Our 10 Year Anniversary Stay

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here! Lou was so great, giving us info and tips for our time in Placencia. The yard/home maintenance man, Effie, was so kind and helpful, making us coconut water and helping us with the bikes. We took the bikes out every day just riding around the cute town, picking up ingredients for fresh Pico and shopping for souvenirs. The people in town were great and the restaurants were phenomenal! Try Omar's, the Shak, and Wendy's. We even were able to catch the Bronco's game at Tipsy Tuna.

Lou's house was clean and simple and it provided everything we needed. We spent most days in beach chairs swimming and reading, returning to the house in the afternoons to nap and read in the hammocks. She even has a tv with several channels if you just want to spend a night in. The house stays cool with the ocean breeze and lots of overhead fans. There's a washing machine downstairs if you need to catch up on laundry.

Our highlight was absolutely the day when Loggerhead Turtles hatched under her deck! We were able to watch them crawl to the ocean! There was over 100 of them! So cool!

We went during the off season so some restaurants were closed but we were still able to find plenty of places to eat. The grocery store is a short walk/bike ride from the house.

We are thinking of coming back here with our three kids next time!

Best Vacation EVER!

  • 5 of 5

All I can say is WOW!! This house is wonderful, Lou and her niece are wonderful. We immediately felt very welcomed into the home and were impressed not only with the location but the view out the back steps. The pictures (though impressive) do not give it justice. We were immediately relaxed. Placencia is a beautiful village with wonderful and friendly people. We never felt unsafe. The waters are warm and the location of the house is on the end of the Placencia sidewalk which is a wonderful little stroll along the beach in between shops and other homes. The house is also located about 700 feet from a grocery store that has a lot of your everyday needs. We recommend strolling into the village and get some fresh produce from the various stands. everyday is something new. The house had everything we needed for our week stay. Lou even filled a large jug with fresh coconut water harvested from the trees in the yard. Yum!

Although it was just two of us, this house would easily accommodate a family, and we plan on visiting again with the kids (crazy thought huh?) If you are going to Belize, go to Placencia. If you are looking for a place to stay in Placencia, stay here! Thanks Lou for a most wonderful vacation!

Return Visit

I stayed at Lou's lovely property in 2015 and booked 6 weeks in 2106 as soon as I got home. The house is delightful. It's comfortable and designed to catch the breeze. Not that I spent much time indoors. The deck is so nice that I had all meals out there where you can see the Caribbean and hear the waves. In the afternoon, it's perfect for dozing or reading in a hammock. And swimming right in front of the house! The sidewalk leads to all the restaurants, shops, fruit stands, and grocery stores of Placencia. It's a pleasant stroll to anything you need. I had guests from 8 years old to 70ish. Everyone loved it there. I also recommend snorkeling at Laughing Bird Caye (Clint is a wonderful guide -- arrange at Miss Lydia's Guesthouse).

Perfect location!

Nice beach house - well equipped, great attentive hosts, and the most ideal location for walking the beach, walking to town, groceries, restaurants and yet so peaceful! The beach/ocean right in front of the house is beautiful - swam in the water every day.

Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband, two teenage children & I stayed here for our first visit to Belize. It was an amazing experience & I'm so glad we chose the Placencia Beach House for our stay. The owner Lou and her niece were there when we arrived & welcomed us with all the info we would need with the house. Miss Lou could be found at any time with suggestions and answers to our questions about places to go & people we might want to contact for sailing or fishing. (This included all the questions I peppered her with via email before we even arrived!)

The house's location on the beach was an amazing view to wake up to every morning. It was a very short walk to the market or down the sidewalk to the stores & restaurants in Placencia.

I was concerned before the trip about having enough warm water with the four of us using a solar water heater (teens take long showers!) - but it was never an issue, there was always hot water available. I was glad to have the washing machine available for use, and the house had all of the kitchenware items needed during our stay. The screened windows with ocean breeze & ceiling fans kept us comfortable during the humid days & there were many afternoons spent on the comfortable hammocks & furniture on the deck.

It was a nice surprise when Lou's landscaper Eppy made us fresh coconut water right from the property. He worked hard & kept the beautiful property immaculate & ready for playing on the beach.

We had rented a car which made short day trips to Cockscomb Sanctuary and the Inland Blue Hole nice excursions, but there is plenty to find to do in town as well.

Every person we came across in Placencia was very kind & welcoming, we hope to come back & would definately stay here again.

From the Owner

This location is the best in the village. Close to all the action, but as private as you want to make it.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Placencia Airstrip at 2 Miles Nearest Motorway : Placencia Road at 0.25 Miles Car: not necessary

The wonderful thing about Placencia Village is you can be as high tech or laid-back as you want. There are computer repair services and internet connections or tranquil freedom from all the technology devices.

Placencia Beach House is located at the north end of the sidewalk, the world's narrowest road, in Placencia Village, within walking distance of all the restaurants, bars, and gift shops. The North end is quiet and private, but near the action. You can party all you want without a designated driver, or lie quietly in your hammock in complete privacy. The friendly villagers speak English and are always ready to lend a helping hand. Fitness training and yoga classes, as well as, spa services are available. You can explore the village on a bicycle or ride up the peninsula for lunch at Seine Bight or Maya Beach.

There are several full-service dive shops that cater to both the beginner and experienced diver. Instruction is available for certification at all levels.

Some choose to simply enjoy the snorkeling. The dozens of offshore cayes (pronounced keys) each have fringed reefs and the Belize Barrier Reef, 18 miles from Placencia, is second to none. Many of the wonders in tropical waters are only one foot below the surface.

Some claim that Placencia offers the world's best fly fishing. The fishing guides were born in Placencia and learned secrets from their fathers that have been passed down for generations. Besides catching bonefish, permit and tarpon, you can troll for kingfish and barracuda, or catch your own bait and simply hang out at the cayes with a drop line.

About 30 miles from Placencia, off the southern highway, is the Cockscomb Basin Jaguar Reserve, the world's first reserve established to protect this endangered species. Don't expect to see a jaguar. but you can go river tubing, hike to the waterfalls at the top of Tiger Fern trail, or climb Victoria Peak, the highest peak in the Cockscomb!

A little further to the north on the Southern Highway, you can visit Mayflower Archaeological Reserve and hike to Antelope Falls or Bocawina Falls, or arrange with Bocawina Adventure Tours to go zip-lining through the canopy forest or repelling down the water falls.

To the south, on the Southern Highway, you can visit the archaeological ruins of Nimli Punit and Lubaantun. During the same day, you can take in the massive cave at Blue Creek Village where Maya artifacts were found by modern archaeologists.
