About Jennifer and William Silveman
Built as a retirement home by an avid fisherman, this house has been used by our family for many years. We love Quimixto! We plan adventurous day trips into Puerto Vallarta, or other locations like the nearby zoo and the botanical garden. We then retreat back to the seclusion of our lovely village with the luxuries of a real beach house apart from it all. Nature lovers enjoy the ecology of the area with tropical birds, flowers, exotic fruit, marine life. We love getting to know the people in the village, learning spanish, and boogie boarding of course! Please inquire about our list of day activities we have enjoyed over the years while visiting Quimixto.
Jennifer and William Silveman purchased this House in 1998

The house was in a perfect location for the seclusion we wanted. The locals are very nice and helpful. It was a little surprising to have to chase out some land crabs and iguanas on the daily but that's part of the life here! 😉 We would highly recommend Casa Pelicana!
Rustic unplugged adventure
The location in Quimixto is superb for a tranquil get-away! WIth the hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta visable in the distance, this is a great place to just hang out and disconnect. Bring a book, craft, hobby, extra hammock and just turn your phone off! My family of 4 (kids ages 11 and 13) visited over spring break. We are not resort types. We wanted to experience local Mexico with as few tourists as possible. This was perfect! Well nearly perfect...the week before Easter is Semana Santa in Mexico and people flock to camp on the beach. Hence it was a bit more raucaus towards the end of the week than we would have prefered. That being said, Casa Pelicanos is great....literally ON THE BEACH. The nearby village is small and full of dogs and chickens. The landscape is beautiful. Raul the caretaker and his family are attentive and very nice. We bought vegetables in PV and took a chance on the teindas in the village for everything else. We had Paulita prepare two meals, red snapper and chili relenos...both superb. We ate dinner out a couple nights in Quimixto. And we shopped daily for our other meals. There is not much variety, and I fumbled with my Spanish a bit, but we stayed fed. It was simple, but fun! Things to keep in mind. You are in the jungle, so plan for some bugs and humidity. Neither were bad when we visited mid April. You are at the beach so plan for sand, sun, wind, and loud waves. Bring earplugs. You are in rustic accomodations, not all windows have glass, the plumbing is old, the water pressure and water temperature are unpredictable. We just rolled with it as part of the charm. You can snorkel right off the beach....in front of Coco's, the restaurant down the beach, is best. Nothing spectacular, but kept our interest every day for an hour or so. They also rent paddle boards there. Hike to the waterfall first thing in the morning before the day tourists arrive. Eat pie. I felt completely safe and let my kids venture out alone all the time.
A very special place
Our family had an amazing week here, kids did not want to leave. Raul and Palita's family were so welcoming and fantastic. Jennifer sent a wonderful welcome letter with all kinds of ideas, which was very helpful.
This is not a resort, this is a place where you walk to the local store to get what you need (though we asked Pailta to cook for us twice and it was awesome). The odds are you can get by without knowing Spanish, but it's much appreciated that you at least try. It was just what we needed, a place to branch out but also a less hectic pace, we found the town, area, and perople beautiful.
Spacious Ocean Front Property
I had been to Qumixto many times before on short day trips. This time we rented Casa Pelicanos for a few nights. The property is a bit rustic but has everything you need for a relaxing beach vacation. The staff and town residents are all very kind and helpful. I would love to go back one day.
While this place may not be for everyone, it was most definitely for us. We loved it. I met a Canadian woman on the bus in PV who said, "I've never really liked Quimixto. There's just nothing there." That is exactly what we like about it. And there is plenty there. Beautiful jungle, warm beaches, nice people, stunning hikes, amazing biodiversity, epic sunsets, delicious guacamole, cold beer, warm sun...it was a week of living simply and living well. If you are the type to roll with what comes and enjoy what is simple and there, this place is paradise. If you require luxury, look elsewhere. There was no hot water the week we were there, but with the ocean only feet away and the outdoor shower, we didn't miss it. Raul & Juan were so welcoming and helpful, getting us from the airport right to the house. Thank you, Jennifer & William, for a much needed week of rest and relaxation. We would love to visit again!
Thank you for your stay. I am glad you enjoyed your stay. It is a gem for the right people. Very special place. I am surprised to hear there was not hot water because we had a brand new hot water heater on demand installed in October. I encourage my guests to let us know if there are issues so we can fix the issues but I did not hear from anyone. I love hot showers after swimming in the ocean, and having hot showers in our house has never been a problem in the past. Thank you for your positive review. Glad to hear you will return at some point. Cheers!!
Everything we had hoped for and MORE!
We absolutely loved our stay at Casa Pelicanos. Jen was very helpful before our trip with information on the area and arrangements. Quimixto is so very cute and friendly and the Casa was everything we had hoped for our honeymoon. Getting to Boca Tomalin via taxi was very simple and Raul was waiting for us as promised. After a short panga ride, we arrived on the beach in front of the Casa. He was very helpful with information on local hikes and stores. The hike to the waterfall was an easy 20-30 minutes, while the hike to Los Animas was about an hour. The Casa was a great layout for 2 couples. It was easy to purchase everything we wanted for food and drinks in the village stores. CoCo’s is fantastic. Incredible food and great drinks. We ate there a couple of nights and had Paulita bring us dinner for 2 other nights. Everything was delicious. I would recommend bringing binoculars as we had whales breaching very close to the beach. Would also recommend disinfectant kitchen wipes as it is VERY important to keep the kitchen clean to avoid ants, etc. Paper towels and paper plates would be nice also. We are already planning our next trip to this little slice of paradise!
Quimixto is a fishing village that also thrives on small scale tourism offering horseback riding, scenic tours, fishing tours, small locally run cafe/restaurant, local food vendors, and mercados/ small grocery shops. Local cuisine includes fresh fish entrees such as ceviche, fresh coconut, and oysters in the nearby village of Las Animas.
Come to Quimixto and stay in this lovely beach house with optimal privacy RIGHT on the beach. Enjoy exploring the village, taking in A+ beach time, world class fishing opportunities, & day trips by foot, or the frequently running public water taxis.
Then the ferry comes to the village, the community comes alive with festivities including food stands, shopping, horseback and the offering of scenic tours, pictures with iguanas, and vendors on main street.
In the warm evening, take a stroll into town along the foot path for more low-key local life- have dinner at the local hamburger cart, see the delightful village in its true element with kids running around and townspeople visiting.
Visitors can spend the afternoon hiking along the coastal well worn path to the nearby village of Las Animas for a drink and a plate of fresh oysters from your choice of several restaurants. Las Animas also offers a zip line and parasailing- google it to make reservations.
From Boca Tomatlan you catch the 15 minute panga ride to Quimixto, day trips are possible to the zoo and the botanical gardens.
Beach combing, boogie boarding, FISHING, sunbathing, swiming, surfer watching, whale and dolphin watching from the porch, kite flying, frisbee... Truly a memorable experience and unique.
