Looking for a unique Hawaiian vacation experience? Look no further! Our lovely Villa overlooking Hanalei Bay has all the casual comfort and privacy of a stand alone home. Set adjacent to a tropical forest our Villa features expansive views of the lush local mountains and beautiful Hanalei Bay. The design of the Villa is light and open with cathedral ceilings throughout the upper level. Both floors have covered lanais that give the visitor the serene sense of being high up in a treehouse. Our tropical songbirds often will join you should you choose to dine alfresco out on the upper lanai. The three bedrooms on the lower level comfortably sleep five adults. Upstairs there is a modern, fully equipped kitchen and dining area. The living room has cable TV, DVD, stereo, and wireless internet service. All rooms have ceiling fans for your comfort. A reserved parking space is also provided.

The Villa is walking distance to three beaches and the fine dining of the luxurious St. Regis Resort. From the upper lanai you can view the scenic fifth green of the 27 hole Makai Golf course. The world famous Prince Golf Club is a short drive away. We have tennis nearby as well. At the entrance to the Princeville community, one and a half miles from the Villa, there is a full service shopping center with a large grocery store, specialty shops, many restaurants, banks, gas station, and Post Office. In fact the Villa is centrally located on Kauai's North Shore to view all the attractions, such as: Napali Coast, Kalalau trail, the town of Hanalei, world famous Tunnels beach, the Kilauea Lighthouse and bird sanctuary, and so on.

Kauai is the stuff of which dreams are made, the very definition of tropical paradise- lush and green, slow and easy. If you are looking for a private, tropical retreat in a lush Hawaiian setting our Villa will not disappoint.

Location, Location, Location. This home was perfect for us during our North Shore Kauai visit.

  • 5 of 5

This North Shore home is located just outside the entry gates of the St Regis Hotel and most of it's amenities are right at your fingertips including dining if high end dining is on your agenda. A walk down the path to the beach avails you to a beautiful family beach for swimming, snorkeling, or just laying in the Kauai sun. The home is outfitted with 4 nice Tommy Bahama beach chairs and an umbrella which we put to good use.

We did not golf but it is very convenient to a beautiful course located less than a half mile away.

It is also located conveniently for exploring the entire North Shore region. The quaint village of Hanalei is just a short drive for shopping and more reasonable but excellent dining choices.

We chased sunsets each night, driving to Ke'e Beach (where the sidewalk ends) for the most spectacular but the St. Regis has a very nice sunset celebration each night that is also beautiful and just a short walk from the house.

Our family also had a helicopter ride on it's agenda and we found Sunshine Helicopter tours from the Princeville Airport to be close and convenient and up to the high end of the safety spectrum.

We had read reviews about the cost of groceries and so purchased our staples in Lihue before driving out. I would NEVER do that again! The grocery store in the Princeville complex just outside the driveway to the St. Regis complex has EVERYTHING and is a combination of basic groceries and specialty groceries. It has an extensive deli, great meat and fish choices if you cooking in, and a very nice selection of local fruit and vegetables if you don't have time to search the local fruit stands and farmers markets. On top of that, the checkout people were amazingly courteous and friendly locals. On top of that, if you didn't bring you own bags, they provide them at no charge. Try to find that at Walmart.

The home itself was everything we needed. The three bedrooms were comfortable and perfect for us. The master has it's own walk-out patio and bath, the second has large picture views, and the third was perfect for our teenage grandson. Bedrooms 2 and 3 share a bathroom down the hall. All bedrooms are on the base level and are quite private from the upstairs living room and kitchen making the late sleepers or early to bed members of your party quite capable of catching shut eye while the wide awake jakes enjoy their early morning coffee or late nite glass of wine on the lanai.

I would stay here again and again. Loved it!!!!

View Makes It Great

  • 3 of 5

The view from this villa and the location are what makes it so wonderful. We had a very smooth check in and no problem finding everything we needed in the villa. Cal was a great communicator and we wanted for very little. The place was very clean and the linens were spotless despite previous reviews. We stayed over Christmas and made several meals in and didn't need many kitchen utensils. Some of the knives could use sharpening or replacement. I loved the Hawaiian flare of the place and the local art hung around the villa.

The reason I can't rate this villa higher is because of the beds. I had read this complaint in previous reviews and thought I would be fine but they are REALLY hard. Both my husband and I and my mother in law slept very little and had shoulder, hip and back aches most of the trip with fitful sleep. While the host notes that most people prefer a more firm mattress, the beds were the most uncomfortable and hardest mattresses I have ever slept on. The seating on the main level is also fairly uncomfortable to include the couch and the kitchen chairs. Going to bed each night was stressful for us as we knew it would be a restless night. I also agree with previous reviews that a box fan would be nice to create cooler air and drown out some noise from the infamous roosters. The ceiling fan in the master bedroom was wobbly and squeaky. We did reverse the directions on it which helped a little bit.

It was a beautiful villa and amazing location with easy access to two beaches and a quick launching pad to Hanalei but for the reasons listed, I probably wouldn't stay here again.

Great location, great view, great villa

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and our two kids spent nine days in this villa and were very happy. I would like to point out that the description is spot on and nothing came as a surprise. When you get in the house, take a moment to open all the windows and the trades will flow right through. The view from the lanai is exactly what you see in the picture. The location was perfect for us, it is walking distance to two beaches and a quick drive to Hanalei and points north. The kitchen worked well for us, it has everything you need to cook and clean. You can pack lightly and use the laundry. Towels for the beach, as well as chairs, an umbrella, and boogie boards are all set so there is little you need to bring or buy to enjoy the many beaches around you. Ke'e beach is great for sunsets but we found that the beach at the St. Regis has a dead on view of the sunset plus you can have a drink from the beach bar while you are watching it. The walk down to it starts just to the left of the guard booth for the hotel. The other beach, Hideaways, is a more difficult dirt path which is just across the street and to the right of the parking lot. I would suggest if you have people with some mobility issues in your party, send someone ahead to determine if it is a suitable climb down and back up. We did prefer to drive up to Tunnels beach for snorkeling and driving south a bit to Kalihiwai beach for boogie boarding and relaxing. There are some other reviews that talk about the roosters and the St. Regis air-conditioning noise. They have a point, but the rooster issues are everywhere on the island (google Kauai chickens) and the air-conditioning sound wasn't a big deal. In the living room there is a nice list of things to do and places to go. This Villa had everything we needed for a great vacation, I can't imagine staying in a hotel again after staying here. Here are a couple of recommendations, for lunch the fish market behind the Dolphin has amazing Poke. For dinner check out Tahiti Nui, it's older and rustic but they make a great Mai Tai, serve fresh delicious food, and often have live music.

Owner's Response: We agree the path to Hideaways Beach is strictly for the fit and adventurous but what a reward when you get there. Hope you can return to the island someday. Cal

Felt like home.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Cal's villa. The villa is well positioned, right across the street from the trail to Hideaways Beach and steps from the entrance to the St. Regis. Hanalei is an easy 10-minute drive. The villa is tucked away from the road which eliminates road noise. Even though you are close to other villas, we were never disturbed by the neighbors. However, the chickens are another story. They are really stupid and cock-a-doodle from approximately 4am-9pm, so bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper! As other reviews have mentioned, the mattresses are quite firm.

The kitchen was well stocked and large. The villa was very clean. It felt like home! We made good use of the beach chairs and the cooler. There were even some snorkel fins that my husband was able to use.

Guests should be prepared for stairs. You need to take a flight of stairs down from the parking lot to the lower entrance of the villa, and another flight up if you want to enter through the "front door." The view off of the lanai is breathtaking. We often caught views of double rainbows over the mountains while drinking our morning coffee. We had four adults staying in the condo and never felt too crowded.

Being used to a/c and sleeping in colder conditions, we were a little concerned about the lack thereof in the villa, but the trade winds kept it pretty temperate, especially upstairs in the kitchen and living area. We slept fine, but people that tend to run warm will be warm. A couple extra box fans would be a nice addition for the bedrooms.

We made great memories in Kauai. I would definitely stay in this condo again and strongly recommend that you stay there, too!

Owner's Response: Mahalo Erin: Glad to hear you had a good time on our island. The chickens are an island wide nuisance and we await the day that they adjust their alarm clocks to a more reasonable schedule! Hope to see you again on our island. Cal

Clean, well appointed and located

  • 4 of 5

This condo checks the boxes for a simple convenient place to spend your vacation.

We found it to be basically exactly as described, it was very clean and in good condition. The location is convenient for immediate access to Hideaways and Hanalei Bay, we are surfers and enjoyed being able to walk to two spots from the house. Though the walk down to the St Regis beach is a lot of stairs! The view from the Lanai is also lovely.

We cooked a lot and found we had what was needed in the kitchen (though as a minor note to Cal: the peeler desperately needs to be replaced and another good chefs knife would be great). Many of the basic condiments were available in the kitchen.

We had an issue with the key when we arrived and Cal was responsive and got the problem fixed immediately.

The one criticism I might have is that the place is a bit sterile feeling, but that is true for much of Princeville!

Overall it made for a good vacation.
