I desire to stay at your place in the near future.
We had a great time.
This home is a 4 bedroom. The bonus room is really a third floor sitting area with no door ....
I was not please with the layout. We needed 6 bedrooms but this property is a true 4 bedroom home. The elevator opens in 2 of the converted bedrooms. My wife and I had to sleep in the open area or bonus room located next to the stairs. Absolutely no privacy! The rental was very affordable and clean but I wish we were aware of the doorless and open sitting area/bonus room with (again) no door. The pier is outright scary (500+ ft) with no type of handrail. We wanted to take the family out to crab but most of the family was afraid to walk the pier. Again, the property was very nice, clean, affordable and nicely located from downtown Charleston but I feel it was listed very incorrectly. The bonus room bed should have been a pullout couch and it shouldn't have been listed as a bedroom because it is definitely not a bedroom. I normally don't participate in reviews but I was definitely upset about this property listing and scary pier.
I am sorry that you did not like the layout of the house. The description of the house on the website states that it is a 5 bedroom , 3 1/2 bath house and an open bonus room. Which it is indeed. There are two bedrooms on the main floor. One of which is the master bedroom with a king size bed and it’s own private bathroom. It has a door to the living room and a door to a screened in porch. The other bedroom is a small bedroom with a door opening to the kitchen. It has a full size bed and a connecting half bath. There is an exterior door to the wrap around porch. The elevator also opens up into this bedroom. The third floor has three bedrooms and two full baths. Each bedroom has a queen size bed. There is also an open bonus room. With no doors. It has a TV and a full size bed. (Eventually I want to have two futons instead of the bed) The dock is 709 ft long and is 4 ft wide and has no handrails as per the request of a neighbor and DNR permit “as to not distract from the natural view across the marsh.” However some neighbors were allowed to have handrails. It depends on when you get your permit and what it states. There are photos of each bedroom and the dock included on the website. I hope this clarifies the layout for future renters. Feel free to contact me for further details as needed.
My family enjoyed our stay at the Stono River House. It was spacious, clean, and nicely supplied with linens, towels, and needed kitchen items. Loved the screened in porch, pond, and pier. The elevator came in handy for loading and unloading our possessions. My grandchildren loved watching the turtles in the pond and for crabs on the pier.
The only obstacle we encountered was the gate code was not correct. The first night we had to drive down to open the gate for a latecomer. But not a problem after talking to the helpful neighbor Jim. Oh and my husband did spray a couple of wasp nests on the front porch, but easily done.
Overall a very nice stay. Thank you
Hidden gem private getaway yet close to downtown!
This home is a hidden gem! The ability to be out in nature while only being about 30 minutes from downtown was great! The house was furnished with everything we would need for 4 adults and 8 kids having a reunion with family from PA and Australia. We enjoyed the fireworks on July 4th from our own private dock and just enjoyed the overall ambiance of this home! The owner was very attentive answering questions in a timely manner as well. We would highly recommend this home!
SPACIOUS, PRIVATE DREAM HOUSE
Dream of a lazy summer day on the Carolina coast, and soon a vision of the Stono River House may surface. It is the perfect place for a family gathering. And, with nine senior citizens in our group, having the elevator was a much appreciated bonus. Also, having three full baths and one half bath was a convenient feature.
The words that may best describe this property are "spacious and private." There is plenty of room outside and plenty of room inside. The property is at the end of quiet road that is gated at night. The outside space is expansive and attractive with a pond in back and a lawn sloping to river in front. Deer and turtles may be seen at the back pond. And, the pier in front ends at a gazebo, another bonus for fishing on sunny days. For being on the pier at night, one should have a flashlight. For us, being near the water was a special pleasure. But, if small children are in your party, close supervision will be required given the proximity of house to deep waters
Inside the living room is a great place to gather. And, there is room on the wrap-around porch for all to be together or to find private spaces. Plus, a part of the porch, the part connected by doors to main-floor master bedroom, is screened. The large kitchen has two sinks which makes it easy for several people to help with cooking at the same time. Bedrooms are of a generous size, and they provide calm spaces for personal retreats.
Although I had seen the photos, I did not know what the reality would be. But, I could not have wished for more. The furnishings were comfortable. Parking was ample. Every thing that was to be in house was there including the all-important washer, dryer, dishwasher and AC. All appliances functioned as they should. The house was clean. And, the security deposit was refunded in two weeks as provided.
Because we were cooking in the mornings and in the evenings for nine people, we anticipated refrigerator space would be limited. So, we brought two large coolers for cold drinks. I could get ice every morning at a nearby gas station. Keeping the drinks in coolers on porch and out of the frig worked well, leaving ample space in frig for food.
If you need a large, spacious, private, comfortable coastal property for a gathering, this is a perfect choice.
