You can walk or bike to town everyday or night for lunch and dinner in Beaufort's historic downtown where there is no shortage of restaurants and ice cream parlors. This is a kid-friendly town where streets are all flat and perfect for bicycling.

About Stan Breakell

We fell in love with this town while dropping our oldest son off at Camp Seagull in 2001.

We have brought our 4 boys here since then and they have all grown up loving Beaufort as well. 5 of us got certified for scuba here at Discovery Dive and we tend to make every vacation a diving opportunity. We hope to retire here one day-if we can ever get our boys out of college! We know you will fall in love with Beaufort too!

Stan Breakell purchased this house in 2001

Why Stan Breakell chose Beaufort

Carrot Island is right across the creek and you can watch the ponies and dolphins from almost any window Private.Dock in backyard that does not even require you to cross the street!. 1 level living. Large windows and open floor plan bring the views all the way into the house. Deep water dock for serious boaters and sailors.

What makes this house unique

You can see the water from the front door all the way through the house. When you walk up the spiral staircase to the second floor deck you know you are living large!

There is nothing like being right on the water

  • 5 of 5

Great views inside and outside the house, easy dock access to the water, great kayaking and even wild horses just across the way. If this sounds great to you, then this is the place to stay.

Ideal for families who love water and nature

  • 5 of 5

This is our second vacation in this beautiful home in the most perfect location...walking distance from many great restaurants and activities on the Beaufort waterfront. We love fishing, kayaking, and paddle boarding with dockside convenience. The roof deck offers a panoramic view of birds, boats, horses (and pirates) with the gorgeous background of marsh, ocean, sunrise, and sunset. We love forward to our next opportunity to stay here.

Wonderful Rental!

  • 5 of 5

My family rented this house for the first time this summer. We rent a house every year, but this is the first time we've stayed in Beaufort. The house was beautiful, all on one level, and well-stocked. The layout gives everybody some privacy and the common areas are comfortable with a great view of the water. The rooftop deck is a great addition. We watched fireworks from 5 different locations on the 4th! We loved sitting and watching the boats, and spotted the horses and dolphins on many occasions. Proximity to Beaufort was very convenient. Had a wonderful vacation. Thanks, Steve!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind words. We really believe the one level arrangement is best for busy boaters. It sure makes it easy to stage and manage all the boating, swimming and fishing gear. Of course, having the dock 10 steps from your door can't be beat! We continue to make improvements so any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks again for staying with us!

Thrilled to be back again

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at the Breakells’ beautiful house, and if we don’t end up purchasing our own place, we will definitely continue to be repeat renters at this cottage.

The décor of the house is tasteful and soothing, and one of our favorite aspects is that you truly feel you are in a home rather than a rental unit that’s identical to 20 others. The layout affords bedrooms that are spread out, each having its own bathroom. A television room and a sunroom offer room to spread out for residents. There is a huge dining table as well as a smaller cafe table in the sunroom. No need to bring hairdryers, kitchen utensils or plates or glasses, extra blankets—it’s all there. Just remember your sheets and towels! We were also impressed by the personal library of books on boating, fishing, and pleasure novels.

For those unfamiliar with Beaufort and the barrier islands, I can’t stress enough how ideal this spot is. The house is directly on Taylor Creek with no road in between the house and dock as you tend to find along a good deal of Front Street. Every day we watched the horses on Carrot Island, as well as dolphins some mornings. There is an unsurpassed view of the ocean and Shackleford Banks from the rooftop deck, but also--especially when it’s windy and the waves are breaking—from areas on the back porch and sunroom as you look through the dunes of Carrot Island. We had two days of rain, but we relished that time in the house reading and enjoying the view.

There is a carport with tandem parking for two vehicles, as well as additional parking on the front lawn. Charcoal grill, wonderful back porch with rockers surrounded by raspberry hydrangeas, friendly neighbors when we saw them. Please be advised that the current of Taylor Creek is quite strong, so I’d not recommend swimming for children; however, it is excellent for kayaking! Stan is communicative and efficient with responding to any questions you might have.

Many thanks again to the Breakells!

Owner's Response: Thanks Christina. I think you captured the essense of why we fell in love with the house in the first place perfectly. As a boater and a sailor I could not resist having the dock 10 steps from my back door.
