About Virginia Platt
Although I currently live in Houston, Marfa will always be called 'home'. I attended elementary and junior high school in Marfa. Our family took frequent trips to Big Bend, Presidio and Ojinaga. On several occasions, we viewed the lights, visited the Mc Donald Observatory and Indian Lodge. I have many happy memories of Marfa, especially the friendly people and the delicious Mexican food.
Virginia Platt purchased this House in 1973
Why Virginia Platt chose Marfa
Mi Casita(my tiny home) has been in my family since 1973 and has served as a home for several tenants during the past 40 years. A couple of years ago, I decided to remodel it and use it as a vacation home for family and friends. I travel from Houston three or four times during the year to enjoy the beautiful weather Marfa offers and catch up with old friends.
What makes this House unique
The uniqueness about this property is that the inside buildout was performed by three women, my sister-a USDA inspector, my friend-a school teacher and me-a banker. Before each phase, we sat around and watched You Tube videos. I have a true appreciation for contractors and carpenters after this project. I am in love with Mi Casita. As my guests, I hope that you feel that this is your home also.

A Welcome Respite
Mi Casita makes a great basecamp for discovering the area.
The owner has done a wonderful job in creating a cozy and welcoming home away from home experience.
A warning to light sleepers, you will hear the train that runs through the town but the noise turns into a lulling calm that helps you sleep.
Virginia, thank you for allowing us to experience your Casita. We enjoyed the back deck, the home, the history.
Charming and Clean Home
Everything was perfect-loved our stay. Just sorry the trains kept us awake at night.
We had a great stay in Marfa. The house is just as seen. So much better than motel. We would visit again if ever that direction!!
Mi Casita - Marfa Oasis
Mi Casita was perfect for doing some day trips in the area and close enough to the sites and eateries in Marfa. The large backyard was a green oasis for my dog. I enjoyed siting on the back porch in the evenings and even savored some fresh pecans from the large tree by the porch. The house is very clean and had everything I needed to feel at home. Great place to stay.
Perfect for 2.
Super clean, neat and tastefully decorated. We loved the fully fenced in yard for our dog, and she loved the lush grass. I made sure to clean up after her. Only drawback was the freight train just beyond the back alleyway; it was very loud and fast and passed by several times during our stay. Virginia stocked the kitchen with coffee, several small appliances for our convenience, and left a welcoming card and bottle of wine. Super convenient to downtown Marfa, about a half mile away.
Marfa light festival
We arrived late evening at the Casita and were pleasantly surprised by the little cabin. The back yard was huge and the setting area quite comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with small appliances, ice maker, and everything needed to make the stay just like home. The Marfa lights festival was great and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. Highly reccommend Marfa and the Casita for a relaxing getaway.
Marfa is a small town without traffic lights. Most destinations are within a couple of minutes of driving time. Shopping, restaurants, art galleries and bars are within walking distance or bike riding is also preferred option. Marfa is very safe and full of friendly people.
For your convenience, a welcome packet containing information about Marfa, things to do and places to eat will be provided to you.
