Awesome place!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Costa Rica and we truly fell in love with the place. It was a family vacation to celebrate our daughter's graduation from vet school. Casa Del Mar was just fabulous....wonderful location....gorgeous home....so relaxing. Greg and Gabriel and their daughter Daniella were staying In the home next to us when we were there, and they were great. Very helpful, very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We especially enjoyed the full day Adventure Tour they recommended with zip-lining, horseback riding, tubing, and hot springs.

We rented a car, at their suggestion, and found that very useful as we could do what we wanted and when. Mostly we enjoyed the awesome beach and relaxing on the front deck area of Casa Del Mar. Nicho and Miriam, the two "helpers" were also great. It was so nice to come back in from the beach to find beds made, dishes washed, even clothes washed as well!

We will definitely be back.....thanks for sharing your home with us!

Truly Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you very much for a very relaxing and enjoyable stay! Greg and Gabriela and their daughter Daniella were wonderful. We very much appreciated their recommendations - everything from where to shop, where to bank, which beaches to visit, the best attractions, the best restaurants, etc., etc. Also very much appreciated the recommendations for the massage on the patio and the surfing instructor. We agree with the comments of many others who note that the pictures do not do the house or the beach justice. The caretakers, Miriam and Nicho were super sweet and very helpful. This was our first visit to Costa Rica and we could not have asked for more. We quickly got into a relaxing routine - morning jogs along the beach followed by a quick plunge into the ocean, then a quick outdoor shower followed by breakfast on the patio. We enjoyed a few excursions, most notably the recommended sunset sail, but what we remember most was relaxing at this lovely home. Thanks again for a wonderful stay!

Fantastic Family Beach Getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

WOW!! What an amazing trip that was! Our group of 9 family members (ages 3 to 60 with a very pregnant daughter-in-law), spent 9 beautiful days/nights at this amazing beach house. Our family highly recommends this place. Not only is the house remarkable, but it was truly a beautiful experience working with the terrific team supporting this residence. On our first call, Greg was so passionate about his beach house and CR and we were only researching!

Then we met Miriam and Nicho (caretakers) on our arrival! They were just as passionate as Greg! Interestingly, they spoke almost zero English and our group only knew a few Spanish words, but through their enthusiasm/warmth, we communicated with no misunderstanding. They are simply wonderful people! And so is Damaris who was outstanding at cleaning and doing our laundry. These folks are humble and always had a big smile on their faces. There was no “sour” service people here as is not unusual on such trips. Our contact was less with Erik, the night guard, but he was also very pleasant and respectful.

We also met Gabriella and Daniella (Greg’s wife/daughter). I still fondly recall the few times they stopped over and we sat on our beach porch and it honestly felt like we were catching up with old friends!

We are thankful we took Greg’s recommendation and worked with Gabriella in arranging 2 rental cars. She bailed us out more than once…these agencies really try to suck every dollar out of you (Greg can tell you more about this). Daniella was so helpful with planning our trips to the volcano, zip lining, crocodile tour, diving and surfing.

Bottom line, this is a peaceful and relaxing place to stay. Every day felt like we owned the entire beach (there was a handful of folks - locals and tourists). We spent hours on the patio, reading, writing, conversing, or simply chilling and watching/hearing the waves of the powerful Pacific Ocean at work. When eating in, why eat anywhere else but on the patio? Most of us also had great massages from Christina on the patio/beach.

To ensure you make the most of your trip and have a great time, be sure to read and follow all the terrific info and guidance Greg provides about your stay at Casa and in CR. It was invaluable to us, especially being our first trip there.

Our family would most definitely return to CasaDelMar! Thanks Greg, Gabriella and team for helping us create wonderful family memories that we will carry for 2 lifetimes like my brother said!

Some Good / Some Bad

  • 3 of 5

I am active duty military so I saved for a few years to be able to take a vacation in Costa Rica with my family of five. A few other family members flew in so there were 11 of us staying in this home for a week (5 children) and we split the cost by person. Here are the good points: The owners were very helpful during the rental process and assisted in booking our rental car and a one day trip to Rincon De La Vieja (awesome experience). The caretakers were there to meet us and did a nice job during the duration of our stay making sure the place was clean and we were cared for. The location of this home is spectacular. It sits right on a beautiful stretch of beach and is a 20 minute drive from the small town of Tamarindo. The beach was wonderful. The children spent the days boogie boarding, playing the in surf, hunting crabs and exploring. Adults lounged in the hammock, took walks or read books under the shade of the palms. Now for the bad, this house is not meant for 11 people. Only two of the bedrooms are air conditioned. The third "bedroom" is actually a loft with a few beds and little else. There is no privacy, air conditioning or place to store your clothes. It has a banister overlooking the rest of house versus a wall so you need to change clothes in the small bathroom to avoid giving the rest of the house guests "a show". Since I traveled with a family of five I drew the short straw and we slept in the loft. It was hot and stuffy, which is fine if I was paying a college fraternity rate, but I wasn't. As for the rest of the house, there is limited table space for 11 people to sit/eat at. The advertisement mentions additional seating out side but there isn't sufficient lighting so we had to cram inside at night or eat in shifts. In addition, the house is in need of some refurbishment. We had to call Nicho because using the microwave and coffee maker at the same time would trip a breaker and he would have to come reset it. This happened at least 4 times. Finally, the cook-ware is "weathered" and barely adequate if you plan to cook meals on a regular basis. (The outdoor BBQ grill was fantastic). So, it closing--we had a great time--the location is unbeatable and the people associated with the house are kind and professional BUT for the money you can do better and this house is NOT meant for 11 people. It sleeps 6 comfortably with 2-3 kids in the loft if they don't mind sleeping in the heat.

Owner's Response: It’s impossible to please 100 % of your guests all of the time but we have come exceptionally close over the many years we have been renting our home. We were very disappointed to hear that our home did not live up to your expectations but great to hear about your positives experiences during your stay with us. We have had extreme drought and heat that is well above the normal for our region, we feel terrible that it affected your stay. We do not advertise the loft bedroom with air conditioning and had no intention of misleading you, we have had many groups of 11 people over the years that were very content with the loft bedroom, kids love the atmosphere of the loft bedroom and it has has ceiling, floor and wall fans. You mentioned the loft bedroom had no privacy, yes a loft bedroom has less privacy than standard bedrooms but unless you are standing against the railing looking down into the living room no one can see you in the beds or changing your clothing. Our dimly lit ocean front terrace is required by our National Park to protect the nesting of the Leather Back turtles and 2 other species that nest on our beach throughout the year, white light can severely affects the nesting process of the turtles, we explain this to our guests and almost allways they accept the lighting because of it’s positive impact for the turtles. We eat almost all of our dinners on our ocean front terrace next door and have the same yellow lighting, we agree it would be nice to have more light outside but the yellow light has never affected our meals our enjoyment of our oceanfront terrace in the evenings, we feel it is a reasonable inconvenience to protect the turtles. We apologize if we did not inform you about the lighting when you arrived and thank you for bringing the terrace lighting to our attention, we are currently adding a notation to our checkin instructions so our guests will surly be informed about the terrace lighting. We have 2 tables side by side on the oceanfront terrace with 8 wide arm chairs and 4 more comfortable arm chairs around the dining table that faces the oceanfront terrace tables & chairs, we have never had a complaint about the seating which is adequate for 12 people. We have 80% occupancy throughout the entire year and a large percentage of our clients return again within 2 years plus many of our new clients that have been to Costa Rica several times and choose to rent our property speaks for itself. Best regards, Greg & Gabriela

Extraordinary villa on the beach!

  • 5 of 5

Brought our son and two other high school seniors here for Spring Break. If you are reading this review, I can honestly say, Look No Further! Awesome home, best location, top notch service from home owners, their daughter and all the staff. We were unsure of exactly what to expect when we arrived, but can not tell you how thrilled we were when we were greeted at the gate. The beautiful front porch looking out to the water is gorgeous. The house was perfect!! Four bathrooms, a well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and air in the bedrooms. We ended up finding the grocery (with Greg's excellent directions) and cooked in for a number of meals. We had the beach almost to ourselves in the morning for our walks looking for shells and snorkeling in the tide pools. This was our second trip to Costa Rica. We wanted to be on the beach so the boys could swim, surf, etc at their leisure. They rented boards from the owners. We had them available all week, it was great! We were all able to swim multiple times a day. We brought hammocks and hung them in the trees right outside our front porch. Sunsets were breathtaking.

We were able to set up ALL our extra activities with Danielle, the owners daughter. My husband and I had massages on the deck (really nice). We took the boys on a tour that included zipline, tubing, rappelling and soaking in natural pools. We spent some time in Tamarindo for dinner and shopping, but all of us preferred our tropical paradise at Casa Del Mar.

As an extra, Greg and Gabriella sent us detailed maps and suggestions for tours, etc. They helped us get an amazing price on a car rental for the week. They have scored reliable, friendly and courteous staff that add so much to the week. We felt safe and secure. We want to say Thank you again and again!!
