It has beautiful countryside setting, water access, and enough interesting things to do in the area for exploration and entertaining. Overall pretty good spot..
Nice property, good location. My impression viewing it online was that it's directly on the water, however steep narrow path between other homes was difficult to navigate, especially for older people and most likely if you have small children.
Some rooms need updating, some are cramped with extra daybed to have enough for 10+ people. Not a great smell in the basement bedrooms, may have something to do with the humidifier. Overall though had a great time, and the entertainment spaces were excellent. Host kept in contact to make sure we had what we needed and we're satisfied with the property. Will rent again with smaller group, but as is not sufficient or comfortable sleeping conditions for 13 adults.
Weekend with friends
This home was the perfect escape for our group of friends. Open living/kitchen area allowed us to easily share meals. The large deck, yard area and access to the lake provided the group with a wide range of activities. Thank you for hosting us, we had a fabulous time!
Great Little Hideaway
We stayed at this location for a week in and around NYC. This was a great little hideaway away from the city. The house and location were great. Listing was just as described and owners were excellent with communication. Would definitely book this again!
Dear Phoebe and group,
Thank you for the great feed back and for choosing our house for your special "get away"! We feel the same about this house because It's so different from the city yet convenient to all. We really appreciate that you took care of the house and left it clean. Hope you enjoy the rest of the summer and Please come again!

Review of property
The property provided us with a wonderful week away. However two things would have made it much better. There was an on going issue at the front door on the deck with bat droppings right as you stepped in or out. The beautiful vista from the dining and living room could have been featured much better if the windows were clean. Thank you .
Good for a group of adults - Not so much for kids
Probably a nice place for an adult crowd. Not so wonderful for children. Several dogs roam freely in the neighborhood and onto the property. We did experience a significant dog fight on the street, in front of the house. Certainly would not suggesting letting kids play in the yard without supervision, to deal with dogs. The house is OK, reasonably fit condition; but presents some hazards for young children. Open tread stairs, sharp stone fireplaces, exterior decking with poor guarding and access configuration. It appears that much of the maintenance has been performed by a non-professional in a manner which is serviceable but not quite correct. The lake is very weedy and not real inviting for swimmers. Wading out in the water is nasty. All three 'beaches;' are very poor quality and quite uninviting. Access to the lake for a non-resident boat is impossible. The "Mariana' is available only to lake association members - closed to all other than lake property owners. It appears that the recent dam project has had a significant impact on the lake. Perhaps the quality of beaches, quantity of aquatic weeds, and swimming will improve with refill of the lake.
Our guests's feedback is important to us so we feel it's equally important to respond to you.
Regarding "not wonderful place for kids": You indicate your kids did not feel wonderful because of the “safety hazard”. In the past years we have had numerous renters with kids of all ages, but never had issues or concerns about kids' safety. We even provide door/stair guards and life jackets for small children in case our guests need. Many people take their children to the countryside for a different experience than a city setting, a more open, close to nature environment, and they provide adult supervision accordingly. Our neighbor's dogs are also country dogs typically not tied up or fenced in at all times. Our neighbors are responsible dog owners and there has never been any incident. We also communicate to neighbors to call back the dog so not to disturb our guests, and they have been doing so.
The "open tread stairs, sharp stone fireplace" are the features of a "Chalet" style house, which many of our customers found attractive. Again, this is the only time we received a negative opinion about them.
Regarding "exterior decking ": The deck is professionally designed and built to safety codes, and recently refinished by a reputable contractor. Obviously you do not like the design and characters of our house, but it doesn't make it "unsafe or poor", and certainly not less wonderful for most of our renters. This, we feel, is not fair to us and the house.
Regarding "weedy lake", "nasty water", "poor beaches": Whaley lake is a very beautiful lake... and its beauty lies in its very true nature form. If you compared it to a commercialized tourist spot that's wrong. Guests can view the posted photos of the lake and beach to see the true picture. Due to the dam project the water level was low for a year, and came back to normal at the beginning of 2019. Please read previous reviews of 2019, our guests have swam and fished with good experience.
Re "Marina" and "non-resident boat access": The marina is privately owned & closed for this year. This is clearly stated in our property information. We have communicated with you in details about boat launching and provided info. of private launching service. Our house is not rented with guaranteed boat launching. We provide 2 canoes.
In general, we always do our best and hope our guests to be happy. In this case, we feel there is a mismatch of the house and guests and an unfair judgement of the guest.
What a weekend!
Thanks Connie for quick communication and for accommodating us. We had 14 guys, we really enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and spent most of the time on the deck overlooking the lake. The boats were a fun time and we will definitely be back!
