Best Location and Value on Owasco Lake $750-$950 per week

Updated: Oct 12, 2016
Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, 4 Sleeps

SPECIAL: $50 off available weeks in July, Aug., & Sept.

Now booking spring, summer, and fall of 2016 by week, month or season.

This lovey air conditioned lakefront cottage is on the east (preferred) side of Owasco Lake. It

offers a panoramic view of the lake and fantastic sunsets. The

Cottage has been completely remodeled and has a covered deck

overlooking the water, a living room/dining room/kitchen area (all

one open room), 2 bedrooms, and a modern bathroom with shower. The

master bedroom has a queen bed and there is a trundle bed (two twins)

in the second bedroom.

This property is built into a hillside and has three levels: The

ground level consists of a boathouse, a paver brick patio, 90+ feet

of beachfront, and large dock. Above the boathouse, on the second

level, is the rental cottage. This cottage has a side entry door

leading up to the parking area, a front door which opens onto the

covered wraparound porch, and a third door off the kitchen leading

down to the beach. (The cottage seems somewhat like a houseboat due

to its location just above the water's edge.) Above the rental

cottage, on the third level, is a large deck and in back of this

deck, a second cottage which is summer home to a Florida 'Snow Bird.'

The two residences are completely separate and are not visible to

each other due to the design of the decks and roof lines. (The

cottages actually have more privacy than dwellings with close

neighbors on each side. The neighboring cottage on the south side

sits up on a hill by the roadway out of sight, and the cottage to the

north sits back from the lake and is only occupied on weekends.) The

area is surrounded by woods waiting to be explored and there is a

private roadway behind the cottages, perfect for taking daily walks,

or hiking to nearby Indian Cove which is home to ball fields, swing

sets, and large play area.

This cottage is an ideal location for couples who dream of spending

their summer months on the water but don't want the expense and

upkeep involved in owning a second home.

Please email owner at WinhomeEMS@aol.com or phone owner at (772) 398-2393 for additional information regarding rental cottage and possible special pricing.

Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 10 days here and the owner (Elaine) could not have been a more congenial

and thoughtful hostess. The grounds are landscaped beautifully and the lake view from the deck was fantastic. The rental cottage is actually below the owner’s extended deck. We only saw her when we initiated it and actually would not have minded seeing her more often, as she is an extremely nice person (as was her sister whom we met later). She was very concerned that we had everything we needed. For instance, we had a problem operating an older can opener (found out later it was because we did not know how to use it) and within minutes she came downstairs with a new one. We had visitors and she offered to move her car so their cars could park in her driveway.

The cottage was very comfortable, however it is best suited for two adults as you do have to pass through the 2nd bedroom to get to the bathroom. It might be good for one or two very small children who would not be bothered by this .

The furnishings are ok, the queen bed was comfortable (even though we are used to a king) and overall, it was very clean. Yes, you can get a few bugs but this is expected in this type of environment-it was not because the place was not clean. We took down a spider web by one of the doors just before going to bed and it was back when I got up the next morning.

With the addition of a few improvements, this would be an outstanding vacation rental which could double in price what she is now charging.

Thank you Elaine for a nice memory!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay in my rental cottage on beautiful Owasco Lake and was saddened when you had to leave. You folks are the type of tenants every landlord dreams of having! I'm so happy to know that you had an enjoyable and memorable time here and hope to see you again in the future. Sincerely, Elaine

Disappointed

  • 1 of 5

The property itself was described inaccurately as it is really the downstairs of the owner's home, not a separate dwelling space. The door to this camp leads into the smaller bedroom and the bathroom is also located off the smaller bedroom, causing a lot of traffic through that area. If you need the restroom in the night you have to walk through a sleeping person's bedroom.

It is clean and orderly with the exception of the many artificial plants that are full of dust and spider webs. When we pulled out the trundle bed there was some kind of plant debris in the mattress and we chose not to use it. Also a note of caution- that bed frame is metal and the mattress is too small so some bumps and bruises were had.

The most disappointing part was that on the holiday weekend the owner chose to have her family visit bringing no fewer than 6 cars and leaving us nowhere to park and they overtook the beach front and even came onto the deck that was "ours." This continued for the weekend and we even experienced sitting on the deck and watching cigarette butts being thrown down over her balcony in front of us! I have no issues with her wanting to use her place for the holiday with her family, but would recommend she simply not rent it if that is her plan.

Owner's Response: I am so very sorry to read that someone was disappointed and will attempt to address all the concerns mentioned in the above review. The property was not described inaccurately and definitely is not the downstairs of the owner's home. The rental cottage is completely separate from the main dwelling. The only way to enter the rental cottage is to go outside, go around to the side of the main cottage, and down steps/sidewalk...as shown in pictures as well as explained in the description. Yes, the side entry door (the door closest to the parking area) leads to the second bedroom and, yes, the bathroom is at the back of the rental which is very handy when coming up from the beach. However, the location of the bathroom necessitates going through the second bedroom to enter. Generally, this does not present a problem since the cottage is primarily rented to couples and, if there is someone occupying the second bedroom, it's usually a child. I'm sorry there was something on the bottom trundle bed when it was rolled it out. My cleaning lady does a fantastic job getting the cottage prepared for incoming guests and obviously didn't pull the bed out since it hadn't been used as yet this season. The frame of the trundle bed is most definitely metal and is the smallest unit I could find to sleep two persons in a rather small room. (Please see picture of white bedroom on this web site.) Again, I wish to point out that there are usually children occupying that room. I do apologize for any spider webs on the plants. Living on the lake in such close proximity to the water seems to equate to dealing with spider webs. They can be knocked down one day and reappear the next. We "lake people" just deal with it because we love being on the water. We have a very large black top parking area, one space is allotted for renters, and that one space is ALWAYS left open. I am truly troubled by this negative review as I thought I had done everything in my power to make certain these renters enjoyed their lake experience. The couple (from Florida) who are currently in the rental cottage are loving it. They stop in to ask if I need anything when they are going to town and even brought up a bowl of fresh strawberries for me this evening. Sadly, it seems some people are difficult to please.

Great location and value!

  • 5 of 5

I would love to keep this our little secret, but just had to say we had such a relaxing, peaceful and really enjoyable stay! It was clean, the attention to detail in the amenities provided was greatly appreciated, and the effort put into maintaining it really showed. Very comfortable for a family of four. The owner, Elaine, is a very gracious host! The beautiful scenery and sunsets were stunning. Certainly a spot we plan on returning to!

Great cottage and wonderful owner.

  • 5 of 5

Just stayed at this cottage for a week and it was beautiful. We flew in from California and did not have to worry about bringing anything but our clothes it was fully equipped. Elaine the owner was very nice as well as her son and grandson. Had my family out both days on the weekend and it was a lot of fun between fishing, kayaking, paddle boating to just spending family time. We have already told her we ARE COMING BACK!!!!! We would recommend this to anyone that wants a place that you can call home away from home do your own cooking, no hotel worries and the view is breathtaking. Just relax on the back deck, take a swim, take the paddle boat out, catch a fish or lay on the coach and snuggle with your honey love the life and the atmosphere of Owasco Lake.

small quiet cottage

  • 4 of 5

the cottage is very small but quiet. The lake is beautiful and quiet especially during the week.

But the cottage is not well suited for small kids. There is no sound proof at all, and there is no outdoor space for children to play other than the lake in front of the cottage. You'd have to drive to the parks at the two ends of the lake for them to run around.
