About Jen Rynbrandt
I'm Jen, a gallery represented artist since 2004, a busy mother of four, and devoted wife to my fella. Together, we renovated and updated this cottage as a year-round vacation home for us and to share with fellow avid travelers.

Why Jen Rynbrandt chose Blue Hill
Coastal Maine has felt like home since my first visit back in graduate school. I suppose that's because my great- grandfather was a sea captain out of South Bristol, Maine, and the salt water is in my blood. It's been a dream of mine to have my own place to detox, sit, read, write, and paint. This property offers that in spades. I've been very deliberate in appointing the colors and furnishings in both form and function, focusing on color and visual stimuli that both pleases the eye and allows one to rest.
What makes this Cottage unique
There isn't a neighbor for a quarter mile. No lack of parking, no traffic. It is close to the road, so it's very easy to find with GPS, but private and comfortable. A place you wouldn't mind being at on a rainy day. There is no internet, cable or wifi. This is intentional. This is a place for rest and resurgence of family ties, friends, and loved ones. Who needs Youtube when there's Balderdash? An Atari throwback showdown with the kiddos? Yes, please! There's a kitchen table plenty big to work at if you must. But do be sure to prepare for fireside bonding, wild blueberry picking nearby, and the multitude of farmer's markets, local food and libations that Blue Hill has to offer. There's even a BYOB lobster shack in nearby Surry, where you can bring your 30 year old cognac to sip on in between buttery bites of fresh lobster and slaw.

Such a wonderful time!
If you are looking for a place to unwind and relax then this is the place. This was our second time to Blue Hill, but our first time with children and our first time staying at the cottage. The cottage is so beautiful and comfortable, and the perfect place to cook a nice meal, have a campfire, or take an afternoon nap. Our kids loved the Atari and we rented a few movies for the evening. Blue Hill is awesome because there are things to do in town (going to the beach/park, kayaking in the inner harbor - we even saw a seal, shopping, a very conveniently located grocery store), and it is such a perfect place for quick or long daytrips (Acadia and Bar Harbor, Surry for Pugnuts Icecream, Ellsworth for shopping and burritos at 86 This, 44 North Coffee and hiking). Everyone is so helpful and kind, it's just a great place to be.
The art throughout the cottage was so beautiful, and the colors were refreshing. It was immaculate and we had everything we needed (even a French press for coffee!). We were able to stay cool enough with the convenient fans throughout the house, despite it being in the 90s a few days while we were there. Jennifer was very helpful with travel tips and the whole process was seamless. This second trip to Blue Hill confirmed that we definitely want to come back to the same area in a few years, and would love to stay here again!
Thank you so much for the glowing review! I’m truly thrilled that you enjoyed your trip, particularly the kiddos! Would love to host your family again in the future! Try to come out during the fall colors if possible. It’s breathtaking and the weather is perfection!
Again, thank you!
exceptional, cozy and welcoming, well-appointed cottage
My wife and I came to Blue Hill for a week with a three-year-old son and a three-month-old daughter. This cute little house with wonderful, carefully selected decor and furnishings throughout was perfect as a base of operations to explore the beautiful Blue Hill Peninsula, Ellsworth, Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor (an easy hour's drive), and the Bangor area. Jen was a professional, welcoming host. The sun-filled kitchen/dining-area was a treat to cook in, the upstairs bedrooms were extremely comfortable, and the selection of games to play and movies to watch was also really great. The cottage succeeds in both feeling completely secluded and being a reasonably short drive from the center of Blue Hill. Our toddler particularly loved it, in part because of the circular floor plan on the first floor: he rechristened it "The Special Cottage." We would stay here again in a heartbeat, and didn't particularly want to leave. We can also imagine it being a perfect rental for a writer or visual artist for a one-week residency/retreat.
Michael- thank you for the thoughtful, glowing review of the cottage. I’m exceedingly pleased that your children loved the little house and hope that your family made many memories there! Would love to host your family again in the future!
My sister and I haven't seen each other for 10 yrs. She lives in NY where we both grew up and I am living in Western Tn for my work. So I picked her up in NY and we drove to Maine; very easy driving and easy to find. The cottage was filled with colorful decor, multi-colored rugs throughout and the owner's brilliant artistry. It really was a perfect place for both of us where I stayed upstairs and she was next to the bathroom in a pretty bedroom downstairs. The kitchen was wonderful and had as much as anyone would need to make meals if wanting to cook at the house. We enjoyed the seafood cuisine as we traveled along Maine's seacoast visiting the quaint towns along the way. The only critique I wasn't loving was the very close proximity to the main road. Overall we loved staying here and all its charming beauty. Thank You Jen for your warm and kind welcome!
Crabapple Cottage sits on a country road dotted with local period farms and homes. There are no immediate neighbors (unless you count the turkeys in the Christmas tree farm next door...)
