Max and Laurie live right on Lake Erie in Cleveland, Ohio. We have six kids with one still at home (10) and 5 who are grown plus 5 grandchildren. Family members of all ages love our Mexico home.

MAX STARK purchased this condo in 2007

Why MAX STARK chose Playa del Carmen

Perfect balance:

- Resort is the perfect size.... Intimate/not huge but offers full service/all amenities.

- Quiet residential neighborhood with 10 minute walk to vibrant downtown

- Extremely safe for families and children and easy to get to

- Mexican people are gracious and genuinely like Americans

What makes this condo unique

Being smack on the Caribbean... being on the beach in literally a minute.

Privacy with world class hotel amenities

Convenient to so many wonderful places

Gated community... safer than our neighborhood in the U.S. (which is quite safe itself!)

Charming, very private, very inviting

  • 5 of 5

Dear Max, I would like to thank you again for a wonderful vacation at your beautiful property in Playa del Carmen. I warmly recommend your property and we are already anticipation our next visit and bringing more family. I prepared a longer review (3 pages in Word) to describe the experience, only a third of it will fit, please forward to anyone interested. Our arrival was in mid-August and we stayed for 11 days. As we entered the gated community of Playacar we knew we were in a very unique place. The transfer shuttle took about 45 minutes from the Cancun International Airport to reach the entry in Playacar. We passed the security barrier and found ourselves driving through a meandering paved street, which exhibits lush vegetation and luxurious villas on all sides. We were surprised to even see an enclosed protected park with Mayan ruins on the way. We walked on this street many days with much pleasure going to the Centro, taking pictures around the ruins, admiring the beauty of the villas with competing styles and laugh at the occasional tsereche -- the local protected wild pet -- crossing the street.

Upon arrival we were received with warm welcomes by the resort staff and all have been very helpful to us throughout the stay. All are very friendly. The resort is as described-- small, very private, very inviting, and very safe. The pool setting is beautiful and overlooking the ocean, and it is not crowded. They have lounge chairs, couches and beds on the beach with umbrellas, frankly more than needed, so plenty to choose from.

The condo is located a few steps away, same building, one floor up. The condo is very roomy and there are many ways in which a family can divide the space, a flexibility that many will find very attractive. Very friendly to families with children and if extra bed is needed there seems to be a pull-out couch, but we did not use it. The balconies provide a blended view of the resort, palm trees, pool and the beach while being out of direct sun light which I liked very much. The bedrooms were clean, beds well made and trust me this is the first and most important aspect that my wife looks at when we arrive in a new place. The closets were well provisioned with additional clean sheets and towels. The bathrooms were clean, marble floor and sinks. For one shower I needed to learn to wait a bit to get the hot water. The kitchen is adequately equipped, but to be fair we did not plan to cook that much during our stay.

Won't recommend

The property is very nice. The unit we rented is very run down, needs painting, furniture dirty, linens thin and dirty looking.

Owner's Response: We are sorry that these renters had this experience. However, we are surprised by it . All of the linens were bought new within the last two years and are washed and bleached after every stay. The entire entire interior of the condo was also painted within the last two years. The kitchen was completely remodeled two years ago. All of the marble floors and marble vanities have been cleaned and polished. We are in the process over the next few months of replacing with custom made pieces all of the living room furniture, which may be the cause of the comment on furniture. We take a lot of pride in our second home and in renters' experience of our home. Our family stays there multiple times a year and we take care of the property for our benefit and our visitors' benefit. We hope potential renters will note the positive reviews of their experience.

Spring Break 2018

  • 3 of 5

Overall a very pleasant stay. Loved the staff as everyone is extremely friendly. Benito and Freddy were great at the bars and Rigoberto exceptional at the beach restaurant! However, drinks were bland and no "brand" alcohol available. There was something for the kids to do every day and my 6 year old took advantage of everything they offered! Angy was great with the activities for kids and adults.

The condo layout was great for our 2-family stay. 3 adults and 5 kids, the bedroom and bath combination was perfect. Loved our morning and evening times on the decks. Lots of closet space. Overall condition of the condo was not great, (just overall wear and tear is rough; mold in baths). Beds were hard. Condo owner took care of our issue right away and is a quick communicator. This was our first time in Mexico, so it's harder for me to compare. Not being an actual member or guest of the resort did limit us some.

Heaven in the Tropics

  • 5 of 5

If you can't have a fantastic time in this setting, we can't imagine where you would have it. Having a resort wrapped around a condo and all the services that a resort offers as options is a lot of value added. And we love being right on the beach.

Love the Location

  • 3 of 5

First off, love Playa del Carmen. Max and Laurie are lucky to have a wonderful beachfront property. The condo is roomy, has character and reminds me of a European flat. It is convenient to the poolside and the oceanfront. It could use a little bit of TLC. We had the slider off the living room fixed as you could not get it to slide without putting your entire weight into it. The love seat outside on the terrace (off the living room) was broken. My husband tried to fix it, however it looks to have been broken for some time and swelled. The ottoman in the master bedroom was also broken. Additionally there was a leak in the hallway bathroom sink that ran down the hallway all the way to the living area, and when the air conditioner was on in the large double bedroom it leaked water onto the floor in front of the closet. We do understand, this is Mexico and perhaps the plumbing is not what we are use to in the States.

We do like to clean up after ourselves. There was no cleaning products (ie toilet bowl cleaner, spray cleaner/wipes) with the exception of dish soap in the condo, and only one dish towel. Also the microwave is up 7 feet high..yikes!!

Please view this as constructive thoughts. You have a wonderful condo, with the incredible ocean and an uncrowded section of beachfront.

The staff was friendly and we enjoyed the daily beachfront/poolside activities. We had no problem getting a poolside or oceanfront lounge chair each day. We used the beachfront restaurant often for lunch. The walk to town via the cobble road was about about 20 minutes, but less if you walked down the beach. We did utilize taxi's to and from town. We had incredible meals in town (several that Max suggested) So much to choose from!

We would stay here again. I hope you appreciate the feedback. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Owner's Response: We appreciate the compliments about the condo-- it's roominess, it's position on the beach, the staff, and the activities available. As to the issues named, we are at the condo now and everything is in good working order. Both pieces of furniture that unfortunately broke during this stay have been repaired and are completely intact and useable. There are no leaks of any kind and we would not expect any renter to have to endure plumbing issues. As in many homes, the microwave is above the stove. We just measured it and it's base is exactly 5 1/2 feet from the floor. In 10 years of renting, we have never supplied dish towels nor in depth cleaning products and we have never received feedback about their absence. These were good folks. We respect our renters and we care about the quality of their rental experience. We were highly responsive to these specific issues in real time and always have people on site who can help.

A Classic on the Beach

  • 4 of 5

Fisherman’s is a small scale resort right on the beach, a timeless classic with everything you need - pool, hot tub, swim-up bar, beachside restaurant and, most importantly, a gorgeous white sand beach with easy entry and smooth sand bottom. This unit is as described and has everything you need. Owner is responsive with good communication. Recommend a car for trips into town and shopping for groceries. Great base for a relaxing beach vacation.
