A Race Fan's Paradise!!! Beach House with views from every room in the house!!!

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 8 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, 8-10 Sleeps

The Reed Beach House is located in Wilbur by the Sea, a small, quiet, residential beach town located 2 ½ miles north of Historical Ponce Inlet and less than 5 miles south of the famous boardwalk in the heart of Daytona Beach!

A common question I get from potential guests is: 'Is the house ON the beach? I mean, right ON the beach?' Thankfully, I'm able to come back with an enthusiastic 'YES! Smack dab on top of the sand dunes! Any closer and we'd be jumping off the deck and into the ocean during high tides!'

One of the very unique features of our location is that we're on a condo-free section of beach designated as a “turtle nesting area”. What that translates to for the beach-goer is: no motorized vehicles, no dogs, fewer tourists, privacy, serenity, and security. And who knows, you could be one of the lucky few to witness a mother sea turtle laboring across the sand to lay her eggs or hatch lings blindly making their way back down to the water to swim out to sea!

The Reed House has all the amenities available at your fingertips to provide you with the perfect worry free vacation.

The main house has central heat and a/c, 3 furnished bedrooms complete with ceiling fans, queen sized/double beds, adequate closet space and large windows with spectacular beach/ocean views. The 4th bedroom/bath is attached with a separate entrance. It is located on the southwest side of the main house and has no ocean view. We have WiFi throughout.

The large open kitchen is equipped with nearly every conceivable appliance (both large and small). The Florida room/den includes a flat screen HDTV w/ cable, DVD player and a blue tooth speaker. The dining room with attached breakfast bar seats up to 12 in total and offers ocean views from all vantage points.Off the east entrance is our screened enclosure providing more than enough patio furniture for lounging and /or dining in the refreshing ocean breezes while taking in the panoramic view of beach and ocean below.

Located directly off the screened room is our patio/deck and barbecue area. This is my favorite spot at the end of a day. Relax right above the sand dunes by easing back into one of the comfortable chaise lounges, peer through the sea oats that dot the landscape and enjoy the miles and miles of white sandy beach! After dinner head down our private beach walkway, boat drink in hand, and enjoy a barefoot walk on the soft white sand. Truly restful vacations are so rare in our busy lives, you gotta grab them when you can! * THE REED BEACH HOUSE IS SPLIT LEVEL WITH STAIRS TO FRONT DOOR, BACK DOOR AND DOWN TO BEACH. UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS NO HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBILITY.

About Denise Reed

My husband Monty and I live in Gainesville, Fl with our two teenage daughters. Monty is in the mining industry and I am a nurse. We purchased this beach house while living abroad so that we would have a place to call home during our frequent trips back to the U.S to visit friends and family. Since moving back to the U.S in 2010, we've been lucky enough to be able to escape to our Wilbur by the Sea home and recharge our batteries as often as possible. It is our hope that we will someday retire there, but for now, we enjoy being able to share our little slice of paradise with others and help them to make unforgettable memories.

Denise Reed purchased this house in 1999

Why Denise Reed chose Florida

It's old Florida! The way it used to be back before all the resort hotels, sky scraping condos, beach traffic and rowdy crowds. Our home has a quaint cottage feel. Our stretch of beach is quiet, safe and peaceful. So few things in life remain so simple. There's little doubt you're ON the beach the moment you enter the front door-our NO STRESS zone!!.

Has everything needed for a very pleasant vacation no matter what the weather.

  • 5 of 5

When you pull in to the driveway it is a small blue house with an upper deck over looking the road. When you walk inside the rest of the world fades away. The house is very clean with fresh flowers on the family table. The back porch is screened in overlooking the ocean. We so amazing sunrises from the porch with our morning coffee and early risers. Just steps down to the beach. Nice being so close with small kids and beach toys. The beach is quiet as the crowd and noise is north past the pier. Room to play. Great walking beach. No cars on the beach just bikes. The kitchen has everything needed to prepare all your meals and serve inside or out. There are three bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs that you enter from the outside next to the driveway. We heard very little noise in the downstairs room from the rest of the family upstairs. All the rooms have very comfortable beds. The bathrooms are small but there are three of them. I can't say enough about the owner who answered all my questions before arrival and even after we arrived. And for the record we did not see any sharks... just as Denise had predicted. We saw dolphins, stingrays, and all sorts of birds. I would recommend the Reed house and would stay here again.

Peaceful Paradise

  • 5 of 5

I can't speak highly enough of our first experience renting this vacation home. You cannot get any better views of the ocean. The area was beautiful and peaceful. The home had everything we needed. My only hesitation in giving a resounding 5-star review is the fact that I may draw more attention to this beach house and thereby have a more difficult time scheduling another stay. The house was perfect for my young family of 5. We could walk down to the beach anytime. There are basically 3 dining rooms (outdoor, 3-season, and indoor) for any and all occasions. The grill was well-maintained and easy to use.

Beautiful Oceanfront Experience

  • 5 of 5

We just returned home from our 4 night stay at this wonderful beachfront home. Although we stayed in February, we were treated with very good weather that helped us to enjoy all that this home and area has to offer.

Location - The home is located on a wonderful lot right on the ocean which quite surprisingly has a nice grassy area and plenty of outside deck area to eat, relax, play, or enjoy the morning sunrises. During one of the more glassy ocean days we spotted dolphins in the distance right from the deck. A very short walk down a planked pathway leads you to your own entrance to the beach. We enjoyed finding shells, playing in the sand, and wading in the ocean. The homes to the south lining the beach are interesting to look at from the beach strand and are a nice departure from high rise condos that often line beaches. When we ventured away from the home, we found plenty of fun things to do with an interesting lighthouse (Florida's tallest I believe) about 5 miles away. We also discovered some tasty places to eat a short drive away.

The House - We found this house had everything that we needed right there. All of the usual things that you would expect from a rental home (dishes, glasses, etc) but also nice touches like a coffee maker, washer and dryer, sand toys, games, extra pillows, DVDs, and books. Truthfully though, with the beach so close and cooperative weather, we found little need for DVDs or books. The house features a nice screened in porch that allowed us to enjoy the evenings when the sun went down, and there were several comfortable bedrooms that have a beach cottage feel.

The Rental Experience - All of our experiences in dealing with the owner during the rental experience were positive and she went above and beyond our expectations with a special request we had.

Summary - If you are looking for a great oceanfront experience of sand, shell hunting, swimming, light sight-seeing, and good beach town dining, then consider this home. We noted in the guestbook that many guests come back year after year. Perhaps we will be lucky enough to be one of those families as well.

We checked in to the property on the 13th of February (it was very cool that day) and immediately had to open all windows and doors because the smell of fabrize was so strong it made us sick. After about an hour or so we could start closing the windows and doors because the smell became less but it was not gone. The first night there I couldn't sleep because the sheets smelled so bad. I had to get up the next morning and wash them in order to get rid of the smell. It was like they washed them in the strongest smelling detergent and used the strongest smelling fabric sheets when drying them. They really should think of guests with sensitivities to such strong fragrence. That night for dinner we were getting ready to set out the dishes and my daughter noticed that there was a film on all of the plates. It was like when the dishes were washed they never went through a rinse cycle and there was a soap residue all over the dishes, glasses and the silverware. We had to put all the dishes, glasses and silverware in the dishwasher and run it again. I had to hand wash all the pots before using them also because there was food left on them.

All that being said the view was breathtaking and the beds were pretty comfortable. We were close to everything The weather wasn't the best because there was a cold snap during our week there but we did have a few days on the beach and everything we could want was there for our use.

Owner's Response: Dear Past guest, After reading your review, both my husband and I were dumbfounded at how or why a guest would wait 10 months after their stay to submit a review of such a negative nature. Regardless of your reasons though, a 2 star review is serious and it saddens me to know that you left my home obviously very displeased with your stay. My guests are very important to me and making sure that everyone is comfortable, safe, and has everything they need to have a great stay at the beach, is my top priority. The only way for me to provide this level of attention is for guests to contact me during their stay when they feel the Reed house is not providing them with the highest amenity standards. That being said, I have taken your criticisms seriously and have spoken with my laundry service about their possible overuse of fabric softener in the linens. Thankfully it appears yours was an isolated incident, and they've fielded no other customer reports of fabric softer abuse by their workers. They did assure me though, that in the future, they can use a fragrance-free softener for sensitive noses such as yours. In regards to your report of a "film" on flatware and tableware, thanks for the head's up! It never hurts to give the contents of the kitchen cabinets a more thorough inspection. My two long term housekeepers are nearly OCD (thankfully) about the level of cleanliness in the kitchen, but one can never be sure of dishes that have been washed and put away by previous guests. I hope that your next vacation rental, wherever it may be, will be a happier one! Denise

Excellent for Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic family vacation. By far, the most appealing aspect of this property is the fantastic location! Beautiful view right on the beach! It's very convenient to restaurants and grocery stores. The owners were some of the best we've worked with. We rode bicycles both on the beach and on the road- one of our favorite activities. We took our kids to the little park at the lighthouse, and they loved it! Another aspect that sets this house apart is that so much is provided- chairs, beach towels, toys, sheets and even bath items!! Excellent family vacation!

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our vacation at the Reed House. Having a house on the non-drive section of the beach was amazing because it felt like our own private beach! We spent most of the time outside on the patio or the screened-in Florida room. There are Adirondack chairs you can take down to the beach and sit where the waves lap over your feet.

The mattresses were good quality and we all slept very well each night. The kitchen is well-stocked for cooking. We grilled and ate at home with the family every night and there are 2 large grocery stores conveniently right down the street.

This was our first time staying in Port Orange as we usually go to New Smyrna. In some ways it was a better fit for us because it is less crowded and quieter. The beach is perfect for long strolls in the morning and evening. As a side activity our family rented paddle boards and kayaks (also close nearby) and paddled out to one of the islands on the river.

Denise is delightful to work with and made our VRBO experience very easy. Our family had a great time here and we would be happy to go back again another year!
