Lovely log home overlooking a quiet cove on Frenchman Bay

Property Details

Updated: Aug 14, 2016
Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 6 Sleeps

Since 2004, Cove House has been a great place to stay when visiting renowned Acadia National Park. The spacious deck gives you expansive views of Raccoon Cove, Frenchman Bay, Schoodic Point and the mountains of Mount Desert Island.

Enjoy Maine's natural beauty and the many attractions it offers while staying in this spotless, comfortable log house that is just right for a couple or for a family of six. Cove House sits on a bluff about 25 feet above the Cove.

The first floor has an airy, open-floor plan - a great room with a cathedral ceiling and two floors of windows with panoramic views. A newly added gas fireplace provides cozy warmth for those cool evenings. Dining area and fully equipped kitchen offers a pleasant dining experience. Two bedrooms - one with a queen bed and the other with two twins, and a full bathroom with laundry facilities complete the first floor.

The second floor contains the master suite with large walk-in closet, king bed, dresser, desk, and even has plenty of room for a crib and pack-and-play, provided as needed. The bathroom has a large jetted tub and separate shower. A loft overlooking the living room is ideal for playing board games, working on a puzzle, a chess match or reading a good book.

A bench and Adirondacks overlooking the water provide the perfect spot to sit in the early morning with a cup of coffee to enjoy the beautiful views and welcome the day. There is access to the shore at one place only to protect the delicate vegetation and prevent erosion.

There is WiFi and a docking speaker for iPads. Children are welcome. We aim for a low allergen environment by keeping the property smoke- and pet-free.

About the Owner

Chris and I had Cove House built in 2004, and did much of the finish work ourselves. In 1997 we moved to Lamoine from the Boston area and have loved every minute of our life here. My mother's family was from western Maine, and Chris had sailed along the coast a number of times. It was like coming home.

Lovely, Comfortable, and Clean Home

  • 5 of 5

The house is clean and cozy, and the renters were delightful. All of the amenities were provided without a problem. There is a beautiful view of the bay where we saw some seals swimming early one morning! Cove house is within driving distance of Acadia National Park. We had an amazing family vacation here and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful vacation filled with hiking, kayaking, and delicious lobster!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review. It means a lot to Chris and me when someone takes the time to write something nice and thoughtful when they don't have to. We're delighted when our attempt to make a comfortable, attractive home-away-from-home is appreciated. We're so glad you enjoyed your visit. Hope you return to this part of Maine. Isn't it lovely? The house is beautiful we felt like our home. The house cherished our moments, memories and the vacation. HIking Vacation

First of all the pictures on the website do not do the Cove house justice! The view of the bay is incredible! The house is tucked way back from the road and the area is so private and quiet! The house is decorated nicely and is extremely clean. The best part about Cove House is that Lynda makes sure you have everything you need from towels and sheets to mustard and ketchup! It's a home away from home! All you have to pack is your clothes! We are a family of 5 with 2 twenty year olds and 1 teenager and we really enjoyed everything the home offered. Our family hiked in Acadia which is about a 30 min drive and easy to get to. The Acadia visitors center, to get your pass, is right on the way to Acadia. We visited Bar Harbor, an easy 35 min drive. The grocery store (IGA) is about 10 to 15 min. from the house. You can stop on the way home from Acadia to grab what you need for the night. We also Kayaked in the bay right from the house. Thank you Lynda, it really was a home away from home for us and we enjoyed our stay!!! We all would love to come back and visit!

Owner's Response: Chris and I were happy we had a chance to meet you when you arrived. We are delighted that you had fun visiting Acadia and kayaking in the Bay. Am sure you did a lot of hiking. There are some wonderful trails and great views, and something for everyone to enjoy. We strive to make Cove House as welcoming as we can - so if you have any suggestions, please tell us. I love that the kids enjoyed it as well. We got the impression that they are very active and love the outdoors, so they probably didn't even miss not having a PlayStation or video games! If there are things that you didn't have time to do, please come visit Down East Maine and us again. It would be a pleasure to have you. Chris and Lynda

The house was absolutely beautiful and exactly as described. It was clean and very well maintained and the scenic view was wonderful. Unfortunately the weather wasn't cooperating while we were there so we didn't get to see any of the wildlife that visits :(

Lynda was great, she responded right away.

The home is tucked away but is convenient to Bar Harbor and the Acadia National Park (about 20-30 mins away) which we visited while we were there, even though someone in town told us people don't usually stay in Lamoine when visiting the area, we were glad we did!

If you are looking for a peaceful retreat to go to at the end of the day, this is definitely it!

Thanks to Lynda and Chris for their hospitality, you were awesome.

Owner's Response: Hello Allie, Thank you for your comments. We do appreciate hearing from our guests as it is one way to know what they liked and disliked and what we can do to make their stay more comfortable. I hope you get a chance to come back to Maine in the near future - during good weather - so you can enjoy all of its beautiful views, hikes, bikes, food and people. It was not usual Maine weather! Absolute Serenity!!

Fantastic! Spectacular!! So happy we chose Cove House! Our family is on a mission to get to every National Park in the United States and with three children ages 7,7, and 13 that can be a difficult task sometimes. When we decided to go to Maine-Acadia Park over Christmas Break we were not sure what we were getting into. We have happily rented from before and decided to try it again. Of course you never know what you may be walking into or if the place you ultimately decide on will be right for you and your family, but Cove House was exactly that....PERFECT! Lynda, the owner was absolutely fantastic to work with. Our arrival date was Christmas day and we of course wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate the holiday season together. Lynda had tastefully decorated Cove House for the holidays and even had a tree up for our arrival. The kids couldn't figure out how Santa knew where to leave our presents!! Cove House had everything we needed which made packing so much easier for our family of 5. Its close proximity to the Acadia, LaMoine State Park and modern conveniences made Cove House perfect for us. We enjoyed hiking, snowshoeing, and spectacular sunrises. We had the opportunity to meet Lynda and Chris when they quickly responded to our need to leave the same morning it decided to drop a foot of snow! Fantastic couple and fantastic neighbors were all there to help dig us out so we could head home! Cove House was spacious, and offered plenty of things to do. We had a great time and look forward to having the opportunity to return in the future!

Owner's Response: Hi Tonya! My first response was, "Oh, how very nice of her!" Thank you for your kind words. Now, it's my turn. You were all terrific. Cove House was neat as a pin when we went in, and you had left us such a nice note and a present to boot! Totally unexpected. Plus you and the kids left us a game for other guests to use. How very thoughtful. It's so nice to have people like you at Cove House. We want you to enjoy yourselves, in pleasant and comfortable surroundings, with everything you need at your fingertips. And we love sharing our beautiful Down East Maine with you. Hope you'll all come back again. Warm regards, Lynda

From the Owner

We decided to build Cove House after several years of cramped conditions at home during the summer months. We felt having a larger house for guests and family gave us the opportunity to share meals and trips to favorite haunts and everyone had a peaceful night's sleep in a comfortable bed. Our children suggested that we offer it for rent to visitors of the park and to families on vacation. It was a success from the get go.
