Welcome to Domaine de Codaigues, 15 mins from Carcassonne with its medieval city and airport, 45 mins to Toulouse, and close to Limoux and Mirepoix. Set within 8 acres of unspoilt parkland, the domaine is surrounded by rural farmland, with fields of sunflowers, wheat, corn and vines. There is a large, 7x14m pool, which is fully gated and has plenty of space for sun loungers.
Our gite has been converted from one of the many barns. It was fully renovated in 2015, keeping the charm of the property whilst providing modern and fully equipped facilities. It can comfortably accommodate up to 8 people in 4 bedrooms, one of which is an ensuite. Two bedrooms have king-size beds, one has two single beds, and the fourth has bunk beds. The kitchen is fully equipped, including induction hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, washing machine, coffee maker and kettle.
A wood burner and electric radiators keep the gite warm during the winter months.
The gite enjoys its own private, outside eating area, with BBQ, overlooking the gardens.
All bedlinen, towels, pool towels and tea towels are included in the price, and free Wifi is available throughout the whole gite. For our younger guests we can supply travel cots, highchairs, bathmats, potties, stroller and baby carrier, as well as a large selection of games, puzzles, toys, books and DVDs.
There is ample space in the grounds for children to run and explore, as well as plenty of places for adults to sit and relax with a good book and a glass of local wine. Make use of the 7x14m pool, 14 foot fully enclosed trampoline, table tennis table, swings, football pitch and bikes
Whatever your interest, the surrounding area offers endless opportunities. We are just 15 minutes away from Carcassonne, with its medieval fortified Cite of rampart walls, cobbled streets and countless brasseries and shops. A World Heritage site, this is one of the most visited cities in France.
If you seek more history, visit the large number of Cathar castles in the region. Being at the heart of the Cathar country, this area is steeped in history.
The local countryside is dotted with picturesque market towns such as Mirepoix, Limoux and Revel, all with large weekly markets, and a wide range of bars and restaurants. You can find a market just about every day of the week, and there is nearly always a brocante or 'vide grenier' to browse, where you might pick up a second hand bargain!
Indulge in the local vineyards of Malepere and Limoux, found on our doorstep, or venture slightly further to Fitou, Minervois and Corbiere. This is also a rich area for local gastronomy and no visit would be complete without sampling the famous dish of Cassoulet, which comes from Castelnaudary, 20 minutes away.
Another World Heritage site, the Canal de Midi, can be found 5 km away. Hire a boat at the port de Bram, or walk/cycle along the tree lined banks. Bikes can be hired in Carcassonne or Castelnaudary.
The Mediterranean is just under an hour away. Visit Gruissan, with its picturesque old fishing village, yacht harbour and sandy beaches. Narbonne Plage is also close, as it Leucate, which holds its annual kite/windsurfing world championships. Slightly further afield is Collioure, a picture perfect fishing port with its colourful houses and ancient fort, sitting at the foot of the Pyrenees. You might even venture further and go to Spain. The Spanish border is 1 hour 30 minutes away, and Barcelona is under 3 hours away.
The Pyrenees are an hour in the opposite direction, offering plenty of opportunities both in the summer such as hiking, canoeing, white-water rafting, canyoning and hydrospeed (imagine body boarding down the rapids!). In the winter, the ski slopes are just over an hour away.
There are also lots of lakes in the area, many of which offer man made beaches, pedalos, water sports and fishing. At Lac de la Cavayere, just outside Carcassonne, there is also an O2 tree top adventure course, crazy golf, wakeboarding and giant inflatables on the lake.
Golfing is also nearby at Carcassonne Golf Club.
Toulouse, known as la Ville Rose due to its stunning reddish pink buildings, is 50 minutes away. Considered as one of France's most dynamic cities, a day could easily be spent here, visiting museums, shopping or simply sitting and drinking coffee in one of its elegant squares.
It is very easy to get here, with Carcassonne airport only 15 minutes away, Toulouse 50 minutes away and Beziers 1 hour and 15 minutes away. Slightly further afield are Perpignan (I hour 20 minutes), Montpellier (1 hour 40 minutes) and Nimes (2 hours 10 minutes)
We have been trading now since 2015 and were fully booked for the summers of 2017 and 2018.
