About Denise Reed
My husband Monty and I live in Gainesville, Fl with our two teenage daughters. Monty is in the mining industry and I am a nurse. We purchased this beach house while living abroad so that we would have a place to call home during our frequent trips back to the U.S to visit friends and family. Since moving back to the U.S in 2010, we've been lucky enough to be able to escape to our Wilbur by the Sea home and recharge our batteries as often as possible. It is our hope that we will someday retire there, but for now, we enjoy being able to share our little slice of paradise with others and help them to make unforgettable memories.
Denise Reed purchased this House in 1999
Why Denise Reed chose Wilbur-By-The-Sea
It's old Florida! The way it used to be back before all the resort hotels, sky scraping condos, beach traffic and rowdy crowds. Our home has a quaint cottage feel. Our stretch of beach is quiet, safe and peaceful. So few things in life remain so simple. There's little doubt you're ON the beach the moment you enter the front door-our NO STRESS zone!!.
What makes this House unique
Privacy, Privacy, Privacy! No cars, no crowds, no hotels, no condos!! Fantastic views! We now have a sunrise coffee and evening cocktail deck (with seating) down over the dunes and just above our sea wall! I don't believe there's a section of public beach anywhere that offers more privacy than our little beach town!

We really enjoyed our stay and we thought the location was great. Denise was wonderful to deal with and the communication was great. The house was spotless and really fit our needs. We had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. A lot of thoughtful touches. We enjoyed being close enough to walk to some restaurants and loved that we felt like we had the beach to ourselves. Would definitely visit this place again. Thank you Denise!!
Nice, Safe location
We rented this home for 14days over Christmas break. Location of this rental is directly on the beach and a lovely outdoor setting on the ocean side. Not mentioned in the listing it’s also on a very busy scenic road. At night time you can hear the traffic all night long. The screened in porch was very nice as we spent a lot of time out there. Denise welcomed us with a basket of fruit, cinnamon bread, cookies and coffee. All the amenities provided were much appreciated such as laundry soap, dish soap, paper towels, spices, etc. Compared to other VRBO rentals you can definitely tell Denise goes out of her way to make sure you have everything you need for your stay. Unfortunately we had many days of rain during our stay which meant we were inside the house a lot. With that being said and on the improvements side, the air conditioner/heating system stopped working on 2 separate days. Which meant we had to have a service call on both of those days to get it running. Secondly, the shower was leaking all over the floor and continued to leak after maintenance came. The futon in the living room is not comfortable but we spent little time in front of the TV so that was not a big deal. We would of loved to have a king size bed in the master bedroom as the one in there is small and uncomfortable. Overall this home is nice but needs a little TLC .
Thanks for your input and allowing me to address your complaints.
First of all, in this narrower section of the Florida peninsula, there's no way to get far away from Atlantic Ave, and at the same time have a house right on the beach, unless we moved east, and then we'd have a houseboat!! Thankfully in Wilbur by the Sea, A1A is only 2 lanes and it dead ends a short distance south at the Ponce Inlet, so not a major thorough fare.
A/C unit was replaced with a new and bigger one this week. We knew it was coming, sorry it began to bite the dust during your stay! A quick fix allowed you to have AC, but who knew you'd need AC one day, then heat two days later! I didn't realize at the time that the quick fix only allowed for one or the other! Thankfully the weather heated up again the next day.
Shower: thanks for the "head's" up! Nothing worse than a water leak that no one mentions and you end up with a soggy sub floor two months later! Thankfully no water damage, and nothing a bead of caulking couldn't fix!
As for the futons and bed, sorry they were not to your liking. After renting my beach house for the last 20 yrs, one thing I've found constant is there's no way to have the perfect mattress. The thicker loft comforter slides off the frame, and the thinner loft, well, it's thin! The master bedroom mattress is queen, medium firmness, and with comfort foam. Some people love it, and others don't mention it. I hoped I had found a happy medium with both. As for the size, I too would love a king bed! Unfortunately, the long and narrow room dimension just doesn't lend itself to a bigger bed without the bruised shins.
Jen, I know you all had rather gloomy, rainy weather nearly every day of your 2 week stay. And I am sorry you had the added aggravation of a few technical issues that, although easily resolved, likely added to the discomfort of being somewhat home bound, especially with an energetic toddler!
It is my hope that in the end, your little family created some positive, lasting, memories of your beach vacation at the Reed house. We'd love to have you back some day!
All the best,
The Little Blue House
This was our 2nd time at the Little Blue House. We love it! The location is perfect! The house is adorable and comfortable! Our favorite part is the screened in porch and patio! Even on a rainy day you still get to enjoy the ocean view! We have made so many wonderful memories at the Little Blue House! Can’t wait to go back!
Very nice beach house!
Beach house was great. 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths with enough room for the 5 of us to have space. The ground floor has a garage and one bedroom with attached full bath. Upstairs is the rest of the house with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms along with the kitchen, dining room and small living room. On the back of the house toward the ocean is a screened in porch and outdoor patio. The views were excellent. There are steps down to the beach and an outdoor shower. Over all, we were thrilled with the house and we all had a great time.
Great oceanfront beach house
This is a fun place with a nice kitchen and great screened in porch. The deck is great and the beach is quiet. We rode bikes in the morning and relaxed on the deck in the afternoon. The house is well appointed and owner is very responsive.
Several miniature golf courses on the beach within a 10 minute drive. Daytona Beach is a mere 5 miles north: water park, Ocean Walk (with bars, restaurants, shops, boardwalk with rides, movie theatre), the Ocean Center Convention Centert, Main St.
