About the property

Charming Lodge, Sleeps 10, Game Room, Outdoor Hot Tub, 2 Full Baths, 5 TVs

Lagniappe Lodge is a charming mountain cabin. We purchased this property in November of 2013 when it was still a private vacation home used only by the previous owner. It remains in excellent condition. A wonderful place to visit any season of the year. Sleeps 10 comfortably. This includes a queen size bed in main-floor master bedroom; a queen size bed and 1 set of bunk beds in loft; queen size sofa sleeper, 1 set of bunk beds and 2 single chair sleepers in downstairs family room. It has 2 decks with views of the mountain, a fully equipped kitchen, 2 full baths, 5 TVs with cable service, internet access, a game room with pool table and bar, and an outdoor hot tub. There is ample parking. The master bedroom has its own jacuzzi.

Start your day with a morning walk surrounded by the beautiful foliage. Spend the day taking advantage of the local attractions (see below) or hiking along one of the stunning trails in Smoky Mountain National Park. Enjoy beautiful sunsets and wildlife while you grill a delicious meal on either of the outdoor decks, or just relax and enjoy an adult beverage in the hot tub.

Activities abound for those of all ages and interests. There are amusement parks, including Dollywood and Splash Town, go carts, mini golf, museums (like the Ripley's Aquarium) dinner shows (our favorite...Dixie Stampede), outlet shopping and churches for all denominations.

If you are an outdoors person, then you will enjoy opportunities for white water rafting, horseback riding, hiking, backpacking, skiing, zip lining, golf, picnics (our favorite spot...Chimney Tops) and much more are readily available. Here are just a few examples:

Dollywood ~ 6 miles

Downtown Gatlinburg ~ 7 miles

Entrance to Great Smokey National Park ~ 8 miles

Ober Gatlinburg (Snow Skiing) ~ 7miles

Pigeon Forge ~ 5 miles

Tanger Outlet Mall (Shopping, shopping, and more shopping!) ~ 9 miles

Five Oaks Riding Stables ~ 9 miles

Adventure Park Zip Lines ~ 9 miles

RainForest Adventures Discovery Zoo ~ 10 miles

Scenic Helicopter Tours ~ 16 miles

About Forrest Forbes

We are two couples....related...a brother and his wife, a sister and her husband. Being from the flatlands of New Orleans we are never disappointed by the beauty of East Tennessee.

Forrest Forbes purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Forrest Forbes chose Tennessee

Having spent much time in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and the surrounding area, we decided that it made sense to purchase a second home here. There are many activities that attracted us to the area. You can stay very busy or you can enjoy the quiet and solitude. The beautiful scenery and surprisingly varied activities are enough to fulfill most anyone's requirement for an enjoyable getaway. Why not purchase a home in East Tennessee? After looking at a multitude of cabins we chose Lagniappe Lodge for its quality, location, and setting. The surrounding foliage is spectacular and the cabin is comfortable and well furnished. We could not be happier with our purchase.

What makes this cabin unique

What truly made us fall in love with Lagniappe Lodge was the opportunity it provides for us and those who share in it to experience so many things....a relaxing morning with a good cup of coffee and chicory, the tranquility of nature, the fun of the local amusements and the pure joy of participating in outdoor activities whether it is a challenging hike along the Appalachian Trail or a relaxing round of golf at one of several scenic golf courses in the area.

Charming, Spotless and Lovely

  • 5 of 5

I had booked the cabin for a reunion with my twin and her family just two weeks after the fires in Gatlinburg, and I was concerned before I got there that it would not be a great stay because of the fires. When I arrived, the cabin was incredibly charming and absolutely spotless, with no view of any fire damage in the vicinity. It's location was superb, being between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. The Christmas decorations were a very lovely touch, and the owners were informative, responsive and helpful in every way. Yes, the drive to the cabin is a little harrowing and vertigo-inducing (even for a country girl from Tennessee and especially in the dark), but take it real slow and you'll be fine. There are plenty of beds to choose from, but only dining space for 4. Kitchen pots and pans could have had a couple more options, but you can make do. Beds and linens were all ridiculously comfy. Also, for those of you who sleep hot or cold, the temperatures within the house vary a good 10 degrees between floors, with the loft being toasty warm and the basement being a bit chilly in the winter. We wanted for nothing really. Fortunately for us, because of the fires, the usual crowds of tourists were nonexistent and we could go anywhere we liked with ease. Unfortunately for Gatlinburg, I'm sure that the loss of tourism during December was even more devastating than the fires. No, it doesn't look like a charred mess. Yes, you will see some burned patches of vegetation and destroyed buildings and a few closed businesses here and there, but for the most part, it's still the kitschy Gatlinburg we all know and love. And they need some tourist dollars to rebuild. This cabin is awesome. I would stay here again. Don't postpone your Gatlinburg trip. Just go.

Owner's Response: Hi Theresa - Thanks for your kind words regarding the cabin. Yes, you do have to take that drive with a bit of caution. I'm glad you enjoyed the beds as we just replaced several of of them. Regarding the eating arrangements, we know we need to address that, but have yet to develop a solution. We'll be up there in early March to measure the eating area and see what options are available at the local furniture stores. Also, thanks for your encouragement to other potential guests. I know the area can use more economic activity. We hope you'll stay with us again next next year! All the best to you and your family! Forrest

Very Clean Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Drive up to the cabin is all paved roads. Cabin is very clean and well maintained. Internet, hot-tub, PlayStation etc...all worked fine. Owners were very responsive and provided clear instructions to the guests where needed. There are few minor issues that I have reported to the owners and hope they will fix these for the next guests. 1. Water catch tab on the master bath shower door is not working properly making the floor mat wet and surrounds slippery. 2. One of the master bath doors would not lock and needed repair. 3. All beds including bunker beds are very nice, clean and comfortable. However the sofa-bed down stairs is not something I would want to count on for sleeping, mattress did not look to be in a good condition. We were only 7 guests so we were fine without the sofa-bed. Overall we liked the cabin for its looks and cleanliness, we enjoyed our stay and we will recommend this to our friends and family.
