About Barbara Gimlin, Owner
I am a biologist and am self-employed as an environmental consultant. I enjoy sailing, skiing, scuba diving, bicycling, hiking, and just about anything outdoors. I'm happy to share local knowledge on where and how to dig your own clams or catch your own crabs and can even help supply you with the equipment needed, given enough notice. I enjoy meeting travelers passing through the area and strive to make their time in the Coos Bay area extra special. I have had rentals for over 25 years and even ran a small side Bed and Breakfast for several years out of our home in Girdwood, Alaska, from 1995-1999. In Coos Bay, I have converted all the apartments in the house to furnished vacation rentals. This is not a place to host parties or events, as it is a quiet, professional building largely occupied by traveling medical professionals. It is a comfortable, quiet place to stay on a great historic street within 6-8 walking distance to downtown Coos Bay.

Why Barbara Gimlin, Owner chose Coos Bay
The apartment is located in a house built in 1912 on historic 5th Street in Coos Bay. It's a historic residential street lined with large old homes that are beautifully kept. It is walking distance (7-8 blocks) to many restaurants in downtown Coos Bay, along with the bayside boardwalk, art museum, pubs, and the historic Egyptian Theatre.

A lockbox code will be provided to guests for access, and it will be located on the front door. All apartments are non-smoking, although the lower back patio is a designated smoking area. Guests are asked not to smoke anywhere else, including near the front entrance. The back patio is rarely used for smoking and hopefully this isn’t an issue if you choose to use it for non-smoking. Pet Owners: Your pet should have been pre-approved for your stay. If your pet gets up on furniture you are asked to bring your own sheets and blankets to cover the furniture your pet may get up on. Additional cleaning fees may apply if your pet’s stay requires extra cleaning. Check-in is any time after 4 p.m. If you will be arriving earlier, please let me know and I will try to have it ready sooner. Check out is at 11 a.m. unless you have made other arrangements. Please return the keys to the lockbox on the front door.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date. 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
Lovely quaint appartment
It was so nice to stay in an apartment rather than a hotel! I was able to have my step-family over. Having a wonderful living room and a great kitchen made this perfect. Waking up in the morning, making breakfast and sitting down looking out over Coos Bay and the hills across the bay was great!
Perfect place to stay.
Clean, comfortable, and quiet. Great location, just a few minutes drive to all the places we wanted to visit.
Great little place in the heart of coos bay!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Everything you needed was there . Barb was wonderful , we would definitely book again and recommend to our friends! Thank you barb for making our stay in Oregon so easy!
Uncomfortable, dirty, no parking and bad area of town.
I wasn't expecting luxury but at least a couch that wasn't broken, and big enough for two small women to sit on. The entire place was dirty and the porch smelled like smoke. The bed was a so broken down you could feel the springs. The carpet torn and filthy, we booked for 3 nights and left after the first night choosing to lose the money rather than stay on more minute!! Save your money!
This review is completely inaccurate and unfair. The apartment is located in one of the safest and best neighborhoods in Coos Bay. The couch is not broken and is less than a year old. The carpet is not torn and dirty and I personally inspected the apartment before the guests arrived and it was very clean and polished. The bed has a two-inch memory foam topper on it, and there is no way the guests could feel any "springs"--it doesn't have any springs in the mattress under the memory foam. The guests did not check out after the first night. In fact, there were people in three cars that abruptly left the apartment after they were reminded about checkout (which had passed). It was clear more people were staying there then the number registered. They left a big mess, including using all the extra bedding left for the couch (futon). Something was going on with these disrespectful guests, and I don't know what it was, but I was in the apartment below when they all checked out and heard them coming down both the front and back stairs (they had parked both on the street and in the parking area in the back).
The photos of the apartment speak for themselves and are up-to-date and accurate. In addition, cleaning is a top priority which I actively oversee. It is very disappointing to receive such an unfair review when I work so hard to provide quality lodging.
Clean, comfortable, and roomy - thanks!
Perfect location for our needs
Second time we've stayed in one of Barbara's apartments. Great location, close to town, apartment had everything we needed and Barbara is so fast to communicate! We again were welcomed with farm fresh eggs and a homemade treat to enjoy, loved that! Thanks Barbara! We will be back.
5th Street is one of the original residential streets in Coos Bay and is largely composed of grand homes built in the late 1800s/early 1900s. It is not a through street, so traffic is minimal. There are large trees and residents in the area frequently use the street for walks. It is 7-8 blocks from downtown Coos Bay (walking distance).
