Victorian Retreat (top 2 floors) in Historic Ballard

Property Details

Updated: Sep 19, 2016
2 bd apartment on 2nd & 3rd floors of renovated circa 1900 home

(Contact us for significantly reduced rates for 30+ days) This delightful retreat is located on the second and third floors of a turn-of-the-last-century house in historic old Ballard. It is a complete, fully functional home with a fully equipped kitchen. Nothing is shared with the main floor unit except laundry facilities in the shared entry. Acoustic insulation insures that you will hear little if anything from your downstairs neighbor.

Ballard has everything you could want. Living in this home, it's all at your doorstep! Within 1 block you can enjoy espresso and some of the best bread and French pastries in Seattle. Within a 6 block radius you can enjoy an upscale movie house, a diverse array of restaurants, shops and the fabulous year-round Sunday Farmer’s Market offering fresh locally grown produce and products. If your visit is job-related, you will also have access to a post office, FedEx, Kinko’s and newly built-green public library. A personal fax machine is available upon request.

This apartment was completely renovated in 2013 in keeping with the home's original character. We did it with the intent of moving in when we retire, so the work is top notch and very tasteful. Oak floors extend through the entry, living room, kitchen, stairs to third floor and both bedrooms. The acoustic insulation between this home and the main floor unit is amazing! It is very quiet and peaceful.

About the Owner

Bob and Mary have owned this 100+ year old farmhouse Victorian for decades. Restoring and maintaining it has become a very enjoyable hobby. We are using it as a short-term rental because it allows us to share the home with a lot of people. We have many repeat guests that refer to it as their 'other home'. We plan to move in ourselves when we retire. We currently live a couple of miles to the north.

The Entire 5 days were perfect!

  • 5 of 5

I've been eyeing this home on VRBO for awhile. It has been booked when I wanted to rent it, except for last week!

I was very excited to arrange 5 nights there. It exceeded our expectations in every way. It had everything (plus more) that we needed. So close to downtown but being in a great neighborhood was a plus. Returning 'home' after a day out was the best! The owners were available if we needed them.

Perfect place and location

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time staying at the Ballard Victorian, but our first in the upper apartment. Beautiful and well-maintained space with all that you need. Owners are prompt with all communications. Fully stocked kitchen, large bathroom, two bedrooms with very comfortable beds, and a large living and dining area. This rental is walking distance to everything needed in Ballard: delicious cafes and restaurants, lively nightspots, historic locations, grocery stores, and even the bus to downtown Seattle! Definitely our go-to place when we're in the Seattle area.

Excellent experience and beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this historic Ballard home. The kitchen was fully equipped and the house had everything we needed. We came to Seattle for a wedding and the location was perfect. The house was very clean and we felt right at home immediately. I would definitely recommend this home and would stay here again. Thanks!

Charming Victorian in Ballard

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this lovingly restored Victorian style home for a week in Oct. 2015. We were visiting our son who lives nearby and the location of this home was perfect for us. It is an easy walk to all of the fine dining and shopping to be found in Ballard. (Being only a block from Cafe Besalu is enough to put it on our A list)

The kitchen is very spacious and well equipped. The living room area comfortable. There is ample light from many windows and skylights. Although we didn't need AC when we were there, it is nice to have it available for any hot summer days.

The owners are very helpful and accommodating.

Thanks, Bob and Carol!

Comfortable and convenient

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here 6 nights in mid-June 2015. Husband and I were traveling with two teenage boys (16 and 18--6'2" and 6'3") and this place worked perfectly for us. Although it is only 2 bed, one bath, the unit is spacious and airy. The master bedroom was decent sized, and the second bedroom had two twin beds--perfect for our teens. The one bathroom is downstairs (be prepared for a journey if you feel the call of nature in the night--you will have to descend the stairway and walk through the kitchen), but it is large and equipped with ample linens. Kitchen had everything needed for a little cooking. Ballard is about an 8 minute walk, and it's one of the best neighborhoods in Seattle. Lots of good restaurants, great bread bakeries (try the Tall Grass Bakery for morning and evening fresh loaves!), little shops, and a farmer's market on Sunday mornings. The owner conveniently leaves reusable bags for shopping and comprehensive instructions to help you master Seattle's elaborate recycling program. This unit has only street parking, but we always found a spot. It's bright, airy, and comfortable, and the bedrooms each have an remote-controlled A/C unit in case you feel stuffy at night. We recommend this place (but do note that it has several stairs--to climb to the front porch, then to arrive at upstairs unit, and then to reach the bedrooms, so that may be a problem for older folks).

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for one week in March 2014. It was our first time to Seattle and we loved this Ballard location for its walking proximity to restaurants and coffee shops. The kitchen was also very nice and we enjoyed cooking in with groceries from nearby town and country market. We also rented a car (free street parking available) and easily explored the rest of Seattle from this location. Some of our trip highlights were the St Paddy's Day Dash, oysters from The Walrus and the Carpenter, the Ballard Locks, and wine pairing at Chateau St. Michelle. Owner was also nice enough to mail me my favorite cardigan which I had accidentally left behind.
