Heaven in the Tropics

If you can't have a fantastic time in this setting, we can't imagine where you would have it. Having a resort wrapped around a condo and all the services that a resort offers as options is a lot of value added. And we love being right on the beach.

Love the Location

First off, love Playa del Carmen. Max and Laurie are lucky to have a wonderful beachfront property. The condo is roomy, has character and reminds me of a European flat. It is convenient to the poolside and the oceanfront. It could use a little bit of TLC. We had the slider off the living room fixed as you could not get it to slide without putting your entire weight into it. The love seat outside on the terrace (off the living room) was broken. My husband tried to fix it, however it looks to have been broken for some time and swelled. The ottoman in the master bedroom was also broken. Additionally there was a leak in the hallway bathroom sink that ran down the hallway all the way to the living area, and when the air conditioner was on in the large double bedroom it leaked water onto the floor in front of the closet. We do understand, this is Mexico and perhaps the plumbing is not what we are use to in the States.

We do like to clean up after ourselves. There was no cleaning products (ie toilet bowl cleaner, spray cleaner/wipes) with the exception of dish soap in the condo, and only one dish towel. Also the microwave is up 7 feet high..yikes!!

Please view this as constructive thoughts. You have a wonderful condo, with the incredible ocean and an uncrowded section of beachfront.

The staff was friendly and we enjoyed the daily beachfront/poolside activities. We had no problem getting a poolside or oceanfront lounge chair each day. We used the beachfront restaurant often for lunch. The walk to town via the cobble road was about about 20 minutes, but less if you walked down the beach. We did utilize taxi's to and from town. We had incredible meals in town (several that Max suggested) So much to choose from!

We would stay here again. I hope you appreciate the feedback. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Owner's Response: We appreciate the compliments about the condo-- it's roominess, it's position on the beach, the staff, and the activities available. As to the issues named, we are at the condo now and everything is in good working order. Both pieces of furniture that unfortunately broke during this stay have been repaired and are completely intact and useable. There are no leaks of any kind and we would not expect any renter to have to endure plumbing issues. As in many homes, the microwave is above the stove. We just measured it and it's base is exactly 5 1/2 feet from the floor. In 10 years of renting, we have never supplied dish towels nor in depth cleaning products and we have never received feedback about their absence. These were good folks. We respect our renters and we care about the quality of their rental experience. We were highly responsive to these specific issues in real time and always have people on site who can help.

A Classic on the Beach

Fisherman’s is a small scale resort right on the beach, a timeless classic with everything you need - pool, hot tub, swim-up bar, beachside restaurant and, most importantly, a gorgeous white sand beach with easy entry and smooth sand bottom. This unit is as described and has everything you need. Owner is responsive with good communication. Recommend a car for trips into town and shopping for groceries. Great base for a relaxing beach vacation.

Wonderful Stay

Given the state and craziness of my life, escaping to a place of peace is essential. And I was not let down by my experience here. The Kitchen has been professionally updated since the photos provided (A pleasant surprise). It is nicer than a neighbors that we visited. Sitting on the balcony was a great way to start and end the day. The location is very private in the gated community of Playa Car, while still amazingly close to all the activity of of Playa del Carmen. It's the best of both worlds. The beach was wonderful, and grounds were as expected. I love the road driving in to the resort. The staff always smiles, and seems playful. They offer free usage of kayaks, sail boats etc. with life preservers and have organized events all week long. Learn to cook sushi, learn to make tropical drinks, volleyball, poker, yoga, and more, and all at no charge. We took the owners advice on restaurants in town, and had some very nice meals. They also provided information on great places to buy food including organics, and we were able to some very nice meals ourselves as well. It has been a great experience all around. We will be back next year.

A wonderful view and a magical place

My mornings started on the patio where I sipped coffee and looked out over the gorgeous blue-green water of the Gulf and the white sand beach. The second floor patio is nestled among the palm trees, which offers a sense of privacy from the rest of the pool-side resort. When the sun pushed me back inside, the updated kitchen awaited with counter space for our prep cooks, new appliances, and the right cookware for making full meals when we wanted too. We were quite comfortable with five adults sleeping in the three bedrooms and with three bathrooms we were able to get ready for our next adventure in the morning without getting in each others' way. The air conditioning forced me under a blanket the first night, but it was easily adjustable. The staff were very responsive and friendly and the owners let me know that they were available if anything went wrong. But fortunately, the week has been flawless and enriching. Thank you for providing the opportunity to relax and renew.

Great location, but resort and unit have seen better days

Things can, sometimes do, happen when you travel & renting a private home can be a risky proposition. We've rented many homes and I always spend weeks researching. We’ve often been pleasantly surprised to enter a lovely, well-equipped, vacation home. We had high hopes for this condo as many of the units in Fishermen’s have been beautifully remodeled, but this one is dated and needs repair and a facelift.

Upon move-in, the master suite A/C was broken and water leaking from the ceiling of the 2nd bedroom created a puddle in front of the closet. Our girls couldn’t use the closet and had to walk around wet towels to the bathroom; we adapted to repairmen working in our girls’ bedroom for 3 days. Since we had no A/C in the master, we slept with the slider and window wide open. The A/C was fixed on Wed.; that day the girls found water leaking from their toilet requiring another call to maintenance and replacement of a valve. By Thurs., both problems had been resolved, but loud work started on the unit above us at 7 am and continued through Fri. We left Saturday.

On arrival, we were very surprised to find no staples in the kitchen: no salt, pepper, basic spices, oil, paper towels, coffee filters, dish liquid ... NOTHING! We've rented many homes, and there are always staples left by previous renters. We had to buy everything! Max & Juan both suggested that the cleaning person may have taken everything ... maybe, but doesn’t anyone check?

Issues that we made note of: the master slider and window were very hard to open, felt swollen & the outside handle of the slider was hanging by one screw. Living room cushions are worn & faded. King mattress is very old, there are holes in the fabric; past-due for replacement. There really are no views from balconies as the palm trees in the photograph have grown and obscure the view. The pools have many tiles missing from the floor (I got a small cut on my foot). Breakfasts are very good, but we only ate dinner one evening, a buffet, otherwise the menu was small. Avoid a couples massage or pedicure at the “spa.” My husband was on a table way across the room from me (what’s the point?), and my massage was the worst I’ve ever had. Pedicure was done in the woman’s lap, no pedi chair, nails cut too short and she nicked me. I don’t think the spa employees are really trained to do these things.

Max & Juan showed great concern, but our week could have been better. Not the best rental we’ve ever had.

Owner's Response: The renter was a thoughtful, reasonable person, who, unfortunately, ran into what appeared to be "the perfect storm" of issues. As you can tell by other reviews and the frequency with which this unit is rented, this party's experience is by no means representative of the vast majority of experiences. As also described, we were very responsive to those issues as we are to any issues or needs that renters have. The issues cited by the reviewer have either already been repaired (AC, sliding door, handle) or will be within a month (mattress in the master bedroom). As to staples, we have never fielded, even once, a complaint about this before. Normally, most "staples" are present on check-in (as well as other food stuffs) as left by renters.
