Please do not call after 9 PM.
I receive many phone messages I cannot understand. Please speak slowly and clearly, especially when saying your phone number. I ALWAYS return calls and emails, even if the house is unavailable. If you don’t hear from me, it is because your e-mail address or phone message was not usable. E-mailed inquiries will be responded to first – I cannot retrieve phone messages until evening – sometimes too late to return calls.
We post the depth of the water at the end of our dock and our photos show the view and terrain from the house. When shopping for lakefront rentals, ALWAYS ASK about water depth, view and terrain because photos are quite often deceiving.
Note: Clarks HIll Lake / Lake Thurmond (the name depends on if you are standing in GA or SC) is an Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) built and managed lake. MOST lakes in Georgia and SC are. In such cases, ALL homes border ACE land that borders the lake. None are technically "lakefront", despite advertising. The difference is the depth of the land between the home and the lake. It varies greatly around the lake, therefore some "lakefront" homes do not even have a view of the water. This home is in an older community and only has a narrow strip of land between the homes and the water. The terrain is a gentle slope, therefore, easily walked.
The combination of view, easy access and good water depth is rare among lake rentals.
We are an older couple who purchased this home as our retirement dream home... if we ever reach the point when we can actually retire! We have found it necessary to rent this home to vacationers to help offset the expense of purchase and maintenance.
We are trusting our renters to care for the home during their stay - monitor children and other guests to ensure food and other chemicals do not damage carpet or furnishings. Most have honored this - some have not.
We have found fingernail polish on our leather chairs, koolaid and play-doh in the carpet, really large steam marks on a wooden table, and broken lamps. Renters have rearranged the kitchen cupboards; rearranged the furniture; stolen from us; and hidden things they've broken... leaving us to wonder when it happened and what subsequent renters thought when/if they found it. We've found old food and dirty paper plates, beer bottles and even a trolling motor in one of our former grills (different renters all three times). Again, we wondered when it happened and what subsequent renters thought... but then we decided they didn't find it or they would have told us.
Who does such things? Thankfully they are the minority - most of our renters are just plain terrific. We hope you like our home. We do.
Jen Krause purchased this house in 2006
We searched for a property on deep water in a decent neighborhood. Lincoln County has a low crime rate. People wave when you drive by. Neighbors are friendly and welcoming. Lake Thurmond/Clarks Hill Lake (depends on which state you are standing in when you say the name) is a clean lake and is well maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers. After 2 long days of looking at properties, we found this one. It felt like we were home.
We enjoyed our stay very much. It is a large home with plenty of room for big groups. It has a nice kitchen with all the amenities for cooking and eating that you may need. Bring your own grill maybe if you like cooking outdoors, but as far as utensils, cookware, dinnerware, lots of table seating- all is included. The dock for our 20 foot boat was adaquate-about 14 feet deep at the time we visited, of course as always check the water levels of the lake before going. Nice shaded back yard while gently sloping toward the lake. Quite and friendly neighborhood. Community boat ramp easy to use, only about two homes over. The owners very organized and friendly. Thanks again for our great vacation-can't wait to visit again. Thank you Jen and Family.

Please leave evening telephone information if you leave a message because I cannot receive or make calls during business hours. ALL telephone messages should be spoken slowly and clearly. I quite often cannot understand spoken telephone numbers.
