Why John Saunders chose Cesseras
With a French wife and children we travelled many times to the Minervoius camping at first then staying in gites. I fell in love with this lovely region and eventually came here to life full time. Something I've never regretted!
What makes this House unique
This is a typical French house, inside the old walls of the château that I fell in love with one holiday. The little lane leading to the house was between the ramparts and the château wall and is more or less pedestrianised, there is no circulation of traffic. Don't expect a 'Disney' style château, things are simple here and this house is just one of the many cut into the walls. There are only four houses on the other side of this little street and one (me) on this side. We have tried to keep the ambiance of this old house and so have renovated to provide most conveniences without loosing its charm. If you like modern houses this isn't for you, if you like to experience French charm, quirky, intriguing, old stone walls, old tiled floors, calm, privacy with beautiful countryside starting within just 2 mins walk then this is for you. Don't forget your camera, walking shoes and maybe your binoculars as there are plenty of birds of prey, wild boars etc. around the gorge of the Cesse river behind the village and lots of lovely walks (guides provided and internet links). Getting out and about is what makes this region for me

Spring time in Cesseras
We have just returned from ten days holiday in this property it was amazing. Everything you would need for your holiday in France. If you enjoy walking or cycling the surrounding area is very good lots of small villages.
Thank you for staying with us. So glad you enjoyed your stay, you certainly had wonderful weather. Thanks for cleaning the gite so well and i hope you had a good journey home.
This is a charming home providing a very comfortable and convenient place to stay in a lovely area.
This cottage is large enough for a family with 3-4 children or perhaps two couples with 2-3 kids between them. One bathroom. Separate loo.
Very well equipped for a comfortable holiday. Good generous living spaces, particularly in the warmer months as the patio would come into its own for shared meals. Kitchen facilities good. Good heating including the wood fired heater. The cottage is very attractive, quirky (in a good way) with plenty of character. It feels welcoming and homely. Very clean.
You do need to park in the street that runs one over from the cottage. This is not a problem but be aware that you may not be able to drop your luggage to the door.
John was very welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable about the region. He was an excellent host.
Cesseras is small but beautiful and full of interesting nooks and laneways. Only one shop but this has most of what you need. One cafe with surprisingly good quality and economical meals - don't be put off by the low key appearance. British pub style but better than anything we actually had in a British pub!!
We used this as a base to visit Minerve and Aigne but there is so much more to see in this area. Great restuarant in Aigne called La Cagarole.
Highly recommend this as a holiday base. We loved it.
Thank you for this review. I am so pleased you have appreciated the Gîte and the area. I came here 25 years ago and haven't moved, so I know how lovely the region is. This is a wonderful area for walking, my preferred method of discovery. Over the years I have walked and colleted many interesting walks in the area and you will find a selection of these printed and plasticised in a folder in the Gîte. With smartphone and GPS I have now many more ready to be shared with the lucky guest who uses this format, and am in the process of cataloguing and uploading for easy access. A bientôt fans le Minervois and Gîte "Les Volets Verts" at Cesseras
Relaxing stay in a very peaceful small village
John greeted us very friendly. He is an uncomplicated and very nice host and landlord and we felt very well cared for. The house itself is absolutely what the ad promises. We (parents and three kids) recovered well there. The surroundings are very beautiful, although it is a pity that the village bar has closed. So you have to drive to Olonzac to get among people. All in all, a very good experience with a top price-performance ratio.
The France we wanted to find... and found!
Fantastic part of the country and beautiful village. Just needs a bar (that’s open!). Maybe I’ll go back and open one myself! Picture postcard cottage with a wonderful terrace in particular. We enjoyed the absolute tranquility of the place.
