Pros: Clean, large living room Cons: First day musty smell, Wood stairs and deck need to be replaced.
The pictures of the property are accurate and the location is very nice. There is another review highlighting the noise from the street and it is noticable. The only problem I had was with the pool pump. I guess someone turned it off and I cleaned the pool manaully for three days. I contacted Manny and he suggested I check the fuse boxes in several parts of the house. I couldnt figure out the problem so he called the pool man who came on Friday.
The beach is close by but if you plan to carry any items to the beach with you it is going to be challenging.
We stayed 8 days in mid-April; our first stay on Marco Island. Simply updated, this home is more desirable once you enter the house. The exterior decking is in need of repair. The interior is open, with numerous windows offering a decent view of the canal since the house is situated at a corner lot. The negative aspect of a corner lot is its location adjacent to Barfield Dr., a very busy & noisy Main Street. The location is only a 4 to 6 block walk to the Publix shopping center at the busy intersection of Barfield & San Marco Rd. Only one adult bicycle (2 adult & 2 kids' bikes are provided) had adjustable seat that worked.
The pool and patio are nice, but water was quite chilly in Spring. Bring your own beach towels, as only 3 thread-bare ones were provided. Don't plan on docking a boat at the dock, because the lift evidently hasn't been operable for some time.
The living room is very comfortable and the screened-in porch is nice, but lacking in comfortable seating other than the table & chairs. The heavy sliding doors need maintenance as they are very difficult to open & close. The kitchen is updated as shown in the photograph on the website, clean and functional, but is equipped with bare necessities. There was only a large container of salt ; that's all. Buy your own salt&pepper & everything else. Some coffee & filters were provided. Anyone desiring to prepare meals at the house (restaurants are 10+min. drive and expensive), should not expect much in the way of cookware, serving dishes (I even had to buy an inexpensive salad bow) decent placemats, kitchen towels. etc.
The Master bedroom is quite comfortable, with good mattress & decent linens. There is a huge walk-in closet and nice bathroom. Loved the door leading from the bathroom to the porch & pool area. The Queen bedroom is only large enough for the bed and 2 night stands & a small 3-drawer chest. The third bedroom is somewhat larger. The guest bathroom should have been updated when other areas were remodeled.
We were not expecting such a congested, suburban island. We found only three public access paths to the +7-mile-long beach, each requiring $8 and more for parking (one block from the beach). The high-rise hotels and condo buildings have the beach scene. What a disappointment. Visitors don't even realize there is an ocean or beach.
We own a VRBO vacation rental on Table Rock Lake near Branson, MO, so we know what renters desire in a vacation home.
We were pleasantly surprised with the home. It is so much better than what the pictures depict. House was very clean and had plenty of towels, etc. The master bedroom is huge with a nice walk in closet. Bed is super comfortable. The screened porch off the kitchen is great and we spent all of our time out there, especially for meals. The view down the canal is wonderful and can be seen from the kitchen. The owner, Manny Castro, was very responsive to a couple of problems, one of which was with the heated pool. He even came out to the house from Miami to address the problem. The location is great. Easy drive to get off the island and the Publix grocery store is less than a half mile away. The only drawback, was that the home needs more dinnerware, i.e. coffee mugs, bowls and small plates. Marco Island is a great get-a-way from the cold up north. We brought our bikes and rode all over the island - very biker friendly. Parking can be an issue, especially for three of the public beaches, but worth it.
