The 1843 Greek Revival House on Cayuga Lake

Overview

Property Details

Updated: Jul 22, 2016
House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps 10

Come enjoy the Finger Lakes year round while staying at 'The 1843 House'. It is a single family, 4 bedroom, home located on the west side of Cayuga Lake, just minutes from Seneca Falls (13 miles) and Ithaca (25 miles). It is close to the wineries on both Cayuga and Seneca Lakes. Built in 1843, it has old world charm with all the modern conveniences. You can find many antiques and period furniture as you move from room to room.

The house is completely furnished with 2 bedrooms downstairs and 2 bedrooms upstairs. There are 2 full bathrooms, one on each floor, a first floor laundry room with washer and dryer, a newly remodeled, eat-in fully equipped kitchen with new appliances including a dishwasher, a large formal dining room and living room. The living room has a sleeper sofa which can be used if additional sleeping accommodations are needed. A door in one of the downstairs bedrooms opens to stone patio that is completely fenced in. There is plenty of parking, a red barn, a huge yard with several mature trees to shade you from the sun, 3 stone patios, picnic table and chairs, and front porch.

Across the road and 50 steps down, you will find 218 feet of lakefront with a shale beach, a new dock with a ladder, a row boat with oars for your use, and a large deck with picnic table and chairs overlooking the water. Enjoy a campfire on the beach or in the fire pit on the side of the house.

There is no telephone land line but cell phone reception is excellent. Smoking is prohibited inside the house. Conservative use of the septic system, water and electricity is appreciated. Although the house is not child-proof, children are welcome.

Occupancy is limited to 10 maximum on the property.

This house will breathe a big sign of relief after we leave. Kids of all ages had a great time. Only way it could have been better is if mother nature had cooperated a little more.

Fantastic charm of an old house!

  • 5 of 5

Listing was exactly what we expected. For being such an old house, we thought it was in fantastic shape. Loved the charm of the old home. We would stay again if we were up for a wine weekend again.

Charming home and accommodating owners.

  • 5 of 5

Myself, finance and my two girls with their families stayed here for a week. There were 6 adults, 2 children and 1 infant. The house was so large that we were never tripping over each other. The upstairs was perfect for my daughter, son-in-law and their three children. They had their own space with a bathroom. They brought a gate to close off the top of the stairs and moved a dresser to close off the railing. Remember this is an old house so it is not built to today's codes. We had some trouble with the internet when we first arrived and the owner said she would be right over. I told her not to rush but she came within half hour anyway. Very accommodating. The house is decorated with pictures and knick knacks which makes it very homey. The kitchen is well stocked. The beach is steps down as described in the listing, but when you get there you have a private deck, two docks and crystal clear water. The road is pretty busy but the house is set so far back that I never worried about the 2 and 4 year olds. Of course an adult was out with them, but they had plenty of room to run. The wineries in the area are great. One within walking distance. Many state parks in the area. I would definitely recommend this property.

Relax in the shade of the maple

  • 4 of 5

Even on the most humid days the shade of the trees and a dip into the lake pleased the whole family. The vineyard 2 driveways down was a real treat and on Fridays had live music. The owner Jim was helpful and friendly. The house was well appointed but could use a thorough cleaning. We love the Finger Lakes.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It was nice to hear that the trees and lake pleased your family. It is nice to be so close to the wineries especially when they have music on the lawn on Fridays. I am sorry you felt the house needed a thorough cleaning. I have a house cleaner that cleaned the house right before you arrived. I will try to make sure she does a better job before the next people arrive.

I spent the month of April in this completely charming old farmhouse. It's elderly but has all modern updates for easy living. I loved watching the beautiful lake with all its many variations. I loved the quiet, dark nights too.

All my many visitors loved it as well.

Relaxing get away

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at this house. It was filled with antiques that created the ambience of an older home, yet it had all the modern conveniences. The house was clean and the kitchen had all the "tools" to prepare our meals. Since there are several wineries nearby, we enjoyed spending a few hours wine-tasting on Saturday. The view of the lake and autumn colors from the front porch were spectacular. We would definitely recommend this lake house to others and hope to return in the future.

Relaxing and enjoyable vacation house

  • 5 of 5

The lake house visit was relaxing and we enjoyed boating on the lake and visiting the sights in the area including the Corning Glass Company and Watkins Glenn. The house had all the amenities we needed and was decorated with period furnishing from the 1800s. The property was well maintained and the owners were friendly and stopped by for a visit. We enjoyed sitting on the lawn in the evening by the fire pit roasting marshmellows and listening to live music from the winery next door. I would highly recommend a vacation at this property to others. We are a family of 2 adults and children ages 16 to 31. A fun time was enjoyed by all
