Eric and Amy Lord
About Eric and Amy Lord
Eric and Amy Lord grew up in southwest Wisconsin, just miles from this property. Eric is a graduate of Ithaca High School, while Amy attended and graduated from Richland Center High School. Like many young adults, they couldn't wait to 'get out of town' after graduation and head to the big city. Well, they headed to the big cities of La Crosse and Madison and currently live in the small community of Black Earth. As they have gotten older, they realize how lucky they are to have the rural beauty of southwest Wisconsin at their fingertips and the big city conveniences of Madison. Eric is a personal training at Core Health and Fitness specializing in corrective movement and injury prevention. He has been voted the 'Madison's Best' winner personal trainer by Madison Magazine. Amy is the Outreach and Education Manager at the Ice Age Trail Alliance in Cross Plains, WI engaging all audiences to hike and enjoy the Ice Age National Scenic Trail that spans over 1,000 miles throughout Wisconsin. Eric and Amy love the outdoors! You will find them hiking and snowshoeing (depending on the season), kayaking and gardening. They enjoy volunteering with the Ice Age Trail and United Way. The long term goal for Akey Valley is to invite guests to not only enjoy country living, but also enjoy planned activities for guests to be active and sustainable.
Eric and Amy Lord purchased this Farmhouse in 2013
Why Eric and Amy Lord chose Lone Rock
A short history lesson: The Akey Valley home was built is 1879 by Lemuel Akey. He brought is young family to the area from Ohio. The Akey family lived and prospered in Richland County for many years and moved to what is now Richland Center in 1890. The house and acreage was purchases by the Pauls family from Lemuel Akey and remained in their family until 2013. The 130+ year old farm house has character around ever corner. There was an addition in 1985 and a kitchen remodel in 2011, and but the true guts of the home remained true to character. As soon as you enter the home, you are in awe of the grander and majestic features of yesteryear. It is a beautiful property and we hope others will enjoy and appreciate the personality it still has today.

Wonderful family time!
Great location for those looking for peace for a large family.
Magical stay at Akey Valley
Eric and Amy were terrific about communicating prior to the visit .
The property is charming in beautiful Southwest Wisconsin.
Farm house was clean and well appointed.
Loved reading some of the history of the property in the binder that the owners put together.
Fantastic to have six bedrooms for the family gathering.
Fire pit was a really fun feature.
Overall, a fantastic place for a family reunion!
We would definitely consider returning as our stay was wonderful!
This is my second time being in here with my family! It’s nice to be around and get away from the city! Thank you Eric & Amy lord for everything! Sincerely Darikhia.
I rented the house for my 31st annual girls weekend. The house was perfect for the 7 of us. All had their own bed to sleep in. There was a large and well supplied kitchen, 2 bathrooms and a wonderful great room to gather in for the long chats. The house had so much historical character and the farm land was so beautiful. The hosts were very good with communicating all the details and answering my questions. The house was very clean when we arrived. I will stay here again when I come back to explore more of Southwest WI.
Nice location at a very rural location on small country roads not very close to the APT theater.
The Akey Valley property is most pleasant & in a most relaxing setting but returning to the home after evening theater via country roads can be rather daunting! The home itself is very warm & welcoming and the owners have managed to update the interior while retaining the 1880 ambiance of the property. The kitchen is extensive and the nice front porch was a great place to sit & read. The bedrooms proved to be what we needed, though two bathrooms for 8 or 9 adults is a stretch. (Apparently, another bath is planned for the 2nd floor where presently there are none.) We did not use the bicycles due to rainy weather but would if we return next year & we were pleased to see them. There was even some homemade jam & a bottle of local wine to welcome us! All in all, a very pleasant & relaxing place for a 3 night Labor Day weekend.
The only negative was having to pay VRBO $100+ to process my credit card for the 3 night stay. Whenever, I attempted to reach the processing firm somewhere in Texas, the email bounced back & I had to deal with Amy Lord who actually knew something about the property because she & her husband own it. The profile listed by VRBO was incorrect as to the number of bedrooms but since it was impossible to contact the agency by email or 800#, Amy had to endure several emails & responded to them quickly & helpfully in every case. Why is there no 800# or other phone contact listed by VRBO? Why is there no email contact?? Again, the property owner was exceedingly helpful, while VRBO took over $100 merely to process the credit card transaction, I can't imagine another resource charging this much just to book a B&B or other rental property for 3 nights. But hats off to Amy Lord at the Akey Valley home!
More room than you will ever need.
Great place, great location. Really nice house with all the accommodations. Really the only downfall that I can say at all is that the upstairs is not air air-conditioned. Window fans only. It was very comfortable when we were there and was no problem at all. Would like to thank the Lord's for a wonderful time.
