Bowmans Beach is the quintessential Sanibel Beach, a bright dollop of coast that exudes relative seclusion and quiet breezes, with soft white sand sprinkled with excellent shelling throughout. It's remote in the sense that is rarely feels crowded. The stretch of shore is well protected and preserved. As such Bowman's feels marvelously underdeveloped, even relative to other places on nature friendly Sanibel. Excellent views to the west make for magical sunsets, when the light hits the shells and the sand just so, you'd swear you were in a pastel bonfire.

Our condo is the ONLY one of this wonderful beach. No parking worries, just a short five minutes or so from the condo to the beach.

It’s shells, shells everywhere on Sanibel Island, and one of the best spots to collect is just steps away from your relaxing apartment.

A wonderful location on a beautiful sub-tropical island. The

quiet end of Sanibel, no hordes of condos or people. This is the only condo on the best beach on the island for shells and swimming, experience the REAL Sanibel. Walk across a boardwalk that spans the still waters of a mangrove studded estuary. Canoes are available free of charge to explore this placid bayou, sign out paddles and life vests at the office. Blue herons fish in the shallows and a peaceful silence pervades the water. The beach is uncrowded, peaceful, shared with birds and the water with dolphins. Walk for miles along the pristine beach looking a the fantastic array of shells or sit and soak up the sunshine or swim in the placid Gulf of Mexico. A perfect family vacation.

The pool is very large and heated to 82 in the winter. Half the pool is shallow, great for small children.

The two bedrooms sleep six with a king size bed in the master, two twins in the 'guest' bedroom and a queen size sofa bed in the living room. Each bedroom has its own full bath and are at either ends of the apartment for privacy. Full size walk in closets in both bedrooms.

Free Internet Terminal in the Clubhouse, Wireless access, Free High Speed WiFi in the apartment. Fully air conditioned, heated, and tastefully furnished in island style. The tiled kitchen is fully equipped, including a microwave, stove, oven refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher and a closet with a clothes washer and dryer. All pots, pans and dinnerware are included. The bedrooms have all linens and the master bedroom has a TV. The living-room/dining room has seating for 6+ and a TV and VCR/DVD. New Queen sofa bed and love seat. Beach chairs, umbrella, towels and toys included. Beach wagon to take everything to beach without having to carry bulky items. The building is right next to the pool for convenience. A short walk over a footbridge takes you to Bowmans Beach. Toddler Bed, Pack N Play, stroller and high chair in the apartment at no additional charge

The condo was clean and well appointed for two couples.

This is a good location for enjoying the beach and the federal wildlife preserve. It is also fairly close to the Sanibel restaurants.

Nice spacious place. Beautiful property. But...

We loved the condo. It was very clean. So much room for a family of 5. Everything we needed, dishes pots and pans, towels, beach umbrellas, beach chairs, etc.. Useful stuff we didn't need, high chair, playpin, fishing rods. The property was beautiful. The included kayaks and canoes were fun. Great pool. Wonderful beach.

Now the cons. Several electric outlets don't work. The condo is dated. I didn't care for the white paneling. Doors are old and yucky. Sinks are old worn and dated. The lighting it the kitchen was old drop ceiling acrylic lighting. The biggest problem was we had a problem with the AC leaking water into a pan in the closet. The owner was on vacation and very slow to respond. He told us to have the office call the repair guy or he would do it. The office refused because he doesn't rent through them. We emailed the owner again asking him to contact the repair guy. No response. No response of any kind for the remainder of our stay. We called the repair guy ourselves and everything worked out. Still we were dumping 8 to 10 buckets of water out every day on our vacation for several days to prevent the condo from flooding. The fact that we received no help or response says to me the owner just doesn't care.

Therefore I will not be renting this unit again.

Owner's Response: True, I was renters about the problems out of the country. I did receive an email from these renters about the problem with the AC and offered to call the AC repair if the problem was not resolved. I check email every day and never heard from them again, so I thought the problem had been taken care of. After reading this review I promptly called the AC repair for an immediate service call. Many outlets in the condo are on wall switches and do work if the proper wall switch is used, these does seem to be a problem for some renters as some turn the outlet off on the wall and others at the lamps or other items that are plugged into the outlet. Sorry about the whiter paneling, can't please every one. By the way the kitchen sink is new and I see no need to replace the bathroom sinks. New closet doors are on the list for replacement this fall after season. Again sorry about the mix up with the AC water back up.

Beautiful location

The spacious older unit has a young kitchen and is being further upgraded. We found it clean and comfortable for our March week. We had windows open most of the time, but did need heat one chilly evening--and it heated up quickly. The owner is very responsive. He corrected a dishwasher problem and when he came to assess the issue, he even replenished some missing items. The beach is beautiful--a short walk, across a bridge over a stream, then dunes, then the white sand and gorgeous gulf. Beautiful sunsets! Even with a full complex, we always found chaises or chairs at the well used pool. Tennis courts were busy, as were bbq grills in the evening. The 2nd floor unit is handy to pool, path to beach, office (which allowed printing boarding passes). The covered parking was a pleasant surprise. A benefit to the location was the distance from the crowds, yet handy enough to be within a 15 minute drive to restaurants and shopping. Bring bug spray--southwest Florida is well populated!

Unit D203. Has had some updates could use a few more

Kitchen newly remodeled. Needs new dishwasher, only because of squeaky door.

Bathrooms have had some updating could use some more.

King sized bed is comfortable but hard. Is quite squeaky when used a certain way!!!. Twin beds ok. We did not use pull out in living room but it did not look that comfortable.

Plenty of kitchen and bath supplies.

Property is old but kept up very nice

Pool was warm, clean, and large. More than enough lounges. Very nice.

Walk to beach is short (500 yds). Beach is nice, not great. No bars or much of anything else on beach. If you like quiet it is for you. To the north there are not even any houses on the beach, just natural.

Island anemities are nice but expensive. Some very cool restaurants in Captiva. Traffic is slow. Leave early.

Owner's Response: Happy they enjoyed their stay, and would like to address their concerns. A new dishwasher is ready to go but the kitchen remodel "locked" the dishwasher in place. It will be replaced after the season, the door was lubricated and is somewhat better. The bed is a personal preference, some say too soft and want a board in it and others, too hard, can't satisfy everyone. Sofa beds are never as comfortable as a normal bed, just the way things are made. Sanibel is "quiet," Fort Myers Beach may be a better place for those who want " bars" on the beach, this is not Miami Beach. Sanibel is a quiet natural place and that is what most renters seek coming here. The walk to the beach is only about 125 yards, not 500!!

THe condo was roomy but had several drawbacks.

The place was shabby. Wallpaper was peeling off the walls. There were one windows or doors except the entrance door. We were admonished Inot to touch the thermostat. The apartment got hot and the air was close. We did not realize until we arrived that our unit had no balcony. The was no elevator and there was a long walk and a climb between the parking area and the apartment. The outdoor stairs and upstairs walkway connecting the unit and the ground were very rickety. They felt as if they would not support humans.

On the other hand, the owner was pleasant to deal with by text and phone and the price was reasonable for Sanibel. The beach was nearby but there were no gulf views except at the beach.

Owner's Response: This review proves that you can't satisfy everyone every time. Just read all the recent excellent reviews. First of all the ONLY wall paper in the entire unit is in the bathrooms. The condo has been rented every week since November, due to the "reasonable" rate quoted in this review. There is little doubt that over time the wallpaper in the bathrooms has started to peel. It will be replaced as soon as season is over. Second of all, Yes there is only one door, it is a second floor unit and there are MANY windows in all rooms, not sure how anyone could see only ONE window, just look at the pictures. There is no "admonishment" about not touching the thermostat, the only request is not to set it below 75 degrees in the winter as it can freeze up. Understanding this situation is beyond my comprehension, unbelievable. In the condo description there is no claim about an elevator, balcony or Gulf view. No unit in our complex has Gulf views or balconies. Some units with a screened porch are available at a higher rate. People have asked these questions before booking and they are told the correct answers. The beach is about 125 yards walk from the condo and the car parking spot about 25 yards. How the beach is "nearby" and the parking spot "a long walk," does not make any sense to me. The walkway and stairs were rebuilt a few years ago and are very solid as attested by recent deliveries of granite when the kitchen was remodeled. I contact all renters to check and correct any problems that arise and hope all future renters will keep this in mind and just keep lines of communication open.
