Lovely, relaxed summer place for our family group
We arrived in bunches from many different places, and Régis was very helpful in getting us settled in. He lives right next to the big house, and is always about gardening, repairing or improving the property, so it was easy to find him to ask about extra sheets or towels. We were the first guests of the season, so the house was musty upon arrival, but once the windows were opened, the smells disappeared. We found all we needed to cook our sometimes complex meals from ingredients found in the local markets. Most evenings the 10 of us ate outside at the long table, but there is an even longer table inside in the dining room, and a big farm table for about 8 in the kitchen. The saline swimming pool was an amazing plus. It's shared with another smaller gîte, as is the pingpong table, but it was always possible to find time alone when wanted, and having a child or two around was great for those we brought. The house faces the Château de Fénelon, which is about 5 km away by car, and it dominates a hill in the small hamlet where it is found. There was a dépôt de pain, small grocery store and post office within walking distance in Calviac, along with a Sunday morning market. The view of the stars is amazing. We were mournful about leaving everything, except perhaps the mosquitoes. You are close to nature (forest, orchard, fields, cows, ducks, geese, river) and it's a paradise for a child.
