Overview

About the property

Charming Lodge, Sleeps 10, Game Room, Outdoor Hot Tub, Weber Grill, 5 TVs

Lagniappe Lodge is a charming mountain cabin. We purchased this property in November of 2013 when it was still a private vacation home used only by the previous owner. It remains in excellent condition with some recent upgrades. The dining area has been improved with the addition of a larger dining table with comfortable seating for six. The kitchen has been equipped with new pots (3, 5 & 8 qt.), pans, electric mixer, a new blender, and other cooking essentials. You can enjoy authentic charcoal grilling on the main floor deck using the new Weber 22" charcoal grill that includes a large food preparation area. The deck is equipped with table and chairs so you can enjoy your steaks, kabobs, or fish outdoors. A wonderful place to visit any season of the year. Sleeps 10 comfortably. This includes a queen size bed in main-floor master bedroom; a queen size bed and 1 set of bunk beds in loft; queen size sofa sleeper, 1 set of bunk beds and 2 single chair sleepers in downstairs family room. It has 2 decks with views of the mountain, a fully equipped kitchen, 2 full baths, 5 TVs with cable service, internet access, a game room with pool table and bar, and an outdoor hot tub. There is ample parking. The master bedroom has its own jacuzzi.

Start your day with a morning walk surrounded by the beautiful foliage. Spend the day taking advantage of the local attractions (see below) or hiking along one of the stunning trails in Smoky Mountain National Park. Enjoy beautiful sunsets and wildlife while you grill a delicious meal on either of the outdoor decks, or just relax and enjoy an adult beverage in the hot tub.

Activities abound for those of all ages and interests. There are amusement parks, including Dollywood and Splash Country, go carts, mini golf, museums (like the Ripley's Aquarium) dinner shows (our favorite...Dixie Stampede), outlet shopping and churches for all denominations.

If you are an outdoors person, then you will enjoy opportunities for white water rafting, horseback riding, hiking, backpacking, skiing, zip lining, golf, picnics (our favorite spot...Chimney Tops) and much more are readily available. Here are just a few examples:

Dollywood ~ 6 miles

Downtown Gatlinburg ~ 7 miles

Entrance to Great Smokey National Park ~ 8 miles

Ober Gatlinburg (Snow Skiing) ~ 7miles

Pigeon Forge ~ 5 miles

Tanger Outlet Mall (Shopping, shopping, and more shopping!) ~ 9 miles

Five Oaks Riding Stables ~ 9 miles

Adventure Park Zip Lines ~ 9 miles

RainForest Adventures Discovery Zoo ~ 10 miles

Scenic Helicopter Tours ~ 16 miles

About Forrest Forbes

We are two couples....related...a brother and his wife, a sister and her husband. Being from the flatlands of New Orleans we are never disappointed by the beauty of East Tennessee.

Forrest Forbes purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Forrest Forbes chose Tennessee

Having spent much time in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and the surrounding area, we decided that it made sense to purchase a second home here. There are many activities that attracted us to the area. You can stay very busy or you can enjoy the quiet and solitude. The beautiful scenery and surprisingly varied activities are enough to fulfill most anyone's requirement for an enjoyable getaway. Why not purchase a home in East Tennessee? After looking at a multitude of cabins we chose Lagniappe Lodge for its quality, location, and setting. The surrounding foliage is spectacular and the cabin is comfortable and well furnished. We could not be happier with our purchase.

What makes this cabin unique

What truly made us fall in love with Lagniappe Lodge was the opportunity it provides for us and those who share in it to experience so many things....a relaxing morning with a good cup of coffee and chicory, the tranquility of nature, the fun of the local amusements and the pure joy of participating in outdoor activities whether it is a challenging hike along the Appalachian Trail or a relaxing round of golf at one of several scenic golf courses in the area.

Hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

I can't give enough thanks to the owners for working with us for a schedule change during the week before our trip. The cabin is extremely nice with a cozy feel and offered a little Louisiana flare that helped make it home during our stay. This is absolutely a mountain cabin, which was a last minute worry that I had previously forgot to ask. The cabin is in very good condition especially considering this a rental property. Usually you will notice signs of wear on rentals, but things were so nice and we really enjoyed our stay.

The beds and pillows were very comfortable and clean.

Owners are exceptional....

  • 5 of 5

While we weren't able to actually stay in this cabin-due to unforeseen water/construction issues- Mr. Forbes was about the most gracious person we've ever encountered. He made sure we got into another cabin and our vacation wasn't interrupted at all. We will for sure be planning another trip to our favorite destination and staying in this cabin. VRBO is the way to go with renting a cabin in the Smokies. Personal touches are a lost art. Thank you, Forest, for your kindness and generosity. It won't be forgotten!

Cozy cabin with everything we needed!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a fun vacation! The cabin was perfect for our needs (2 adults, 7 children) and the kitchen was fully stocked with pots and pans, utensils, everything we needed. The pool table, games, hot tub, and fireplace were all fun to use and the cabin itself is so pretty - definitely exceeded our expectations! As some other reviewers mentioned, there is a huge difference in temperature between the bottom floor and the loft (esp if the fireplace is going). We put the warm natured people downstairs and the cold natured ones upstairs and it worked just fine. But the downstairs did stay very chilly and could probably use a space heater at times (we were there during super cold weather though - it got down to 11 degrees outdoors during our stay) though there were plenty of blankets available to use. It's an easy drive from the cabin to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, just a little crazy getting across the 2 lane traffic. And as Forrest suggests in his email - the second entrance to the cabin is much less steep and preferable than "the adventurous way" as our kids named the first entrance. :) Forrest was easy to communicate with and quick to respond to any questions. I definitely recommend this cabin!

Owner's Response: Hi Elizabeth - Thank you so much for the comprehensive review and kind words. We were there ourselves over the weekend and replaced a some pots and pans and purchased a new blender. We also got a larger dining table that seats 6 as there wasn't quite enough seating in the dining area. Finally, I replaced the grill with a new Weber 22" charcoal grill that has a large food preparation area. If you get some time, check out the new pictures. Regarding the disparity in temperature among the 3 levels, that was something we didn't consider when we purchased the cabin. We ran into this ourselves last winter. My wife, Kathleen, thinks she has worked out a plan in which we'll have the ceiling fans on the main level and loft set to blow upwards, turn the fireplace off, and set the thermostat to 73*. We won't know if that works until next winter. If it does, we'll just post that protocol on the fridge. I wish you and your family and very safe and wonderful summer! Please come back and visit with us. Best. Forrest
