Why David Lombardi, Architect/Builder, Mission Beach chose Mission Beach

I wanted a beach house in San Diego. Who doesn't? It was just a termite ridden shack when I bought it but I built it into something very nice. Come and enjoy!

Excellent! At a great price!

This place was perfect. Very reasonable and the location so close to the beach is great. The owner, David, was very friendly and gave us a lot of useful local info. The bed was comfy. The kitchen though compact did the job and the night we cooked on the grill - yum! I highly recommend it. You'll just love it!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

I was in town on business. My company would have paid for any hotel. Instead this time I thought to try to be at the beach, - it's San Diego after all. I couldn't be happier with my decision to stay at David's place.

The very short walk to the beach was just as promised as was everything else. I was able to make coffee and breakfast before heading out in the morning. The bed was comfortable. I even cooked a steak on the grill. The owner, David, gave me a lot of information about the local restaurants, which was very accurate.

I will stay here again when I return. It's a great deal and a great place!

It's exactly as described: The perfect alternative to a hotel room with a full kitchen just about right on the beach. The owner, David, was very nice and kind. I would highly recommend this place!

Great little house that opens to the patio for extra living place. A short walk to the beach on a nice and quiet street. Dave is a great host, we will definitely be back.

Very nice town, but house could use some work

  • 3 of 5

The house is situated in a really cool area, really close to the beach. When we arrived, however, the sheets and pillow cases were damp and had a musty smell to them. The bed is quite uncomfortable and really hurt my wife's back after 2 nights of sleeping on it (she's only 125lbs). The bathroom door did not close properly also and there was no cabinet space in the kitchen to store food or supplies. The other furniture was acceptable. If you plan on cooking, there is a limited supply of cookware available, so you may want to contact the owner ahead of time and ask about what all he has. There is no air conditioning that I was told about--only fans and windows. This did pose a bit of a problem at night when trying to sleep. The owner is a very pleasant gentleman and was kind enough to offer his contact information to us during our stay, if anything were to go wrong. If anyone is staying in the second floor, it sounds like the roof is going to cave in at any given moment, which can be distracting.

Overall, I would go back to the same area--it was beautiful. I might try a mainstream hotel next time, just because we found that for two people, the savings were not what we expected versus staying in a hotel (saving on food and such).

Owner's Response: I take great pride in the condition of my place. I have been offering a quality place to stay at very reasonable rates at the beach for 12 years. I'm sure you will enjoy yourself here. Very many have. Please know the Saunders were engaged in loud disputes while here. They have unjustly taken their relationship discontent out on my place. I will answer each complaint: I washed and dried the linens & made the bed myself the morning of your arrival. They were in the dryer for 60 minutes & were not damp. It was quite humid when you arrived. (I can't control that). The mattress is 14 months old and is the same mattress I sleep on. It cost me $787.64. It is of very high quality. I have never had another complaint. You were here during humid weather & it's a fir door. It swelled with the moisture. If you had mentioned it, I would have fixed it. The kitchen photos clearly show the entirety of the kitchenette. Although it has all the components of a full kitchen it is compact & is not meant for long stays. You were only here for four days. What was the storage need? This is not a gourmet kitchen. It is for basic needs only. If another piece of equipment is needed all you have to do is ask. There is no AC and it says so in the listing. The weather in San Diego rarely requires air conditioning this near the ocean. There is a ceiling fan in every room. I live very quietly alone in the house upstairs. I am an architect/builder. I built this house single-handed. Yes. I spent a full year physically building this house myself. I poured the foundation, framed it, installed the windows, roofing, insulation, wiring, drywall, plumbing, built the cabinets, etc.. The floor between is extraordinarily strong w/ up-sized TJI's, 3/4" plywood subfloor, 3/4" solid oak flooring, & an area rug w/ pad. There is 4" of solid foam insulation with 10" fiberglass batt insulation, 2 layers of sound board & 5/8" drywall. It is very quiet & strong. Please come! You will enjoy!
