Over the years we have stayed here several times and each time it is equally enjoyable. The location on the river is just perfect. Over the years we have canoed down the river, hiked to the Cascades (not to be missed, a world class waterfall in the most beautiful park setting), taken part in the local town festivals and driven through the mountain roads just to enjoy the winding roads, foliage, wine tastings and local farms. The cottage itself is well maintained and very clean. The porch overlooking the New River is about as perfect spot as you can ask for. It has an overhang so that even if it rains you can sit in the rocking chairs and enjoy the magnificent river view. The owner provides plenty of wood for the outdoor fire pit and the indoor gas fireplace is a perfect touch too!
Our group of friends convenes annually at the Little Sycamore Cottage in the summer, and it is always a wonderful time. The property is in a secluded neighborhood and the large front porch, complete with rocking chairs and cushioned recliners, offers the perfect spot from which to enjoy the splendor of the New. Whether you seek some of local attractions in the area (hiking, canoeing/kayaking, fishing), or the simple pleasure of sharing food and drink with friends and family, this cottage is a great spot to stay.
The Little Sycamore is perfect for outdoor adventurers or families who want a relaxing getaway! We have visited three times in the last five years, and have never been disappointed. The last time we went was in October, where we experienced colorful fall foliage, but have also gone in late spring and middle of summer. The house is modest, with 3 comfortable queen size beds and 2 bathrooms with showers. The front porch extends along the entire front of the house, and offers a wonderful place to sit back, relax, and take in the views of the river. There is also a small concrete pad with a bench right next to the river for those that want a closer view. A beautiful sun room sits between the main house and the master bedroom suite. We enjoyed being able to grill outside, play games on the grassy lawn, and sit by the outside fire pit. Tons of nearby hikes, amazing disc golf coarse at Mountain Lake Lodge, and local outfitters provide endless adventure opportunities. It's about a 15-20 minute drive to the different boat launches (depending on the distance you want to go) where you can put in for kayaking, tubing, etc. Keep in mind you need to bring your own boats and gear, or rent from the local outfitter. If you are looking for a remote getaway with an incredible view of the New River then this is the place for you!
This place is great. The best is just sitting on the long front porch and watching the water. It has a nice big grassy front yard that leads to the river and is a great place for a family with kids to stay and enjoy the river.
