The easterly facing porch was a wonderful place to watch the sunrise which set a serene tone for the day. Our stay was during a full moon which made for lovely evenings. The owner could not have been more helpful and gracious.
Peace of Heaven in the Mountains review
I just spent last weekend here during what will probably be the worst snow storm of 2016 with a friend and my dog. 2 months ago another friend moved to Beech Mountain and thus the reason for our stay. The place is clean, beautiful, nicely appointed and has everything you need for your stay. The place has electric heat and is sufficient for all but the coldest days of the year. So we really appreciated the fireplace to help take the chill out of the air when the high for the day was 10 degrees & 30 mph gusts of wind. We didn't cook much but a peek in the kitchen cabinets & drawers seems to have all the basics and then some covered. I also found the beds warm and very comfortable.
It is a walk up the hill to get to the house when the driveway is covered with snow. But I found some snow shovels in the basement to clear a path to the road.
We loved our stay at the cabin... Great location, close to all the amenities and fun to just walk around the neighborhood. Driveway was a bit steep, but part of the adventure! The print out we received before our trip was great information for things to do! Thanks for letting us stay!!
Last minute get-away was perfect!
Ken was a perfect host for this last minute (and when I say last minute - it was like 4 hours before arrival) trip to Beech Mountain. The log cabin is great in a perfect location next to the slopes and everything that Beech Mountain has to offer. I was able to bring my pup who enjoyed the place as well. You will love the serene feel of the home and spacious living/dining room. We kept the windows open the entire time during June weather - it was AMAZING! A few pointers...READ the directions on the entry, it's steep, but my Hybrid made it up on the first try and my friends and I had a great laugh over it. Second, bring a fan if you like it uber cold. Buy groceries before you get on the mountain...Freds is really awesome, but it's expensive. The rest is to your memories. We made a few, cheered some champagne on the front deck and really enjoyed the thunderstorms with all the windows open. If you want a piece of heaven for yourself, this is the place to be. Cheers! Nice cozy couple getaway
We drove to NC with our puppy for a nice getaway and to snowboard. The location was great as it was minutes away from the slopes. If you go when it is snowing, I strongly suggest having a 4WD vehicle with good tires, and/or invest in tire snowchains regardless. My jeep had no problems, but there were a few times I considered throwing on the chains. Getting up the driveway in the show will be difficult if you do not have 4WD or chains. My jeep had no problems, but I also have mud/snow tires. We saw some front-wheel-drive cars sliding up the mountain during the snowstorm without chains.
The listing was very accurate and the directions given were spot on. The GPS on my phone was not correct when trying to find the property, so definitely use the directions given. There is a lot of room in the home. We did not use the upstairs, but it looked cozy. If you go in the winter, I strongly suggest bringing extra blankets and firewood if you have room. We brought a LOT of firewood, and still ended up buying more on our 4 night stay. I am not sure the heater there actually works because it was ZERO degrees some days/nights.
The property was clean and it seemed well maintained. The owners were accommodating and had no complaints. There are a lot of dishes and cooking items to use. Plenty of bath towels and bathroom basics (just bring your toothbrush/paste and shampoo). If you need to wash clothes, bring your detergent. Thankfully, we also found a space heater in the closet, which we used the entire trip. Besides the lack of heat, I think the only thing needed was some thread lock on the fireplace tools or just a new set in general. They kept unscrewing.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a nice getaway. The slope is right around the corner. Fred's store in town is close and has lots of supplies (groceries, snow gear, firewood, and more). We went to the Brick Oven Pizzeria, which was perfect after a cold night of snowboarding in a blizzard (very delicious). We did not really eat anywhere else as we brought food to cook. Buying groceries at Fred's is very high priced. I did not see a gas station either. People were really nice there too.
All-in-all, I will book here again. We had a great time.
My family truly enjoyed our stay at "Peace of Heaven." The living room was comfortable and inviting, the decor was tasteful. We spent each night by the fireplace, which kept the upstairs loft bedroom very toasty. We saw deer right outside the house the first night we were there. The yard was fun for my daughter and me to collect wildflowers and pretty autumn leaves. The owners had a nice package prepared with favorite restaurants, places to visit and directions - this was a nice touch. The town of Banner Elk had a lot to offer and we very much enjoyed the Wooly Worm Festival! The house was an easy drive to Grandfather Mountain and Linville Falls (both were totally fun and beautiful). We'll certainly stay at "Peace of Heaven" again next time we head for a mountain vacation.
