Eventhough the house itself is a very nice size for a family and it is on a lake/pond, Richmond Pond is owned by an association of property owners. If you are renting, you can absolutely not use your own kayak or canoe on this body of water. The owner of this house does not offer boats on site to use. You can not bring a rented kayak or boat on this body of water. You have to drive over to Copake Lake to use your own kayak or canoe. This was not clearly stated in the description. So be aware before you rent. The house and property is very much in need of some outside and inside work, plus more thorough cleaning. Broken steps down to lake, broken stones up to house, overgrown landscaping with poison ivy climbing the house, food in freezer was thawed and we cleaned it and threw food out, cupboards dirty with mostly expired food and spices, back screen was ripped and we taped it so that is wasn't ripped more, propane grill does not work and needs to be thrown out, available charcoal grill works. We will not rent again in summer due to kayak/canoe rule. The Association puts this rule in place to discourage renters.
I wish this renter had let me know about these issues upon her arrival, but she did not. I would have sent repair and cleaning people right away. But she did not say anything until she left. Her main issue was not being able to use her own kayak, which she knew before her arrival. The lake association has environmental rules. I have since replaced the BBQ grill, advised the cleaning person, repaired the steps and screen door. I want guests to be comfortable and I’m a phone call away and have lots of services available. There were damages from previous renter
Nice large house for a family
Good size house for a family.
House rental 10/10/17-10/15/17
Overall we enjoyed the property. The only thing we noticed is it was not very clean. The bathroom shower has mold around it and there was a lot of dust and spider webs around the house.
My husband and I stayed here for a week in September. The view was beautiful but we did have a few issues. First the cable didn't work and the owner did handle the situation fairly quickly. The only full bath needs to be remodeled and there was black mold in the shower. The landscaping in the front of the house was very over grown and the bushes were blocking the entry to the front door. The refrigerator was dirty upon arrival but I cleaned it. I believe she pays for a cleaning lady between each guest but the house wasn't clean downstairs and the owner should have a talk with the cleaning person. But I cleaned what wasn't clean and we had a wonderful time. The area is rural and sleepy but lots to do a short drive away. With a little maintenance I would have given this home and location 5 stars.
Love the area of Copake!
We really enjoyed staying near Copake Lake. We kayaked on the lake, went to Hudson for the day then visited the Norman Rockwell Museum in the Berkshires. Such a fun weekend! Thanks for letting us stay at your place!
Quiet and Spacious
A great place to rest and refresh. A nice open kitchen, dining and living space. Comfy beds. Do nothing at all, relax by the lake or visit one of the many quaint nearby towns or farms. Don't forget the soft serve ice cream at Dad's Diner preceded by the freshest burgers and chicken wings you ever want to eat! Best of all was the unpretentiousness of the Duchess County Berkshires. Can't wait until next year! Thank you, Sandy.
There are many activities in the area. Local high school has an
indoor swimming pool which is open to residents and non-residents,
tennis courts and track. Also there are many restaurants in the area
and you will be about 20 mins away from the town of Hudson and Great
