Two couples, two weeks. First the "pros": The site of the former watermill couldn't be more charming. The sounds of the waterfalls and birds are delightful, and though away from the tourist action (you MUST have a car) this is pretty convenient for sightseeing and dining. It's a unique home with lots of character.
Cons: There are no supplies stocked for tenants. Bring your own salt & pepper, cleaning supplies, paper towels, other paper products, garbage bags, toiletries, etc. There's a large Carrefours market nearby, but it closes mid-day and Sunday afternoons. Some maintenance issues.
Special note: Owner and her charming adult daughter were extremely helpful when we had a car problem and were stranded at house. They were life-savers for us.
Equipment: note that there is no telephone. If you stay in high summer, note that A/C is only one portable unit on second floor. "Canoe" was not available to us.
The most beautiful sites: castles, prehistoric caves, sinkholes, national museum of prehistory, and many villages classified as Beynac, Belves, Domme, Sarlat are within a radius of 15km.
The house is easily accessible from motorway to Perigueux or Souillac, then the provincial road until Bézenac.
Shopping, leisure and sports facilities are within a few kilometers. One can walk to the Dordogne, which is very close. Two canoes bases are on the other side, and a hiking trail passes a few meters from the house.
