Bethany ~ Bay View Retreat ~ Indian Summer/"Shoulder Season" Specials!

Bedrooms 5
Property type house

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, 10 Sleeps

On the WATER with FABULOUS VIEWS, fantastic sunsets, direct access to beautiful nature preserve/wetlands and Assowoman Bay and quick access to beach/ocean.

PLEASE NOTE : 2 night minimum stay off season (at $750 -- extra night for only $150), minimum 1 week in Summer. Peak Summer weeks are $2750. Due to change of family plans we still have a few June summer weeks open at special prices. And late Sept. and Oct. are lovely at the beach -- still warm, no crowds & lower prices.

We are in the small community of Bay View Park at the north end of the undeveloped Fenwick Island Delaware State Park Beach. We are on the Bay side of Rt. 1. Bay View Park is 1/4 mile south of York Beach/South Bethany. Very close to the charming 'quiet resorts' of Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island and 15-20 minute drive to more "action" in Rehoboth or Ocean City.

On the edge of a vast Nature Preserve this home has 180 degree views ~ a very special Nature Lover's retreat.

Short walk (1/2 mile) to the beach or quick drive with parking along Route 1 access road -- only for Bay View Park visitors.

This is a remodeled & newly solar powered older 5 bedroom home -- a 'beach house' not a new MacMansion. It's the perfect place for a relaxed family vacation, quiet retreat, or romantic getaway. Two 'master' bedrooms (king & queen) with dramatic bay views. A 'guest room' (double bed) also with views. Twin Bed room and kids 'bunk' room with double/futon lower and single upper. Strict limit of 10 people, including children; limit of 3 cars. We do not rent to student beach week groups.

Large open living, dining, kitchen area with great views. Well stocked kitchen. Big screened in porch and 2 large decks (upper and lower levels).

About June Taylor Wolcott

Rob, originally from Toledo, OH, is an economist by background and spent a career at the US EPA working on numerous health and environmental issues -- such as getting lead out of gasoline and reducing water pollution runoff from agricultural lands. June, a Californian who grew up at Lake Tahoe, is an environmental reporter/consultant who most recently has focused on climate change. They live at Bethany and part-year in Silver Spring, MD.

June Taylor Wolcott purchased this house in 1997

Why June Taylor Wolcott chose Bethany Beach

We'd rented this house for many years when the owners (Rob's mentor, Allen Ferguson and his wife Audrey) decided to sell it. The Ferguson's were early purchasers in the little waterfront community of Bay View Park and got the lot with the BEST VIEW. The serenity of watching sunset from the deck is something we wanted to keep -- and share with others.

What makes this house unique

Being able to have 2 vacations in one -- the bay side with bird watching and kayaking and the beach with body surfing and fun in the sand -- make this a unique vacation spot.

The community of Bay View Park offers a quiet retreat even in the busy summer season.

Many people like our varied collection of artworks from around the world. (And many by the original owner Audrey Ferguson.)

What a beautiful location and great vacation spot, It has it all - beautiful views, great beach access, close to Fenwick and Bethany, lots of room, and well supplied with entertainment - books, games, puzzles. Oh, did I mention the great bird watching? Saw eagles daily, herons, egrets, ibis, ducks, geese, cormorants in the marsh. Will definitely come back!

Fabulous spot for nature lovers and bird watchers.

  • 5 of 5

We saw dozens of American and Snowy Egrets in the ponds just off the west side of the house. They would come together in the morning -- an amazing site. And "Academy Award Winning Sunsets". Great kayaking. The ocean water was a bit rough due to storms Jose and Maria, but we saw dolphins close in off the coast several days at the beach.

Wildlife Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This house is truly a retreat for those who rent it. Situated on a corner canal lot that over looks the Assawoman bay state wildlife area. We sat on the second story deck watching the wild life for hours everyday we were there. It's close to everywhere in the area so it was very convenient for us to get to everything this area offers.

Walking the neighborhood with our dog was very relaxing as well so we really appreciated that she could come with us.

Wonderful views of the water from so many rooms

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful relaxing trip and lovely nightly sunset views. We brought our elderly parents along and the living/bedrooms/baths on same level made the visit much safer and convenient for them. There were nightlights in all the bathrooms and halls which was a nice touch.

The sun deck furniture was comfortable and there was enough seating for a crowd. When it got hot we moved into the big screened in porch where we all appreciated the shade and breezes. We ate most of our meals at the big table on the porch. Even with the occasional shower we could still be outside. We enjoyed having the Jetski tied up at the dock for easy access to the lovely bay. We also took advantage of the kayaks and canoe for exploring the canals.

It was a bit of a hike to the beach but we discovered beach wheelchairs available for free on the boardwalk at Bethany Beach. First-come first-serve but ideal for elderly to access the beach via the ramp there.

We definitely plan to go back next year.

Bay View Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Bay View Retreat was just as described in the write up. It offered spectacular views, great birding, and easy access to shopping, dining, and a range of activities. The home is waterfront--with access for canoes and kayaks. The house itself is comfortable and homey, with an open layout. It was tidy and attractively decorated. Just about everything we needed was available on-site for cooking and entertainment. The owners left notes to help us find needed items--and we found those notes to be helpful. In addition, the owners were very accessible prior to and during the visit to answer any questions that we might have. The decks and screened porch were also great. We loved everything about this property and are looking forward to visiting there again. We would definitely recommend this property to friends.
