About Robn DeSandres

Trace and Robn DeSandres are longtime residents of the Sierra Foothills, having grown up in the area and lived in Mariposa for the past fifteen years. Trace is a physical education teacher and coach at the local high school and previously worked as a ranger in Yosemite National park for twelve seasons. Trace was born and raised in Yosemite and has a deep love for and vast knowledge of the area. Robn is an artist and all-around creative individual with a great love for books, gardening, and the culinary arts. She worked many years as the local elementary school librarian before retiring to focus on creative pursuits.

Why Robn DeSandres chose Yosemite Area

We love the quiet and beauty of the mountains and the friendly and supportive nature of the people in this community. Mariposa is a wonderful place to live and has so much to offer in terms of outdoor activities, special events, wildlife, as well as rest and relaxation in a safe environment.

What makes this apartment unique

We offer a private entrance and access to a beautifully landscaped backyard. Robin's Nest is part of a California ranch-style home that sits on 1 acre, surrounded by a white picket fence, large sprawling lawn and private driveway. Inside the garden gate you will find an abundance and variety of trees, plants and flowers that will appeal to nature lovers.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for your wonderful hospitality! We had a great time here in Mariposa and in the beautiful Yosemite National Park. It was a great getaway from the busyness of Los Angeles. We really enjoyed our stay here at Robin's Nest. We felt more like we were staying with family or friends rather than a hotel. The place was very relaxing and nice. We had a great time.

Perfect place to stay to enjoy all things Yosemite and Mariposa!

  • 5 of 5

Robn and Trace were fantastic hosts at Robin's Nest! Very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The cottage was perfect and super convenient. We were able to make it to the park quickly, about an hour or so, depending on traffic and the speed of vehicles in front of you, and most enjoyably, a super quick drive into downtown for anything you might need. We really enjoyed all of the information provided for us in the cottage for Yosemite. Even though it wasn't our first trip to the park, we still went through it and found some new and helpful tidbits. I would highly, highly recommend Robin's Nest to anyone looking for a place to stay in the Yosemite/Mariposa area. We are already planning a return trip thanks in no small part to Robn and Trace's generosity and hospitality.

We had a wonderful stay for 3 nights in October. The owners made us so welcome and could not do enough for us. We can't praise this place enough. We would definitely recommend it. If we travel to Yosemite again we would certainly stay here again. Thank you Trace and Robin it was a pleasure meeting you.

A gem in Mariposa

  • 5 of 5

A great place to relax after a full day of hiking in Yosemite. Every detail in the home ensures a delightful stay. The hosts were very kind and accommodating. Wonderful restaurants in Mariposa, plus a grocery store nearby if you prefer to load up on fruits and veggies for your day in Yosemite.

Thank-you Robin and Chase

  • 5 of 5

This was our first attempt at a HomeAway stay and it could not have turned out more spectacular. We loved the privacy at Robin's Nest, but any time we needed anything Robin and Chase were there to assist. The extras that Robin provided were wonderful and the perfect touch. Local coffee and hiking snacks, as well as fresh, locally grown fruit! Not to mention the evening Robin made cinnamon rolls and invited us to join them. Everything was as advertised if not better. The bed was very comfortable and having a living room and kitchen area was perfect for what we wanted to do. Our trip to Mariposa was designed around hiking Yosemite. The Robin's Nest is located right off of highway 140 which takes you straight to Yosemite Village. It is a bit of a drive (45 minutes) on a winding road, but after the first day we had the hang of it and just settled back and enjoyed the wonderful view. Robin also gave us a tip on a little restaurant called the Yosemite Bug which is approximately 7 miles outside of Mariposa on highway 140. We enjoyed it so much we ate there twice coming back from Yosemite. Keep in mind that they do not serve dinner until 6PM so don't try and get there too early, unless you want to sit and relax and play a board game (they have them) or in our case we always travel with dominoes! If you are unsure of the best hikes, Chase can assist. If you can't or don't want to do Half Dome try Cloud's Rest, which Chase recommended to us. Strenuous hike however. We left too late in the day to make it all the way but it was well worth it! Keep in mind that cell phones do not work in much of Yosemite. We did have GPS on our phone available for much of the time which was a big help! We also had a map of California with us which we did have to use. I could go on and on..... Summary: The Robin's Nest is the perfect place to stay in Mariposa! Robin and Chase...thank-you!
