I have found so much pleasure and meaning in nurturing a community of 23 incredible, unique and comforting neighbors. I have completely changed the way the building looks, feels and even functions! I am so proud of the camaraderie our residents have and the compassion they feel for each other. Every guest that I have hosted (whether it be for days or years), has always been so happy with their experience among the charming gardens, cozy grounds, warm people and quality management of our home.

Wonderful stay

My family and I stayed here (2 adults and 2 kids), and this rental was awesome. Centrally located to city, beach, north park (restaurants, breweries, shopping). It was a quiet neighborhood (and friendly neighbors) plus easy pool access. My kids loved it. Check-in was easy and the home was very clean and stocked with towels, plates, cups etc. The only downfall was the Internet/cable. It didn't work after several attempts to reset and the rental property contact was going to send someone out but our trip wasn't long enough to see that through. Otherwise a great place to stay!

Not a family neighborhood and owner didn't provide access to house until 9:30pm!

Owner didn't provide access info until too late so were forced to find a different place to stay on the fly! We paid in full ahead of time, and owner refunded 40% of our deposit.

Owner's Response: Hello Gabe, I have on our records that you made your last payment a day prior to your check-in date (when its due 15 days prior to check-in). Regardless, at that time you should have called us or VRBO for access info, if you were unable to locate it, being it was so close to your check-in date. Our policy states that we do not refund your deposit for cancellation less than 30 days away from your check-in date. The fact that we were made of aware that you didn't stay in or unit until after your check-out date made it even hard to return half of the payment (making it impossible for us to rent out those days).This was past the refund stage. These days were blocked out for you and you were given access to the unit on the day of your check-in. I also show in my records that a welcome email was sent out to you the day of check-in early in the morning which stated the following: "Now that your trip is almost here, you may have some new questions about the vacation home you booked, such as; how do you get there from the airport, where should you eat, what the best spots are to explore near by? Good news: information about your rental property is available online and accessible anytime. Whether you’re on a smartphone, tablet, or computer, you can click below to see everything you need to know about your reservation, arrival information, check-in codes, directions, and more, as well as recommendations on which restaurants, activities, and events to check out during your stay." The email that was sent at 9pm later that day were additional instructions, but check-in info is available to all of our guests as soon as this welcome email goes out. As a courtesy we refunded you back half of the amount we (as a host) are paid. We wish you the best.

More pros than cons

The condo itself was VERY nice, comfortable and very well appointed. Check in and out was very easy and I appreciated that very much. The beds were very comfortable and the bunk beds and pull-out were full size.

I would have given it 5 stars but what was lacking was parking. We arrived at midnight and since we were unfamiliar with the area and could not find parking, my husband ended up staying at a hotel for a couple of nights. Trying to find a hotel room at that time of night when you've just traveled across the country was very stressful. After scouting the area over the next day, we found that there is parking available in front of Edison Elementary school which is one block away at 35th and Polk.

The night that we arrived, the area looked a little rough to me, but daylight revealed a very quiet and peaceful working class neighborhood. Twice we enjoyed authentic Mexican fare at Super Cocina on University Avenue between 36th and Cherokee. Excellent food - I highly recommend it!

If you head the other direction towards North Park, you will find an eclectic area with eateries galore. Though it is a little farther to walk to, you can easily take an Uber there.

That being said, I think that Uber would be the best way to go if you don't want to rent a car and avoid the parking hassle. The cost was very reasonable from the airport. The condo is inland and a bit of a distance from downtown San Diego, the Embarcadero, etc. If you are needing to get somewhere on a schedule, you will need to factor in freeway traffic which tripled the travel time during rush hour.

Awesome stay as first time VRBO user.

This place was awesome and exceeded our expectations! The only thing we would change next time is to buy groceries before getting to the property as there is no grocery stores around. We found parking to not be a problem, but we were back in early afternoon/evening. My husband who grew up in California said that having to find street parking is pretty typical.

We found the pool, grill, and apartment to be what was advertised. We enjoyed swimming in the pool with our kids as our meal cooked on the grill. It was nice to be able to eat outside at the table provided by the pool. The accommodations and attention to detail inside was great, everything was top notch. We already know we will be back next year!

Inadequate parking and unresponsive property manager

Three days prior to our arrival, we had to reach out to Andrea for instructions to access the property. Eventually, she responded via text. Part of the instructions stated, "Vehicles are to be parked in designated “Guest” parking areas, or in the properties attached garage". There is no such thing, and we had difficulties finding a parking spot on a Sunday afternoon. Called, left voice messages, and texted Andrea - she never responded. I was able to reach Damaro eventually, and he made an exception to help us with parking. Although this residential community may be somewhat secured, parking on the street is definitely at your own risk.

This unit is clean, well-stocked, and comfortable. Keep in mind that this unit does not have a central a/c system. To cool the living room area, we were advised to turn on the a/c in the rooms and open the doors. There were a few flies that came in whenever we opened the doors.

The communal areas looked abandoned with cobwebs near the entrance gate/stairways and the pool had (what looked like) rust at the bottom.

I would not recommend this vacation rental.

Owner's Response: Hello Lilian, I do apologize for the late email with instructions, I do recognize that I sent them a bit later than I usually do. VRBO is also great, because you can always reach out to them when you don’t hear back from the owner. I do appreciate you reaching out when you did not receive instructions; It is unfortunate that you misunderstood the instructions which clearly stated there was only street parking. If you are not okay with urban neighborhoods and parking in the street, then this is clearly not the rental for you. In the future I would recommend thoroughly researching the neighborhood prior to committing to a rental. I do recall both the manager and I responding back to your call. You left me a voicemail and I responded. We take pride in our rentals and strive to keep our rentals feeling and looking great so that our guests can enjoy their vacation with us. There is no rust in our pools, not sure what you are referring to? Our pictures are very accurate with the state of the rental. I do appreciate you highlighting the good aspect of the rental. Perfect vacation

Andrea's emails were prompt and courteous. The on-site mgmt Damaro was friendly and helpful. The unit was clean, well stocked, and roomy. One guest was a bit nervous about being only a couple of blocks from a busy street with lots of liquor stores but the area around the unit was definitely a residential neighborhood and the security was complete. We really enjoyed the pool area and the greenery in the enclosed courtyard. I would only make one suggestion, the room with the bunks needs a comfortable chair. The bunk above is too low to allow you to sit on the lower bunk while dressing and putting on shoes. Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
