What an amazing Gem!

  • 5 of 5

We had a three weeks long vacation in Costa Rica last year. This was the first house out three we rented in various parts of the country. After a day here, I was hooked. This was such an amazingly beautiful and peaceful place. It was secluded, gorgeous views, spacious, very private and peaceful. So close to La Fortuna where all the hot springs, and tourists attractions of the area are. Not too far from Monteverde, an incredible rain forest. People in the area were so friendly and accommodating. We had a blast, and I hope to find my way back to Costa Rica some day, and I hope to stay at this place a lot longer. The owner was a pleasure to work with, and his local staff, amazing. You will not be disappointed!

great stay

  • 5 of 5

Great place. The only problem is that we were so busy doing events in the Arenal region that we had little time to hang out and enjoy this beautiful property. Very idyllic. Beautiful. Owner was great as well.

Thanks. K Johnston and family

Beautiful home, Beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

We spent 5 nights at the Villa. The views are spectacular, the house is beautiful and can easily handle the strong winds and rain we experienced on our trip. Everything was as advertised on the website, we were very happy with everything. The owner and property manager were very accommodating considering our flight was delayed in the states and we got their pretty late in the evening. The house is in a very remote area so you should keep in mind you are likely to encounter bugs. We were ready for this so it did not bother us when we did see some both inside and out. We just swept them outside, not a big deal. We are in the jungle after all. The fireflies flying outside the window gave us a nice light show we aren't used to being from So. Cal. The Howler monkeys yelling at sunrise was our alarm clock and loved it. Only one issue kept us from giving a 5 star review. We heard movement in the attic and was told it was bats. From time to time the owner chases them out with spotlights. On some days they were very active, making lots of noise. We noticed areas of the wood ceiling where it appears the bat droppings have started staining the wood. Once the attic is cleaned, I wouldn't hesitate to give this place 5 stars. Our real regret was not staying longer. Toad Hall is a nine minute walk down the road. The food is excellent and the employees are the friendliest people we met in CR. John and his mother Jami are amazing chefs. I recommend you try John's homemade salsa. Best we've ever had! His deep fried ice cream is also too good to pass up. Also don't miss the sunset at Tinajas in Nuevo Arenal. They serve a great pizza as well. We will be back and we will book this house again!

Stunning Views

  • 4 of 5

This is a great place, in a lovely setting surrounded by a beautifully manicured garden and farmers fields beyond that. It has a wonderful covered patio to enjoy the outdoors, even if raining. A wonderful variety of colourful birds were seen from the yard. Not quite a 5 star rating as it is fairly far to services and attractions in the area. It almost an hour to get to La Fortuna where you would want to get your groceries if planning to cook. The kitchen has all the tools you need but there were virtually no staples (e.g. salt, cooking oil, coffee filters) in the house, so being a long distance from a grocery store was something I would have wanted to be aware of before we arrived. As well, the 1 km of dirt road off the main access road is very rough and requires a vehicle with high clearance.

That said, overall we loved our stay here and I would recommend it it very highly.
