Reviewer Comments:

The location is amazing, the most beautiful beach in Hawaii. The house is big, well presented and a true beach home. However the kitchen needs an update, cupboards falling apart, no range good and a faulty toaster which blows the power boards. There is a faulty toilet off the living room that was blocked twice during our stay. HBH was not available as we checked in on a Sunday and Minday was a holiday so no power and toilet for two days. They did fix the issues on Tuesday ASAP. Lack of emergency contact for check in was disappointing also. One room has no curtains and the room near the jacuzzi has a strange smell which is from the septic tank in the cupboard. No beach toys (kayak) as mentioned in previous review which is disappointing. Overall the price we paid is similar to a luxury hotel but the house is not luxury at all. If we didn't pay in advance we would have booked elsewhere.

Both front and back yards are absolutely beautiful with fantastic access to the beach. We went as a family and the three grandkids easily took to the water. The floor plan of the house worked great.

Reviewer Comments:

Overall, we had a lovely time. The house itself was in good condition, had everything we needed for a home-away-from-home feel. The view was breathtaking and being a stone's throw from the beach was nice but it wasn't without a downfall. With public access so close, we were subject to a couple of mishaps: our car was rummaged thru (within 20 mins of getting home) and overnight we suspect someone came into the house and stole my mom's phone that was charging in the kitchen. Unfortunately, the security camera was off that night so no proof. Just bad luck, I guess. It's not an unsafe area by any means--just make sure to lock up every night. HBH was super responsive to all inquiries and working with them was great. I would rent from them again.

Reviewer Comments:

Beautiful sandy beach, great swimming, calm trade winds. No tourist or hotels..just friendly locals. Small food coop within walking distance. Highly recommend this home and location! Hiked up the Lighthouse paved trail gave a beautiful view with lots of Whales. The only downside is the managements maintenance of the place. On arrival refrigerator didn't work the stove top didn't work so we went for the grill and it didn't have a bottom to hold coals. The white sofas had dirt and black hair on them the security lights and cameras were hanging with duck tape and no outside lights were working. The cable didn't work on the main tv which our husbands troubleshooted until we got a new cable box. The large windows were smeared with salt and dirt, the dishwasher sounds like a small aircraft taking off. After a day of calls to homeaway staff a few visits from maintenance men, a delivery of a new grill and refrigerator, covering the sofas with sheets and hosing down the windows. We had a lovely stay. It is a lovely home and great location just get Homeaway staff to make sure its clean and maintained and you will Love it!!

Owner's Response: - Just before the guests arrived the fridge had been cleaned out by the housekeeping staff, during which time it became warm. The guests checked in and filled the fridge with food, which slowed down the cooling process further. The guest was quite upset about this situation, so we brought her a new fridge to put food in. When the maintenance man delivered the new fridge he put a thermometer into the original fridge and found it was at 38 degrees, within the temperature range of a working fridge. This guest complaint was dealt with quickly, and we feel that our staff provided excellent service by bringing over a brand new fridge that reached slightly lower temperatures. - There was a hole in the part of the grill that holds coals. This had not been previously reported by guests or cleaners, as it seems that the prior guests had covered the hole with tin foil in order to use the grill. When it was reported to us we immediately brought a new grill to the house. We apologized for this inconvenience, and worked quickly to solve the problem. - The breaker for the stove top needed to be switched on. After the breaker was flipped the stove worked. - The house is beachfront on the windward side. Salt can grime up the beach side windows almost immediately after they are cleaned depending on which way the winds are blowing. We provide a hose and large squeegee for this purpose: as soon as salt builds simply spray it off quickly with the hose, then follow with the squeegee. This process takes about five minutes. Most guests understand that sea spray can effect windows quickly, we should have done more to explain this to the guests. - The dishwasher makes noise, but not enough to have earned a complaint prior to today. The dishwasher was and is working. - The cable was working, a cord had simply been unplugged. No new cable box was needed or taken over as stated in the review. Our IT person went to the house and plugged in the cord, the cable is working.

The people at Hawaii beach homes were awesome as usual! Had a wonderful vacation aside from one of our cars being broken into, I've stayed here long enough to know better than to leave anything in the car so my bad. Beautiful beach, cozy house can't wait till next year.

Reviewer Comments:

Our family of seven, all ages (7 to 77), loved our stay in Waimanalo, a town away from all the hype, traffic, and tourists. The house worked so well with plenty of room for all of us, with a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and plenty of sitting area. Waimanalo has Shima's market with chocolate macadamia nut pie, Dave's famous ice cream, a couple of good casual places to eat, shave ice, a statue of the famous Sumo wrestler from Hawaii, Akebono Taro, and friendly people. Nearby at Koolau Golf Course is Honey's for authentic music and the much-beloved Kawainui Marsh, 800 acres of historic conservation land. Our 7-year-old grand daughter loved the surf on the windy days. I would recommend providing a card table - easier for games than the dining room table.
