Ghastly filthy rental
Contesting charges as I was unable to stay in this filthy flat. Vomit crusted down on bed. Toilet and shower amazingly dirty. Grit on shower floor. Obvious electric issues as majority of plugs with scorch marks. Freezer had unidentifiable brown stuff in it. Fridge smelled musty. Oven with over an inch caked on burnt food. Entire kitchen unclean. Board with nails extruding lying on shelf. No Wi-Fi as promised. Owner did not respond to any prior communication, neither email nor text. When finally reached on phone, he denied all issues. Said he would send someone to look but not fix any issues. We declined to stay. Neighborhood felt unsafe and heavily armed police on streets. Definitely false advertising. Owner rude, abrasive, laughed at my concerns and hung up on me. Negative review.
It is difficult to respond sincerely to a review that is based on fiction that best fits a bad Hollywood movie.
Needless to say there was or is no vomit, pubic hair, no scorch marks, the electrics are fine, there is fully functional wifi, etc. in the apartment. The apartment is in a quiet suburban residential area of London. It is not in a war zone. There are no armed police (heavily armed or even lightly armed). This is the UK. As I am sure most people are aware, police on the street in England do not have guns.
From Hollywood to the actual reality.
MaryAlice booked the apartment about 2 months before her arrival.
On the day of arrival, she sent us one voice text saying there was an emergency. We responded 10 minutes later.
We called and spoke to MaryAlice to understand the emergency. She was aggressive and confrontational. She indicated that she had the following issues. There was 1 set of keys (not 2) . She had issues with the cleaning in the kitchen. She indicated that some linen was missing. She also didn’t like the area – she wanted to be more Central (i.e. in Central London).
There were 2 people and so one set of keys is normal. However, if you somebody wants more, just ask kindly.
We communicated that if she was not happy with some cleaning, we could get a cleaner round to correct. We also said that if some linen was missing, we would send someone down to provide more.
She then said that the electrical sockets were burn out. This seemed very strange because the previous guests who had stayed there happily had just checked out that day with no issues. She then said the area was not safe. We refuted this for we or our guests have never had any safety issues or concerns.
We said that we would send somebody round in the next hour to look, verify and obviously resolve if there was a problem. Obviously, there is no point sending somebody to look and not resolve (as she has stated).
We were then threatened by her that if we did not give a full refund immediately, she would give us a bad review. However, we don’t do blackmail. As you can see, she was true to her word.
We reaffirmed, the proper course of action was for us to view the property so we could verify her issues. If her allegations were true we would rectify. Obviously, if the allegations are verified true and cannot be rectified, then she may be liable for a refund. We agreed that one of my colleagues would come round within the hour.
My colleague went round and they had left, We inspected the property and could not verify any of her allegations.
We sent an email summarising the phonecall we shared and indicating that we were disappointed that she was not there to help verify her allegations. She never responded and has not communicated since.
It seemed that the MaryAlice’s behaviour was fuelled by the fact that she wanted to nearer Central London (Kensington or Chelsea). For total clarity, this apartment is not in Central London but in Walthamstow (zone 3) as advertised. It is a normal quiet suburban family area that is 10 minutes walk to the tube station that has quick access to Central London.
I would advise you to look at the other reviews. If only half of the issues were true, they would have definitely come up in the previous reviews.
Mary has initiated a fraudulent credit card chargeback which we are pursuing aggresively.
Week stay-first time in London area
We were moved to a different property before arriving due to some work being done on this property. The problem was, we were never notified of the change, although the owner said an email was sent to us. I did tell the owner we would be traveling in Europe the week before arriving,, before we left. I checked email every couple of days while traveling. When we. Arrived, the key box was empty, so i called and it was then I learned We were moved. Luckily we only had a four block walk with all of our luggage and my 80 year old father. The home we were moved to was bigger, need to ask for toilet paper and soaps, but otherwise. Was nice. I recommend the owners add a couple of baking pans, baking sheets, perhaps? We cooked at home only a couple of times because there were not enough pans, no spices or salt/pepper, etc. Beds were comfortable-a few loud neighbors a night or two, but nothing too bad. Baths worked fine-main floor bath has a deep tub, so harder for older people to get in to shower. Thank you for the upgrade to a larger home. Just recommend in the future more than an email should be sent out of a change in where we are staying. What if we had to be cancelled and found out at the door ? Thanks again.
There was a problem with the 2 bedroom apartment they booked which mean't works had to be initiated. Therefore, we upgraded them to a larger 3 bedroom house which was just a few streets away. We sent various emails to inform the guest.
Unfortunately, the guest didn't pick up her emails and hence went to the original apartment. She called and we directed her to the larger house.
Appreciate that it may have been convenient. However, considering the emergency problem we had with the apartment, I believe we reacted well by providing a larger property just a few streets away and informing them via email well beforehand.
There would be no way any booking would be cancelled. We do not cancel bookings.
Nice 2 Bedroon Flat - Convenient location in Walthamstow
Everything went perfectly smoothly getting in and out. The flat is nice and clean and spacious by London standards. Wifi and TV worked well.
I look forward to staying here again in the future and I will recommend it to my family the next time they visit.
There are a few little things I would recommend that would really kick it up a notch though. Some bedside and table lamps would really improve the lighting atmosphere, and there are a few minor fixes needed: The bathroom door latch sticks and there is some loose carpet. Other than that, it's a 5 star.

Facilities excellent, all rooms are of a good size. Very pleased with both cable tv and wi-fi. Rental very clean and tidy, kitchen had all the requirements and the bath room very pleasing. Local people were very nice. Will be pleased to use it again.

From your apartment take Bus 158 towards Blackhorse Road Station (get off High street /Walthamstow market - 7 minutes journey)
Walthamstow Market has been in operation since 1885, and it still remains Europe's longest street market, taking up the entire length of the high street. The market stalls sell cheap clothing, hand bags, bric-a-brac, fresh fruit and veg, books and second hand CDs amongst other things, with traders loudly touting their wares to passers-by. The market doesn't open on Sundays or Mondays and the busiest days by far are Fridays and Saturdays when getting from one end of the street to the other can become quite a chore. Luckily you can dive into one of the local caffs, pubs or the pie and eel shop for a breather. On Sunday mornings, a separate farmer's market operates just off the high street, on the Town Square opposite the shopping mall, which sells organic fruit and veg, cheeses, meat, eggs and bread.
