionally bright when viewed from the back deck of the home. My favorite nightscape is the full moon rising over the bay. Linens and towels are provided as an option so send an email to book the home and arrange for the linen and towel option.

The bay is viewable from each bed in the house. A 500 ft dock is a few steps from the home. A managed pristine environment of live oaks, palms, sea oats and sago palms surround the home.

2 upstairs bedrooms have king size beds. and 2 bedrooms downstairs one with 2 double beds, a single and optional trundle. The other has the walk in shower, king bed, single bed and optional trundle for extra guests. Each bedroom has a private bathroom with shower. To see more video of the home and the surrounding area visit bobzio com.

The main floor living area has TV and DVD player. Attached to the main floor living room is a large kitchen with stove, oven, counter top oven, full size frig with ice maker, microwave, dishwasher, blender, toaster, coffee maker, pots, pans, cups silverware and cooking utensils. Off of the kitchen is a screened porch with patio table and 8 chairs. The washer and dryer are hidden away on the screened porch. Each room has cable TV and WiFi access. Bring your IPod and plug into the stereo. A large handicap accessible shower is located on the main floor. The home is unique in that there are no steps from your car into the home. The Grandparents can stay on the ground floor and not have to navigate any steps.

There is parking for 3 vehicles. Boat trailers can be parked close to the property entrance on a private paved road set aside for trailer parking.

The home is a monolithic concrete dome. The concrete adds extra protection and energy efficiency. Amenities include wifi, tv, dvd player, stereo, central heat and air conditioning. Upstairs has the entertainment area with CD stereo, Cable TV and billiard table. On the back porch overlooking the bay is a ping pong table, weight lifting bench with weights, bumper pool table and patio table with seating for 4. A propane fireplace is located on the main floor great for long winter nights.

Bring a boat or kayak for scalloping, fishing and recreation. If no boat plenty of fish can still be caught from the dock. Try throwing a cast netting for mullet from the dock. A favorite activity is spear or bow fishing for mullet as they swim under the dock. Floundering at night is an activity for those seeking some adventure. Depending on time of year an eagle or bobcat may be spotted close to the home. Want to learn to fish the bay? Captain Hal Tarpley will pick you up from the bayrock 1 dock and take you out for a day fishing or scalloping.

The Bayrock experience is serene, peaceful and private. Here birds are singing, bikes can be ridden on the 12 mile bike path, snorkeling in the bay for scallops, windsurf in the bay and shelling on the beaches.

Golf and tennis are a short 12 minute drive away at St Joe Country Club . Horseback riding on the beach starts at the beginning of the cape Road. Freshwater fishing is a 30 minute drive at Lake Wimico via depot creek or white city.

The cape bike path runs into the St Joseph State Park from the beginning of the cape road about 12 miles.

Inquire about para-sailing, waverunner and pontoon boat rental. Kayaks and bikes can be rented just a short distance away. The owner will deliver to the home for your convenience.

About the Owner

My dream was to build a futuristic indestructible earth friendly home. The dream was acted on in 1995 and completed in 1998. The home uses half the energy of a conventional home of similar size. The interior space is open and inviting. The surrounding area has been managed in a manner keeping the natural and pristine qualities in tact.

We Love Bayrock

  • 5 of 5

My kids love Bayrock 1. They love getting in the bay chasing crabs and exploring. I liked being able to sit out on the porch and not worrying about what they were up to. The home has a perfect location being just across the street from the beach. We strolled over to the beach and walked the edges looking for cool shells and enjoying the wonder surf. Cape San Blas is such a clean and natural habitat. I hope it never changes but we see new houses going up on the beach side but not so much on the Bay side. Hopefully we can come back to Bayrock in the future and enjoy the natural serenity and habitat.

Inside bayrock is nice too with oodles of room to relax. The beds are comfy. The bathrooms are spacious and I liked the living and kitchen space being combined. There is a large gaming area upstairs with billiard table, games table, computer desk, hifi and cable TV. There is also a stereo system we plugged our phones into and played our favorite music. The dome has terrific acoustics.

We had a wonderful time. Mick is a great host having the home open and waiting on us when we arrived. Everything went as smooth as butter on a warm day. Had a great time and hope to come back.

Bayrock 1 on Cape San Blas

  • 5 of 5

We thought looking at Bayrock 1 online what a cool house. My kids couldn't wait till we got there. There expectations were met when we drove down the drive and saw the outline of the home. Inside the entire house is made of concrete. It was totally indestructible. I was surprised how clean the air was inside. Mick explained it was the most effective house option for anyone with allergies. The home was clean and ready for us when we arrived. We all loved the layout of the home. There is so much space to relax in or to find a private corner somewhere away. The kids liked the dock and checking out all the ocean life in the bay. The beach is conveniently located across the street. We used our car to go back and forth but next time we will bring our bikes. We were happy renting Bayrock 1. Mick was available if we needed anything and happy to share local information with us. I can recommend renting Bayrock 1.

The Cape Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Have been going to Cape San Blas since I was a child. The beach side has changed a lot over the years. I use to stay on the beach side until I discovered how quiet and relaxing staying on the Bayside is. This is the second time we have stayed in Bayrock 1. Our group really got use out of the pool table upstairs. It was a nice addition to the home. The internet was fast compared to other places and the ability to get on Netflix was nice when we were winding down for the evening. We could all sit around and watch a movie together. This year we tried fishing but only had limited luck. Mick told us there was a red tide last winter that devastated the aquatic life and all but wiped out the scalloping season. News is the Fish and WIldlife Department reseeded the scallops in the Bay so next year is hopefully back to normal. We still enjoyed ourselves regardless. The home overall was very satisfactory. The second frig on the porch was an added convenience for our group especially since we ended up spending quite a but of time on the porch. We will continue returning to the Cape each year and likely stay at Bayrock 1 again especially if we plan on returning during Scallop Season as Bayrock 1 has the Best Location on the Cape for enjoying both the Bay and the Beach. Thanks Mick and look forward to seeing you again next year.

Owner's Response: Thanks Cathy for taking time to write a review. Let me know which week during scallop season your interested in. Inquiries start coming in earlier each year. Last year it was after Thanksgiving. Like you I am hoping for a good scallop year coming up. I missed not having any this year. Hope your drive home was a safe one. Hope to see you next year. Best Regards, Mick

Relaxing Holiday on Cape San Blas

  • 5 of 5

I am so glad for a friend's recommendation to visit Cape San Blas. In the past I had visited Panama City Beach Florida but as I get older my need for peace, quiet and less stress has become precedent in my life. A friend recommended Cape San Blas which I am so grateful for. The next best discovery after Cape San Blas was the Zen House Bayrock 1. Cape San Blas is a laid back relaxing atmosphere and Bayrock 1 is like a monastic retreat on Cape San Blas. It overlooks the serene Cape San Blas Bay. The home is full of positive energy and helps one connect with the natural surroundings. There is natural landscaping all around with birds singing in the surrounding live oak trees. I was fascinated by the small lizards that are constantly zooming around the perimeter of the home. The weather was ideal and most of our time was spent meditating on the dock and on the porches. It is so special to hear natural sounds versus man made sounds. Inside the home the upstairs is acoustically phenomenal functioning just like an amphitheater. This was a special location for our meditations. We were renewed physically, mentally and spiritually after our time on Cape San Blas and in Bayrock 1. My thanks to Mick for creating such a special retreat. I recommend anyone seeking a place to meditate and reconnect with Nature to schedule a visit to Cape San Blas and Bayrock 1.

Had a great vacation experience

  • 5 of 5

Arrived at Bayrock and Mick was there to greet us and answer any questions we had about the home and the area. The home location is ideal having the dock just steps from the home and a beach access park directly across the street. We had reservations about going to the beach and needing to use facilities but there are excellent facilities in the beach park along with picnic tables, playground, shower and covered sitting area. The weather could not have been better. The parking was convenient and secure by the home. Mick said there was no need to lock up and we felt very secure during our stay. The home is exceptionally roomy and comfortable. Inside and being all concrete makes it quite amazing. The kitchen and living area are combined which made for easy dining and fluid conversations. There is a gaming area upstairs with TV, DVD, Internet and Pool table for the younger generation. The home was clean when we arrived. The bedrooms each had attached full bathrooms which was a must for our group. The handicap accessible bathroom on the main floor was nice for older folks with knee pain. Based on the responsiveness and friendliness of Mick, the convenient location of the home and overall enjoyment of our vacation we rated the home high and we will certainly stay here again when we return to the cape.

Owner's Response: Hi Jimmy, Thanks for taking the time to write a review. I enjoyed meeting you and your extended family. I hope everything went smoothly on the ride home. Hope to see you again in the future and thanks for leaving the home in such a clean and orderly condition. Thanks for the insight in what was wrong with the dryer. Replaced the parts you spoke of and now she is working like a champ again. Yours Truly, Mick

Th e floor plan is great. O n the 3rd the dryer did not work, fridge froze everything even on lowest setting ,toaster only cooked on one side , the oven not clean, beds hard I paid extra for sheets they were dirty I had to wash them before we could go to bed. We were able to fix the dishwasher it is not secured . Rained one day and the house and the back porch leaked. the only fish we saw were tiny the water is very shallow, ants in several rooms and in one bed, spider webs also. you cannot see the beach we could see the bay through the trees and upstairs we had clear view of bay. The house has one ac vent upstairs and small window ac downstairs 3 fans provided. We had to buy 2 more fans. the ping pong and bumper pool on back porch unusable to hot the porch is glassed in.The boys enjoyed the pool table upstairs. We will never rent here again .

Owner's Response: I wish you had told me sooner about the dryer there was a simple fix available and the frig temperature could have been adjusted to suit your need. The AC was designed specifically for the house and has kept the home cool through out the summer. The home temperature can also be adjusted lower to suit your comfort level. The home does sit on the bay and the water level will vary with the tides. The water level in the bay can't be helped. The beach can be viewed from the upstairs but as stated is across Cape San Blas Rd. Thanks for informing me about the leak. This was another quick repair. The toaster has been replaced but there was a toaster oven available for use. Anytime there is a cleaning issue I will have the home recleaned to meet your standards. I just wish you would have indicated this soon after you arrived. You did want to stay an extra day which I arranged so you must not have been too dissatisfied with your stay at Bayrock 1.

From the Owner

The location of this home is the most ideal among all Cape San Blas Properties. The bay access is the deepest for boating from the dock. The beach access park is directly across the street with a large state property park that goes some 2000 feet making the beach very secluded. The water is clear and pristine with plenty of wildlife. If you want to be surrounded by natural beauty and solitude then this is the best choice and still be able to visit all the modern restaurants, stores and beaches.

Nearest Airport : Panama City or Tallahassee at 60 Miles Nearest Barpub : Cone Heads at 1 Miles Nearest Golf : St Joe Country Club at 12 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Cone Heads at 1 Miles Nearest Beach : Cape San Blas Beach at 500 Metres Car: necessary

Best location on Cape San Blas to take advantage of the Bay and the Beach. Vacationers using Bayrock can walk to the beach 500 meters, fish on the private dock, snorkel in the bay, have a boat tied to the dock, ride a bike to the stores and restaurants or enjoy the wonderful bay view from the porches. The location is private, serene and beautiful. There is not another property with the same logistical advantages.

From the Owner

Most unique benefit of vacationing at Bayrock is the serenity, abundance of birdlife and opportunity to spot an eagle, see a bobcat walk by, fish from the dock, see porpoises at the beach, catch tarpin in the bay or do nothing at all. The Cape is a sanctuary for wildlife. Oh yes the Cape Palms Park beach access park is directly across the street.
