Clean, cheerful apartment in the heart of historic Capitol Hill. A short, lovely walk to the Capitol, Congress, Library of Congress, Folger Shakespearean Library and the Supreme Court. Smithsonians, Monument and National Mall are a walk, bike or Metro ride away. This apartment is close to everything-2 blocks from Eastern Market Metro/bike rentals, and famous Barrack's row (home to dozens of restaurants and the country's oldest Marine Barracks). Walk one block to coffee shops, a twice-weekly farmers' market, weekend flea market, two great second-hand bookstores, shops and fabulous Eastern Market, where you can buy fish, meat, produce, flowers, dairy and bakery items. Apartment comes fully equipped, with coffee, tea, milk, honey, spices and cooking oils provided. Guest are greeted with a welcome basket. Eat-in kitchen seats four to five, highchair and booster seat available on request, washer/drier, iron/ironing board provided. Master bedroom has a queen bed, linens provided. Second bedroom/family room has a large screen TV and a daybed with trundle, linens provided. The trundle can be elevated to turn two twins into one queen. An additional cot is available for a fifth guest. Wifi/cable, books, board games provided. Long-term residents: public indoor pool (25 meters) one block away, two gyms within 7 blocks, dry cleaners, drugstore are two blocks away. Parking pass provided for guests with cars.

About Meg Kelly

My grandparents immigrated from Ireland, bought a house on the Hill, and my family has been here ever since. My friends and I spent our summers running around the air-conditioned halls of Capitol and Smithsonians. My husband and I lived in NY and L.A. (he's an actor, I'm a scriptwriter) and moved back in 2005 to be near my parents. We've loved watching our kids grow up in this wonderful neighborhood. We are on-site to help make your stay a great one.

Why Meg Kelly chose Washington DC

We wanted to be walking distance from my parents, near Eastern Market and one of the greatest second-hand bookstores, Capitol Hill Books. Grocery shopping at eastern Market, nearby Harris Teeter, and charming corner stores make this an easy neighborhood to live in. We also love using the indoor, public pool one block away, and walking our dogs in beautiful Lincoln Park. Our daughter loves rowing on the Potomac River. Kayaks and other boats are available to rent at Thompson's Boat House. My kids also love hitting a bucket of balls at Hain's Point public golf course. Bike share stations are all over the city, two within a few blocks of our house.

What makes this apartment unique

We love this house for a lot of reasons, historic charm, location, friendly neighbors, and, because its a corner house, the large, sunny rooms. The apartment is English basement, with two or more 3x3 windows in every room. We're around the corner from coffee shops, cafes, Eastern Market and, on weekends, a flea and farmer's market. The Metro, two blocks away, means the zoo, downtown, Chinatown, Reagan Airport, George Washington University and American University are all easily accessible and quick to reach.

Great place, convenient and affordable

Family of 4 in D.C. for 3 nights. Perfect for us. Meg offered twin beds instead of the second Queen bed and that was great, no blanket stealing fights.

The apt. had nice touches; breakfast mixes, teas, condiments, toiletries, etc.

Some little things I look for:

1. It was clean.

2. The shower had good water pressure.

3. We were able to put our bags in the apt. prior to check in and leave them after the check out time for a couple of hours so we could explore without dragging suitcases.

4. Comfortable beds. Even the added twin cot had some memory foam and a fluffy cushion over the mattress. My 18 year old daughter said it was like sleeping on a cloud.

5. We felt very safe in the apt. and the neighborhood.

6. Washer and dryer in the apt.! Detergent and dryer sheets also available. We weren't there long but went on to NYC to a hotel so it was nice to be able to pack a little less knowing I could wash a few things.

Only about 3 blocks from the Eastern Market metro stop. Many restaurants nearby. We enjoyed Belga and Ted's Bulletin for breakfasts and Medium Rare for a dinner.

I gave this a 5 because it is exactly as advertised. I got exactly what I thought I was getting and my family and I are very pleased we stayed there. So much better than a hotel! The only caution would be the steep steps down to the apt. If you are weak or unsteady on your feet this is not the place for you.

Meg and Tony were very nice and responsive to the couple of questions I had.

I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to a friend.

Perfect location, great apartment for the price.

The location was perfect. It was a 15 min walk to the Capital building and surrounding sites. You can take public transportation which is right outside the apartment if don't want to walk or take Uber for $6.00 to almost everywhere around the surrounding area.

The apartment was comfortable and had everything you needed. The master bed was pretty comfy and the daybed was also just fine. The only things I would complain about are, I wish the blankets had been washed before we arrived. I'm very fussy about clean bedding and a few of the blankets needed washing. There is a washer & dryer so I did them before using. The other thing was the AC filter was super dirty. I'm sure the cleaners didn't have that on a cleaning list but they should be added. Other than that the place was very clean and perfect for my husband & I. There are a ton of places to eat if you take a left out of the apartment and walk a few streets down. The Western Market is super close and had a nice variety of food to choose from. We recommend this apartment, it would be hard to find a better location and price that close to the attractions. The landlord we met the last day, she is very nice and had we needed anything we were quite sure it would be provided. Have a great time!!

Perfect for active family!

Our fall trip to D.C. at the end of September was perfectly accommodated by this apartment. My husband and I traveled with our 2-year-old son and enjoyed the apartment's location to family friendly Lincoln Park (4 blocks away) and Capital Hill (6 blocks away). We also loved the easy access to restaurants like We the Pizza and Ted's Bulletin. There was also a local organic foods store down the street, Eastern Market 2 blocks away, and just a 20 minute walk to Harris Teeter. We were grateful to be able to park our car and forget about it for the week since traffic in town can be pretty messy.

The apartment was very clean, with enough space to spread out. When we arrived, Meg even had a pack and play, high chair and snacks laid out for our son. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Great Space, Great Hostess, and Great Location

We had such a great visit! This location was ideal being close to parks for my boys and to the metro. The space was so warmly decorated with all the amenities needed and there is so much thought/effort put into making this a good rental for families with small children. Meg is amazing and we will definitely come back to stay again because she really made us feel like we were part of her family!

Perfect place to be

The apartment was perfect for our needs - a great home base for seeing the city, with great food nearby yet on a quiet block. The rooms were adorable, with lots of nice touches for visitors. We took advantage of the nearby organic grocery store, Eastern Market's food and arts, and we really enjoyed the short walk home from the metro - since our feet were tired from walking memorials and museums all day long. If we go back to DC in the future, we'll gladly stay here again!
