We love this place. Came last year and hope to again next year. This is not your luxurious accommodations. It is your “feel at home when you walk in “ place. Walking distance to grocery, thrift stores, local pub, etc.. Driving distance to many attractions in any direction. Highly recommend this one of a kind home.
The property was in the middle of all the events leading up to the wedding so all of the family could spend time together! It was perfect and Kathy Curry (owner) couldn’t have been more helpful! I would highly recommend!!
Nice place to relax. Need a place to put things in the downstairs bedroom. A few washclothes too.
Sorry you didn't find a place to put things in the downstairs sweet...there are two closets in the hallway just outside the bathroom. One has floor to ceiling shelves for folded items and the other is completely empty to permit hanging full length items and to stow away suitcases etc.
As for washcloths, they are in the closet in the bathroom along with towels and other items. We will be sure to alert other guests in case they are not able to see these amenities.
Hurts to have our only 4 star rating on the basis of amenities that we assumed were obvious. We will be sure not to assume that in future.
July Vacation !
Such a lovely house and great location! We felt right at home and the house had everything we needed and was immaculate... will definitely be back again.
We had an incredible stay at this property. The house was well appointed, clean and convenient for exploring the area. The patio was great and looked out over Dolores with all you need in walking distance.
Could have been better
I don't normally like to leave a review unless it's a 5 star because I realize this is a source of income for the owner. This property was OK but could have been better. It say's that it's "pet friendly" but then states that pets are to stay outside. (the owner did let our dog sleep in one room, downstairs, during the evenings but we had to ask for an exception) If pets aren't allowed in all of the house, it's not pet friendly, just like non-smoking means you can smoke but not in the house.
Complain #2 is that it could have been cleaner. Many of the hard wood floors had dust bunnies. Some of the blankets literally looked like someone wiped their butt on them. (more than one blanket was like this) Maybe they were stained that way but it's still gross. The towels were dried on a clothes line in the backyard. I'm all for saving energy and being environmentally friendly but you also need to take into account pollen in the air. For several days 2 of the folks in our party had head aches and thought it was due to the altitude but turns out, right after a shower their faces were red and the head aches began shortly after that. We washed some of the towels and dried them in the dryer and the problem went away. The towels were also originally very stiff and the clothes line in the back yard is visible so this isn't an assumption.
I know, most owners will respond to complaints like this stating "why didn't you say something about the cleanliness so we could address the issue" but it really should be address before the guests arrive. We just decided to deal with it because we really didn't want someone coming in to clean while we were staying there and also because some of these issues were discovered over the course of our stay and not on day 1.
One last suggestion for improvement would be to invest in new sheets and new towels for the house. The quality of the towels and sheets was about as good as you could find at Goodwill. (also maybe invest in a new BBQ grill?)
I think this rental is a good place to stay for hunters, or for people who aren't picky about cleanliness, or for those looking to spend less than you might in Durango.
Sorry for the negative review. We did enjoy our stay but it was more because of the people we stayed with and our experiences outside of the home.
Wow! Still a little speechless from this review. We are a Homeaway Premier Partner due to the excellent reviews we have had, so to get this disparaging review really took the wind out of our sails. We also rent 4 other properties on a competing site and they are also all 5 star super host sites.
We thought our page on Homeaway was completely clear as to exactly what our pet policy is, but apparently it came across as a misrepresentation. We thought we had communicated a mutually beneficial arrangement but it does not seem this was satisfactory.
We do dry our towels on a clothesline but will be sure to run them through a dryer in future to give the “hotel” experience.
Our home, which has garnered excellent reviews until now, is featured as “Farmhouse flavor in the heart of our Colorado River Town”. Since my wife and I have always enjoyed quirky, charming hotels and restaurants with character instead of the corporate sameness which characterizes most modern hotels, we have tried to replicate that. Our silverware are mismatched and our blankets are all different...be forewarned.
Since the farmhouse approach has met with complete praise until now, we are going to stick to our plan.
We did find one blanket with an old and very faint wine stain on it and, despite our knowing that it is a good, clean and serviceable blanket, we will dispose of it lest anyone else mistakes it for not being clean. We are not sure why someone was looking in the closets at our blankets during the middle of July, but we will assure that all the blankets are perfect.
As for general cleanliness, we employ a cleaning crew that is also used at a luxury 5-star resort up river that has hosted European royalty and Google executives and they have done an excellent job for us. We also inspect the house after the cleaning crew is finished but before guests come. While it is certainly possible that “dust bunnies” were missed, we do everything in our power and go to great expense to assure that this does not happen.
In words made famous by Abraham Lincoln “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”. We will continue to do our best and hope that folks who stay with us will also feel the same as all the rest of our guest have felt.
