the house was great, VRBO sucks

  • 5 of 5

I had a great time at this house. I wish I could contact the owner directly and get VRBO out from between us. I hate this app.

Great Location, Poor Home

  • 1 of 5

I will start by saying that the location is AMAZING, and I wish that the home would have been on par. Short walk to a great beach and right on the lake where my husband was able to launch his small pontoon. There was a lot of neat wild life that the kids enjoyed viewing and plenty of room for them to run and ride their bikes. Great wifi connection.

Unfortunately we found the home rather unpleasant. After letting the owner know, he was gracious enough to offer a partial refund If we left early, but everything was booked up and down the coast an hour each way and so we ended up having to stay.

The owner was quick to confirm our booking and take the money and said he would follow up with an email with more information. We never got that email. We struggled to find the house and even stopped to ask neighbors. It was hidden away and difficult to find without more info. It took us an hour. When we got there the house was locked and we didn't know how to get in. We were unaware of the hide a key. All that info was probably in the unreceived email. It took us several phone calls to reach the owner and get the info to get inside the house. He said he would send that email...we still never got it.

The house is dingy and smells musty. It seemed surface clean, but that was hard to tell. I'm actually quite surprised that it is habitable as the hill behind it is clearly pushing the house over. Honestly, I think a good rain and some sliding mud would take the house out. The floor is INSANELY uneven and rolling all over. There are boards in the ceiling separating and boards on the floor coming up, though they have them covered with rugs. The rolling floor prevents the doors from opening all the way (anyone of some substantial size would not fit through) and made for uneven sleeping surfaces. The bed was small and the pull out couch bed was torn and had old cereal in it, which means the fitted sheet had not been cleaned since its last use. The bathroom was dinky and had zero counter space. The shower was a small metal insert that was severely rusted and jagged to the point that I did not feel comfortable with my kids using it. All the hot and cold water knobs were opposite and we discovered this after our son scalded his hands. The hot tub had a few inches of water in it, was super dirty, and unusable. There were lots of spiders. All the linens and towels smelled musty.

While we loved the area and the beach, we would never rent this home again.

Great place for a mini honeymoon

  • 4 of 5

Would have given 5 stars had the hot tub been operational. This cute, very private cabin is right on the lake, and a short walk from the beach. The house itself is very old, but tastefully appointed. I would suggest they replace the shower, though. The hard water stains make it look dirty, even though it’s quite clean. There’s a great little fire pit between the house and the lake, and private access to the lake that’s perfect for kayaks and canoes. Would definitely return once the hot tub is working again.

Quiet, cozy and a little funky

  • 4 of 5

We had an amazingly peaceful time at the Little House at Paradise Point. Mike was very gracious when we had to move our reservation dates due to work. When we arrived there were fresh pick blueberries in the fridge...what a treat! The cottage is a little funky, the kitchen is very we stocked for cooking, and the location is extremely peaceful. The beach access as easy and no one was on most of the beach (other than a coupe of people on the south end). We enjoyed walking on the beach, searching for agates, watching the wildlife and just spending a few days relaxing. The only reason I didn't give five stars was because the shower being metal is rather rusty but it is clean. Also, the hot tub was not working so we were a little disappointed by that. Other than those two minor things I completely recommend the Little House at Paradise Point for a relaxing vacation.

Tranquil Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We spent an amazing two weeks at Little House at Paradise Point. The location is fantastic. Mornings were spent kayaking on Lake Garrison and afternoons relaxing on the beach. It was a short walk to the beach, less than 5 minutes on a private trail. The trail is steep at the end as you are climbing a sand dune, but this was not an issue for us. We felt like we were at a private beach. Hours were spent just gazing at the ocean. We prefer the quaintness of Port Orford over Gold Beach and Bandon, but it is a short drive to these towns. We took the charter boat out of Gold Beach three times and caught the limit each time. My husband also enjoyed playing gold at Cedar Bend and Bandon Crossings. The house met all of our needs. I especially appreciated how clean it was when we arrived. The bed was so comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked. The Tetris Table was addicting. We hope to come back next year!

Awesome location and a quaint well supplied cottage

  • 4 of 5

We loved the location close to the beach and lake. Lots of wildlife including deer and ospreys fishing in the lake. The hot tub was cozy for my wife and I and the location was very private. We would stay again any time.
