Thanks to Deborah & Richard!

Great apartment at great price in Manhattan!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent two weeks at this great apartment in Harlem, which is exactly as advertised. Deborah and Richard are great hosts. She is a bit tough but with a big heart, very concerned about our well being while we were in his house. Richard is quite expansive and if you like good music, will have a good opportunity to talk about it.

The apartment is located very close to four subway stations, with several stores, markets and good restaurants on the way. The neighborhood is quiet, with a school on the same street. There is no space for parking, so if you arrive by car, you will need to worry about it (and spend a lot of money). A good tip about car rental is to register in advance at There are several zipcar places near the apartment.

About the apartment, it is important to keep in mind that this is the entire top floor of Richard and Debora's home. They do all they can to avoid being noticed. Me and my wife used to spent the whole day around town, coming back only at night. We did not do much noise while at home. If you are coming in a larger group, you must remember that this is someone else's home. Be respectful.

On the issue of privacy, we had not a single concern. You need to climb two flights of stairs to the apartment. As only the bedroom is fully isolated by a door, we suggest that Richard and Debora think about a wall between the stair in the upper corridor, in order to provide greater privacy to guests, as well as prevent noise from guests to become a nuisance.

The kitchen is perfect with all the appliances you need. Heating was OK for us. The bathroom has a great shower. The entire floor was recently renovated and decorated with beautiful pictures and paintings that refer to black culture. The room is very large with a spacious closet. The living room has a really comfortable sofa bed, where one could sleep for a whole month with no issues. There is a TV in the living room and another in the bedroom, with Warner Cable channels. The apartment was perfectly clean and tidy when we arrived. Clean towels and sheets were provided each week.

We would also like to thank Richard and Debora some small details, but which have made huge difference and made ??us feel really at home: they provided us bottled water, which was not their responsability at all; the wine glasses after only we had asked where we could buy some wine; the directions and tips about the city; and, of course, the roses in the table, which lasted all 14 days.

From the Owner

Our home is sunny, warm and inviting. We fell in love with the short first landing that is unique to Harlem Brownstones. Large sunny dining/living area and spacious bedroom are a gem.
