About Meg Kelly

My grandparents immigrated from Ireland, bought a house on the Hill, and my family has been here ever since. My friends and I spent our summers running around the air-conditioned halls of Capitol and Smithsonians. My husband and I lived in NY and L.A. (he's an actor, I'm a scriptwriter) and moved back in 2005 to be near my parents. We've loved watching our kids grow up in this wonderful neighborhood. We are on-site to help make your stay a great one.

Meg Kelly purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Meg Kelly chose Washington DC

We wanted to be walking distance from my parents, near Eastern Market and one of the greatest second-hand bookstores, Capitol Hill Books. Grocery shopping at eastern Market, nearby Harris Teeter, and charming corner stores make this an easy neighborhood to live in. We also love using the indoor, public pool one block away, and walking our dogs in beautiful Lincoln Park. Our daughter loves rowing on the Potomac River. Kayaks and other boats are available to rent at Thompson's Boat House. My kids also love hitting a bucket of balls at Hain's Point public golf course. Bike share stations are all over the city, two within a few blocks of our house.

What makes this apartment unique

We love this house for a lot of reasons, historic charm, location, friendly neighbors, and, because its a corner house, the large, sunny rooms. The apartment is English basement, with two or more 3x3 windows in every room. We're around the corner from coffee shops, cafes, Eastern Market and, on weekends, a flea and farmer's market. The Metro, two blocks away, means the zoo, downtown, Chinatown, Reagan Airport, George Washington University and American University are all easily accessible and quick to reach.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Everything was absolutely perfect and you really did go above and beyond with all the goodies and the beautiful Christmas tree for the kids!

Awesome! 4 1/12 stars should be an option...

Two of my three daughters, and I stayed here, and loved it. It was cute, and comfortable, just right for the three of us. All the essentials, plus some were provided. A thoughtful gift basket was even provided. My daughters got me to play a game they found in the bookshelves. (I think it was called Morphology?) I appreciated the variety of reading in them. Due to a miss communication no one had been to the apartment to clean before we got there, and the owners weren't quite ready for us but Meg gladly refunded the cleaning fee while we enjoyed our first real round of exploring. While mildly inconvenient it also led to me discovering how easy it was to explore D.C. from this address, and my daughters getting some time to just plain be kids exploring the outside, without an important destination in mind. (But we did finally make it to the Capitol area!)

A May Stay in DC

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were in Washington for National Police Week and stayed at Meg's basement apartment. It is a great location, within walking distance of the Capital and the National Mall and just one block over from Eastern Market and two blocks from Eastern Market Metro Station. It is also a very short walk to the Marine Barracks, so if you are planning to watch the Marines on a Friday night this is a great location for you. The apartment is large and was very nice for us. A washer/dryer in the apartment meant we could pack fewer clothes. There is a kitchen and a living room, bathroom, daybed room with TV, and finally the master bedroom. This apartment would be great for a couple or for a family with one teenager or maybe a couple of small children. To get to the bathroom from the master bedroom you have to go through the daybed room which would be the second bedroom.

Meg was great. It was very convenient to get into the apartment. One word of warning for persons with disabilities, the steps going down to the apartment are steep and somewhat narrow. One other warning, Eastern Market Metro Station, like several Metro stations in the district does have a number of homeless persons that congregate there. I noticed the same thing at Columbia Heights Metro Station and most downtown stations.

Overall I loved our stay and thought this was a GREAT apartment.

Cozy, comfortable and convenient

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (including two teenagers) plus a small dog used this as home base for D.C. sightseeing. It was very comfortable and larger than I expected. My only suggestion would be to move the wifi over into the middle room so that the signal reaches the bedroom, but this was not a huge problem for us. A nonstick skillet might be helpful as well.

Cozy, close to Metro and the Capitol, excellent experience.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in this cute apartment. Very clean with lots of natural light. It is in the basement of the house, but very nice and well decorated with everything included.

The owner, Meg, was very accomodating and promptly answered questions and was very helpful.

Our stay could not have been better. It started with a gift basket when we arrived with a variety of snacks and goodies. The Metro was two blocks away, the Eastern Market just half block away. It was a quick walk to the Capitol and the Metro just makes the whole city accessible without much hassle.

We were here during a winter storm and used Uber a lot to go places because the Metro at times was a little too far to walk in a 10 degree weather. It turns out Uber was cheaper than 4 poeple riding the metro at times (lowest metro fare is $1.75, times 4 people=$7.00). Uber was less than that in many instances from the apartment to places around the mall, it is worth to check it out and it is very convenient.

Finally, the entire family agreed that we would go back to Meg's if we ever visit Washington again. We loved the city and the stay in this lovely apartment.
