About Barbara and Jon Robin
We traveled to Maine for the very first time in August, 2012. We drove most of the coast line from Ogunquit to Eastport and fell in love with the state. We came back in September and visited Swans Island and knew we wanted to have a home there. We bought the home in October and spent 10 days there over the Thanksgiving holiday. We travel back each spring and fall for a few months, but will let you enjoy the house in the summer and see why we fell in love with the island!
Barbara and Jon Robin purchased this House in 2012
Why Barbara and Jon Robin chose Swans Island
The location of this home with Back Cove on one side and a quiet lagoon on the other side made this the perfect choice for us. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, want to stop, listen and not hear anything, then this is the place for you. Read a book on the deck or borrow one of the books on the book case. Play board games in the evening, hike wooded trails, dig clams, watch the Lobstermen bring in their catch or sleep the day away on the deck...it's all here. Yet, you are a 30 minute ferry ride from Bass Harbor and Mt. Desert Island. It's not home away from home, it's 'relax away from home'!
What makes this House unique
The views from the house and deck make you wake up every morning and think you are in paradise! The low tides are just as pretty as the high tides! Seeing the sea gulls swoop down, pick up a clam or mussel, then fly high over the big boulders that line the shoreline and drop them to crack them open and then eat them is mesmerizing! We like to follow one bird and see where they pick their clam and then guess which boulder they will fly to, drop and eat! We chose this property over others due to the serene location and ocean views. Make sure you check out Fine Sand Beach, the Quarry swimming hole and TIMS take out - Friday night is pizza night, but order early! Goose Pond is about a mile walk…some may want to crest the ridge behind it for the view of the Atlantic and walk down to the ocean beach. Hike to Noah's Ballast and enjoy the views of Frenchboro! Check out the bold coast on High Head Beach on the east side of the island. Make the short drive to Hockamock Head Lighthouse. The views are amazing and you will want to see it at low tide and high tide to experience the crashing waves. There are several trails around the lighthouse that take you to 2 different beaches. Want to dig clams or muscles? Wait for low tide and look for the small holes in the sand! Grab a shovel and start digging!!

Stunning views, impeccable house!
The Robin House is the perfect vacation home, well maintained and clean! The kitchen is well-equipped and beautiful! The views from the deck are amazing and perfect for grilling, eating, and lounging. Our kids really loved the bunk room. The property is private yet close to the beaches and TIMS :-) We had a fun week spending time in nature...hiking, canoeing, fishing and swimming.
This was our second time staying at Robin House and we will definitely be back again. The home is simply beautiful and perfectly functional for the entire family.
The Definition of a Relaxing Vacation!
This is our second trip to the Robins House. Everything is well maintained and organized. We had everything we needed. The view and decks are just amazing. It's just so peaceful and beautiful on Swan's Island. This is my 20-year old son's favorite vacation. Also I LOVE the ferry ride. We will be back next summer!
Glad you enjoyed your stay! Look forward to hearing from you for next summer!
I can hardly wait to go back.
I could hardly get my kids to come inside to eat meals. They were always outside adventuring. The island has so many fun places to go and see. The locals are kind and helpful. The house was fully stocked with anything you might need during your stay....a big bonus for me! Add Robin House to your MUST SEE list!
Beautiful, well stocked home on amazing property
We recently returned from a wonderful week on Swan's Island where we stayed at Robin House. This is a beautiful home and Swan's Island is a really special place.
The home is large and very well equipped, in fact, the best stocked rental home I've ever been in. The kitchen was really modern and nice and had everything you would need to cook and serve a large group. There are plenty of towels, a large washing machine and dryer, extra blankets, flashlights, binoculars, and lots of games and puzzles.
The home sits on a beautiful property with waterfront access. There is a large granite boulder where you can sit and watch the water which we really enjoyed. We watched seals playing in the water, eagles, lots of birds, and a muskrat all from Allagash Rock. We also enjoyed going to Martini Point which is just a little further down the road. It's a beautiful point with large granite boulders where you can sit and watch the sunset. The decks are great and we spent lots of time sitting on the deck just enjoying the beautiful scenery.
There were lots of cool places to explore. We enjoyed stopping at TIMS (small grocery store on the island). TIMS has the basics and also serves hot lunch and pizza on Fridays. Get there early for the lunch because the cars started arriving at 11 when they put the food out. For major grocery shopping we stopped in Bar Harbor, but TIMS was great if you forgot something or just needed basics. Also, you can't buy any alcohol on the island so you have to buy it on Mt. Desert Island, but it is ok to bring it over. We bought lobster from TIMS and it was really reasonably priced and the kitchen at the house has everything you need to cook lobster. We really enjoyed Fine Sand Beach and the beaches near the lighthouse. It seems like around every corner there is a view even more beautiful than the one before.
One thing to note is the ferry. There are a limited number of ferries each day and they only hold about 17 cars. They take reservations for 4 cars, but after that it's first come, first served which means get there early (like at least an hour early). We made reservations whenever we could and the remaining times we arrived about an hour early and didn't have any troubles. We enjoyed going over to Acadia and Bar Harbor, but it's definitely more crowded over there than on Swan's Island.
I would recommend this house to anyone. Trust me, you'll be pleased
We are glad you enjoyed Robin House on Swans Island! It is a magical place and you can see why we fell in love with it 5 years ago. We are happy to share it with others! As a matter of fact, our daughter got engaged at Martini Point in late October, 2016!
LOVE LOVE LOVE, BEST FAMILY VACATION SPOT!!!
Robin House was the best vacation rental I have ever had. The location was absolutely beautiful. Secluded in the fairy tale forest watching the tides coming and going. Sitting on that back porch watching the squirrels chase each other and the birds walking around looking for clams at low tide was amazing. Robin House is the most/best stocked house I have rented, I usually bring everything for the week (toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, laundry pods, dishwasher pods and dish soap) but Barbara had all of that there, we didn't need to bring anything to feel at home. There was so much space to spread out, the bunk room and loft were awesome (young kids would love these rooms/beds) but we didn't need them with all the other rooms and beds, we could have brought more people and still had room, the house is so spacious. Barbara was so great at communicating the months. weeks and days leading up to vacation, and while we were there. She sent a welcoming text that evening to make sure we made it and were able to find the house alright. I was able to text her during the week if I had any questions (asked if there was a blender, next thing I know she has ordered a blender for the house). Things we did during our stay: explored low tide (lots of mud bring boots if you can), hiked the woods and rocks, went to fine sand beach and carrying place beach (but was little chilly), went to Burnt Coat Lighthouse and had a picnic then toured the lighthouse (so great, Loved it) watched eagles flying, went to the quarry and explored the cliffs, watching the lobster boats, TIMS store was great with lots of great food finds (Friday night pizza and the blueberry pie, so yummy), the Ferry was so fantastic (we would stand on the top to try and find seals and dolphins), favorite place on Swan's island was Martini Point so beautiful!!! As much as we loved the island we liked Bar Harbor too (not terribly far away from the island)!! We did so much more but those were the highlights. All of the locals that we encountered on Swan's Island were so friendly and nice, waving to people as we drive around and finding out about the history of the island was so much fun. If you are looking for a great family vacation spot to just get away from it all and have a down home experience this is the house for you. I can't wait to come back to Swan's Island and stay at Robin House again!!! Thank You Barbara and Jon for opening your house to our family!!
Alcohol cannot be purchased on the island, but can be brought onto the island. There is a small grocery/convenience store on the island for basics. You will want to do your shopping prior to getting on the ferry. Both Ellsworth and Bar Harbor have large grocery stores.
