Very Unique!

  • 4 of 5

Our stay here was quite an adventure! It was definitely rustic, as promised, which was fine. We enjoyed the peace and quiet. It's not quite as cleans as the pictures would have you think though. They must have been taken years ago. It was not as clean as we would have liked. There are also lots of chores to accomplish at the end of the stay. The good news though is that we were able to reach the owner and he was very kind and helpful about our request, and followed through as promised. The management company never responded to any questions whatsoever. I also think that if the owner changed to a different management company, he would have much more satisfied guests.

All in all, the stay was not too bad, and again, the surrounding area is beautiful. There are some awesome places to eat about 10 minutes up the road, and the peace and quiet was wonderful.

Awesome Place

  • 5 of 5

Very happy with our Honeymoon stay. Booking was dead easy, comms was excellent and picking up the keys also simple. They state that the place is not a Travelodge / motel and that was the whole point of booking this. It is quiet, comfortable and very homely. Made a lovely log fire to sit around and toast marshmallows and would have no hesitation in returning. It is well equipped with great Wifi. Just wish out stay was a bit longer. Thank you very much and would highly recommend.

Nice cabin for a short get away !

  • 5 of 5

This is a great cabin if you are looking to get away from the city. We go on a short weekend getaways very often, and I had to say this cabin was one of the nicest one we have been to. It was very comfortable for 4 people since it has two bedrooms with queen beds, however if you are bringing more people, they will have to sleep in the living area on the twin bed/mattress. Overall well equipped, nice layout, big screened in porch, charcoal barbecue, as well as fire pit. Nicely situated, however it would be even nicer if it was a little deeper in the woods and not so close to the road, it would have more privacy. Generally clean and well maintained, except for the bathroom where some repairs are needed, specially under the shower. It would really help the overall experience if the shower/bathtub were replaced and new tiles, new facet installed etc. Also, they are running on the well water, so it smells a little bit and it is pretty yellow instead of clear. We did not feel comfortable to boil that water for drinking, and only used bottled water to make coffee, tea, and for all the cooking. Make sure you bring lots of it, as we run out very quickly and had to go get more form the city (which is about 15 min drive from there). Not a big deal for us, but I think it was worth mentioning so people could come prepared for their stay. Despite those few minor issues, it is a very nice place for relaxing and I would book it again if we decide to stay in this are some time in the future.

Quiet, secluded, relaxing, and beautiful

Just an amazing log cabin in the woods. Definitely better than any hotel room even the high-end hotels. For about the same price as even a generic brand hotel. Will definitely go there again.

Other Activities:

Top Thing to do in City:

* Visit the historic courthouse in the center of Inverness.

* Attend a Farmers Market.

* Take a wild ride on Wild Bill's Air Boat Tours.

* Take your boat out on the Withlacoochee.

* Stroll their antique shops.

Top Thing to do in Budget:

* Relax inside infront of the fireplace.

* Birdwatching.

* Visit one of the many parks.

* Board games with the family.

* Fishing.

Top Thing to do in Family:

* Airboat Tours.

* Disney.

* Horseback riding.

* Golfing.

* Fishing.

The cabin is centrally located, many day trips are possible.

Disney is about 1 hour away to the east, Ford Island Gulf Beach is

45 minutes west and very secluded. Wild Bill's Airboat Tours is

right nearby and a great restaurant, Fisherman's Cove.

The historic courthouse located in the heart of Inverness is actually a museum and there are many shops and restaurants located nearby. There are farmers markets on the weekends and different festivals and fairs depending on the time of year.

There is a wonderful store, Olde Inverness Antiques located in the heart of Inverness, right near the picturesque courthouse. It is the site of many an antique fair and is worth special mention since we always find something special when we visit.

You might not guess that spelunking would be possible here in Central Florida, but it is! The small system located just south of Lecanto is called the Dames Caves. They are some of the oldest caves in Florida formed long ago when this region was under sealevel. They are integral to our aquifer system but these caves wont be around forever; sediment washed in from rainstorms has been slowing filling the caves.

Please note that the Rustic Comfort Log Cabin and Talisman Riverhouse are extremely rustic and best suited for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. We do not recommend them to high maintenance lady folk or metro males who might better prefer the soft edges of a Holiday Inn. The Saltwater Springs Retreat, however is better suited to those city slickers who desire more creature comforts and modern amenities.
