3 Bedroom, 1.5 Bath, With Private Parking in a Park-Like Setting!
Our AMAZING renovated seven-room, three-bedroom, 1.5 bath single family home in the Castro District in San Francisco is filled with original antiques and furnishings which provides an authentic Victorian experience. The property includes a private driveway with an automatic gate leading to a parking area that will accommodate up to 3 cars! Be aware that off-street parking is really essential if you’re traveling with a car in San Francisco – even if there is street-parking available, most residential neighborhoods limit non-resident parking to 2-hours.
The 4,000 square ft. garden with a detached garage, and potting shed is virtually unheard of in the City. The yard has a brick BBQ grill, and is filled with mature trees of all sorts including figs, avocados, and plums. The home was moved to its current location after the 1906 earthquake on a sled pulled by horses! The tool shed on the lower-level was originally the house’s horse stable, and was in use until the early 20’s. We purchased the home from the family that moved it to the property over a hundred years ago!
The front entry on the main-level leads to our beautiful living room with walls lined with photos of the original owners. Leaving the living room, you enter a hallway with a staircase leading to the upstairs bedrooms. Each room has a queen-size bed and is furnished with additional antique pieces. Adjacent to the living room you will find the dining room with a lovely round oak table that can be extended to seat six. Off the dining room is the third bedroom / office / media room with a queen-size sofa-bed, a 55” LED flat-screen television, HD cable, a Blu-Ray player, and a comfortable desk with an all-in-one printer for your use. Note: Although this is a 100 year-old home, it is equipped with all the electronic bells and whistles including a full automation / security system, and very high speed (50Mbs) WiFi internet access.
At the rear of the house off the dining room is a large “Julia Child” vintage kitchen which is fully stocked for cooking and entertaining. Just off the kitchen is a small foyer leading to a full bath and the staircase to the lower-level. On the lower-level there is a separate toilet, wash sink, and full laundry facilities. The laundry room leads to the former stable with access to the garden.
The garden is truly one of the best features of the property. It is literally a million-dollar lot that was never developed, and maintained as open space. This provides a unique tree-filled tranquil area that will make you forget you are in the middle of a bustling city!
Our home is on a tree-lined street in the heart of the San Francisco where you will find amazing shops, bars and restaurants. It is a wonderful area to explore on foot, and there is ready access to public transportation: Walk Score: 95, Transit Score: 98! The MUNI Metro Stop is 1 block away next to a terrific park with a great children’s playground; the Metro will have you downtown in 15 minutes. And, the historic F-Line, a short walk away on Market Street, will take you directly to the Ferry Building, Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf. San Francisco Airport is 12 miles away and the house is easily accessed from the Highway.
We have lived in this neighborhood for over 25 years and we LOVE the area, and you will too!

Lovely housein a great location
We came to San Francisco with our daughters and their partners to celebrate a special birthday. From the moment of arrival we felt welcome and comfortable in this charming old house. It is in perfect location to explore the city, and the beautiful houses and architecture of the Castro and surrounding neighbourhoods make every excursion interesting and fun. Ken and Mary provide everything you could possibly need. Altogether this was a really special vacation.
Doing it right in San Francisco
From the time we walked in to be greeted by wine, cheese and sparkling water, we knew we had selected the right place! The Owners went the extra mile to accommodate our family which included our 18 month old grandchild. There were gates at the stairs, high chair and pack and play, big time thanks! The exterior space was great for our grandchild to play and having two parking spaces was an added bonus. The Owners were were incredibly responsive and helpful. Our family of 7 thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We would gladly stay there again!
A fabulous property in a nice neighbourhood
We have loved our stay in this property, it was spotlessly clean when we arrived and loved the touch of cheese, crackers and wine. There are 2 rooms upstairs and we used the sofa bed in the TV room for our son. The parking space is so useful and very safe with electric gates. The area is good and on a tram line which leads to Fisherman's Wharf - very easy so once your car is here you don't need to drive at all. We liked the interior which the owners had made to fit the age of the house (1910s ?) We would really recommend a stay in this property.
Thanksgiving Guest House
We used Mary & Ken's house as a guest house for our family visiting from the East Coast for Thanksgiving. We live in the neighborhood, so this location worked absolutely perfect! The house was well stocked for hosting family, baking holiday goodies, and refreshing after long days out sightseeing. The location really is perfect, easy walking distance to everything you need. Mary & Ken (and the neighbors) were all very friendly and helpful. We will definitely book for out of town guests again!
Excellent location and super clean
My family and my parents rented this house for five days in September. It was ideal for us (4 adults and two kids. Easy walking to lots of public transport and shops. It was nice to stay in a neighbourhood so we could feel like locals. Best of all it was super clean. Ken and Mary were really helpful as well.
Very Nice house and great owners who are involved
We really liked our stay at the house. Ken and Mary are very involved with the property and communicated with us numerous times to be sure we were satisfied with the property. The neighborhood was safe and central. It was totally stocked. If we ever venture out there again, we will mostly likely stay there.
I posted a very long and glowing review of this property twice now. This is my third attempt so it's shorter because I don't want to keep typing the same thing over and over. Take a bike ride over the GG bridge, and then ferry back. Eat at Sotto Mare for the best seafood Cioppino you can imagine. Rent a car from Getaway and drive to Muir.

“This house was owned by my husbands long time friends and neighbor Lou and Marie. It had been in Marie's family for over 100 years. When Lou died we bought the house to preserve the land and prevent another San Francisco home from being destroyed. All of the remodeling was done by us and our friends and family who also care about preserving San Francisco.”
Activity and Interests
Our home is located in the heart of San Francisco's Castro District. Even though we are very close to the action, the house is on a quiet street directly across from the Valley Medical Center and 1 block to the Metro that can take you anywhere in the City within minutes. We have wonderful restaurants right outside our door!
