Roomy Lakeside Home With Great Views And Minutes From Trout Town USA (Roscoe)

Wonderful! 4.9/5 -

4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths With 1st Floor Open Floorplan And Deck Overlooking Lake

Our lakeside home sits on a hillside overlooking beautiful Tennanah Lake (largest private lake in the Catskills). We love the quiet serenity of being out in the country, while still only 10 minutes from Roscoe stores and restaurants. We enjoy the house in all 4 seasons, but our favorite season is the summer. Nights are usually cool, with ceiling fans and open windows keeping it quite comfortable. We think you'll love falling asleep with the sounds of water lapping at the dock and waking up to great sunrises. Our spring-fed lake is clear and refreshing - perfect for a summer day swim. Look for the eagles that nest across the lake.

Great fishing - Tennanah lake is stocked with bass, trout and perch. We are also minutes from world class trout fishing streams and several outfitters in Roscoe.

Our home is on a hillside, so the great views come with somewhat steep path down to the water. We have a floating dock and the water gets deep quickly. May not be suitable for families with very young children or those with physical limitations.

About the Owner

I grew up on a lake in the Midwest. I loved all the seasons on the lake. We wanted to recreate this experience for our family and have found it with our lakeside retreat.

To die for...

  • 5 of 5

Perfect vacation - way too short. The fire was lovely. Ashamed to say we used all the firehood and didn't need a twig more..

Kids had a wonderful time on the water - views from the deck, to die for. Wish we had gone during the summer.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay - even though it was quite early in the season and a bit too cold to swim, we hope you can come again in the summer and enjoy all that the area has to offer. Thanks! (note: stay date was actually April 27, not May 27).

Holiday on the lake

  • 4 of 5

Lovely spot directly on the lake. Even used the canoe and kayaks the day after Thanksgiving in NY(that won't happen every year).Lots of sleeping space and had not complaints about comfort.

Oven decided not to work on Thanksgiving but we were able to over come that by using the gas grill,a roasting pan and keeping water in the pan. Turned out just fine. Owner was very responsive before we arrived and gave me a credit for our oven issue. All in all a good trip even with the in-laws,etc.

Great place to get away from the busy city

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this house during mid November with a group of 6. The house is exactly what we expected and the location was great. It wasn't too far from the nearby town of Roscoe where we visited the local brewery and distillery. The closest supermarket was only about 20-30 minutes away. There was a hiking trail not too far away and an alpaca farm only about 15 minutes away (which I would totally recommend going to btw).

The house itself was cozy and inviting. We loved the open layout since we cook and the open layout helped make things not feel too cramped when we were all in the kitchen/dining area. The house looks right over the water and the deck itself is in the perfect spot to look at the stars at night. It was a bit too cold to take out any of the available boats, but I imagine that it would have been really nice. The foliage on the other side of the lake is amazing during the autumn season and I'm sure it's great during the warmer seasons.

Overall, it was a great experience and I would recommend this property to anyone looking to get away from the busy city.

Peaceful & relaxing lakeside stay

  • 5 of 5

The home was clean & spacious with a fireplace to keep you warm & toasty on those chilly fall nights! The 2 decks provide breath taking views of the lake and mountains and my husband enjoyed some fishing from the boat dock with the fishing pole provided, while I relaxed on the deck with a book, enjoying the peace & quiet!

Our first visit to Carol's lakeside home will not be our last!

A Beautiful House on a Beautiful Lake

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in Roscoe was wonderful. Tannehah Lake is a quiet beautiful lake with a rather interesting history. According to the locals, a large New York German following used to visit the lake in the 1920s and 30s as it reminded them of the Alps. I’ve never been to the Alps so I cannot comment on the similarities, but the views and the water are wonderful.

The house is sunny and bright and the owners were very accommodating. The house is a bit dated and some renovations, which the owners are addressing, are in order. But everything works and the owners provided everything one needs to enjoy everything the lake has to offer such as fishing gear, canoes, kayaks, and the like.

Roscoe is a bit small, it is not a town with extensive choice of restaurants or activities (there is rafting on the Delaware which is nice, but not exactly white water rapids). However, the locals are very friendly and the scenery is beautiful.

It was a nice week to get away from it all.

From the Owner

Our home has spectacular views from the deck outside the 1st floor. We love watching the sunrises and sunsets from our lakeside rooms and 2 decks. My favorite time of day is the golden hour before twilight, when the hillside lights up with gold and rose. Can't beat relaxing with a glass of wine on the deck before dinner. Tennanah lake is a private lake community with no public access, so it is quiet, even on busy weekends.
