About Dia Michels

I moved to Washington DC in 1980 to save the world. Unfortunately, the world could still use quite a bit of help! I, however, fell in love with DC and never left. I met my husband in 1981 and we have lived here ever since. This home was our first house in DC. We currently live in a larger and newer (1905) townhouse in the same neighborhood. We fell in love with Capitol Hill and have raised our three kids here. We love the area and want to share it with others.

Dia Michels purchased this townhome in 1983

Why Dia Michels chose Washington DC

This 1858 charming home is from the Civil War era. The house has been totally upgraded with an open layout, 4 flat screen TVs, an amazing leather sectional sofa, fabulous beds and a lovely front porch and backyard. In addition, we just installed solar panels on the roof! Just one block off Barracks Row, the house is caddy-corner to the Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., the oldest active post in the Corps and near the Washington Naval Yard and old Naval Hospital (now a community center). The house is quaint, yet spacious and with a location just 8 blocks from the U.S. Capitol, the location is ideal.

What makes this townhome unique

Washington DC is a great place to spend time. The city is compressed, so you can get anywhere is a short time. We have great public transportation (the Eastern Market Metro is just 3 blocks away) and the city is flat, so it is perfect for walking and cycling. Rent this house for access to the entire city. Entertain friends, BBQ in the yard or walk around the block where there are dozens of restaurants. Live theater, great parks, free museums and baseball are all just a few steps away!

WE HAD THIS ONE ISSUE AND IT WAS WITH THE STAIRS.THE YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE FAMILY LOVED IT BUT THE THREE OLDER FAMILY MEMBERS FOUND IT TO BE A LITTLE UNCOMFORTABLE .

THE LOCATION WAS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT.

Great location with lots of space for a family

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. There was lots of space. Everything you need for a pleasant stay. Close to many restaurants and two grocery stores were within walking distance. Only a 15 minute walk from the Capitol. Three baths were a nice convenience for 5 adults getting away quickly in the morning. Planned on using the grill, but after checking it out decided it needed a good cleaning and a few parts replaced.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and it met our expectations.

Great home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent a week in this home. The location is great just a few blocks from Eastern Market Metro Stop, Eastern Market, 8th Street restaurants and Pennsyvania Ave from the Captiol to 8th Street. We walked to Capitol Mall so did not need the Metro to get around. The house was clean, a back yard with grill and umbrella table that we used. The house is well stocked so we could do some cooking, beds were fine, plenty of towels. It was nice having friends over and setting in the back yard. No Bugs!! It is a very quiet neighborhood. We felt very safe and taken care of. If it works we will go back.

Fantastic location, very comfortable and well appointed. Great owner support!

  • 5 of 5

The home not only met but exceeded our expectations. It was exactly as described. Very clean, well appointed and in a fantastic location. The beds were quite comfortable and we are very picky due to back issues. The kitchen had everything that we needed, the appliances were newer and worked perfectly. The bathrooms were updated and quite modern. The back yard and the grill were added bonuses. Everything that we needed was in walking distance or a short trip with Uber/Lyft, etc. I was very impressed with the owner, Dia. We had never been to Washington DC before and she was a wealth of information on how to get from Baltimore to DC navigating the mass transit system which saved us lots of money. We did not leave the area until late in the day and Dia allowed us to leave our bags until just before we left for the airport. She was very accommodating. I'd be happy to stay again and am delighted to recommend this home for your stay.
